Great Manny Speeches Updated 2019

November 18, 2019

One of the great things about Manny were the powerful speeches/monologues. They some up the important pieces of the Manny story in a clear, powerful manner. Here are some of the greatest. The most famous are the first two, I Am a Man and One Thousand Guns, were separate statements of desire and love given by Danny and Michelle. Ray then explains why they should together. Danny gives a speech about forgiveness and the future. Then in the final Michelle speech she describes their journey and commitment to each other, best summing up of their story anywhere.

For each post find a description of the episode, the complete text of the speech (bolded) and a link to watch it. You may find other surrounding episodes in the same post, but watch for the bolding. Manny speeches will be a continuing project because I think there are others worth calling out and some of these deserve to be given a more devoted post so watch for more.

In the November 5, 2018 issue of Soap Opera Digest find photos from the 2018 Daytime Stars and Strikes. Read more about the event. Find photos of Elizabeth Keifer (Blake Thorpe Marler), Jerry verDorn (Ross Marler), Lauren B. Martin (Camille Bennett on As the World Turns), Sonia Satra (Lucy Cooper Spaulding, part of terrific LAM pairing, victim of Marian Crane), Elvera Roussel (Hope Bauer Spaulding #7), Grant Aleksander (Phillip Spaulding #2, adult Phillip), Michael O’Leary (Rick Bauer #5, the adult one we know and love), Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus Aituro), Justin Deas (Buzz Cooper), Margaret Colin (Margo Montgomery Hughes #1 on As the World Turns), and  Yvonna Kopacz-Wright (Mel Boudreau Bauer).

Bethany Joy Lenz (credited then as Joie Lenz) aka (Michelle Bauer Santos #4) was pictured at Lifetime’s holiday party at The Grove. See a gorgeous photo in the January 7, 2019 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Rebecca Budig (Michelle Bauer #3, part of the Messe pairing) has a role on the new show LA’s Finest. Read about it in the November 26, 2018 issue of Soap Opera Digest. See a chain of photos showing the Christmas 1997 when Budig’s Michelle was blinded in the December 24, 2018 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Jordi Vilasuso (Tony Santos #1 of Marony fame) is fitting in well in his new The Young and the Restless role as Rey Rosales a cornerstone of the newly established Rosales clan. A feature on his character’s romance with Sharon Newman in the November 12, 2018 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. Vilasuso answers a round up that he recommends the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho read why in the January 7, 2019 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. Visit with Jordi Vilasuso (Tony Santos #1) and his family for Christmas in the December 24, 2018 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. He describes getting his The Young and the Restless role in the same issue. Read all about the new Geona City family in the November 12, 2018 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. He was also the Take Five focus with an awesome photo in the December 3, 2018 issue of Soap Opera Digest. Vilasuso is featured in the me and him contrasting his style with his character’s in the September 3, 2018 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

In the August 1973 issue of Afternoon TV Mark Hulswit (Ed Bauer #3) is interviewed. I think of him as 1970s Ed and honestly a lot of the time when someone says Ed I still think of him for a second before I think of Peter Simon (Ed Bauer #4). Here’s the thing though. Ed at the time was written as a twit. I always thought he was a twit even at the time. Apparently lots of people thought of him as a hearthrob. Not to be mean, but I just don’t see it. He was a twit. I think the article “My Wife is as Liberated as She Wants to be…” kind of sums up why I think so. The rest of the article deserves the title. It does include a line about having a dinner every month that “includes Charita [Bauer] (Bert Bauer) or Caroline [McWilliams] (Janet Mason) or Tony or Franny [Myers] (Peggy Fletcher)….I still keep in touch with some of the people who were on the show in the past, but have left. Mike Zaslow (Roger Thorpe), for instance.” An entire paragraph includes talking about how close he is to Stefan Schnabel (Stephen Jackson – Rick’s grandfather). including snow shoeing at “Steve’s cabin in Vermont.” This is kind of cool too, his two daughters were extras one day on Guiding Light “We went on location to a park in New Jersey. Tina and Jenny were supposed to be little children walking home from school. It was raining that day, and they spent five hours walking in the rain.” It seemed to cure them of the desire to be in show business.” So they must have at least occassionally gone on location in the early 1970s. I found the rest of the names he dropped and added last names and character names, but I honestly have no idea who Tony was. I don’t see a match on the cast list I have.

The September 19, 2018 issue of the CBS Soaps in Depth gives a recap of the 1998 storyline, The Nursery Rhyme Stalker – it was Holly as she fell apart after Fletcher took off with their autistic daughter Meg.

Grant Aleksander (Phillip Spaulding #2, adult Phillip) is returning as Detective Asher in off-Broadway’s longest running play, Perfect Crime. He previously played the role last summer.  Robert Newman (Josh Lewis) has also done some time in the role. https://daytimeconfidential.com/2019/01/16/grant-aleksander-returns-to-perfect-crime?fbclid=IwAR28KyXbPurL8E9YQTrmgbiau6DRKw2VX1SfhJW-uo4vpCwmDq-KIxwyBoM

The September 3, 2018 issue of Soap Opera Digest features a roundup of weddings where one of the principals is shot including Alan Spaulding and Doris Wolfe.

It talks all about her recent work making multiple films for the Hallmark Channel and that her current boyfriend is William deVry (Julian Jerome, General Hospital). Find it with multiple photos in the article.

Lawrence Saint-Victor (Remy Bourdeau with Christina one of the last great couples) recently had a son, Christian Lavelle. Read an interview about it in the December 24, 2018 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

“Maybe It’s Because She’s Scared of the Truth”By HollyJo — posted on the Mannyac Board.

Michelle has always been a bit afraid of the truth, even though she always demands it from those around her, she herself has a hard time facing it, and that’s because she’s basically scared of it.

I don’t know how to explain it, but here goes my effort of doing just that.

Michelle doesn’t respond well to change. I think it goes back to her mother’s death (although I’ve always thought she was a bit like that, I noticed it became a major part of her character after her mother’s death). Michelle developed this idea in her head of how life is or rather how it should be. Her father should be with a certain woman (after her mother’s death, she always thought Ed should be with Holly and went to great lengths to see that it happened. It didn’t work, but that’s what she wanted), Rick and Abby should be together and never fight. Meta should always be there for her.

And love … well … love should be this safe and ever-after happy thing … always there … always supportive … and never changing, evolving or growing. Another words … she believed in the final sentence of fairy tales … “and they lived happily ever after.” To her, that was what love was, she never looked past that to see if the prince and princess in the fairytale fought, had troubles, grew apart, etc. To her, once love was established, that was basically it … and it should remain there with no changes. And any deviance from this picture she had her mind, she refused to acknowledge, because she was scared of what that would mean.

Currently, the truth that she is scared of is her increasing feelings for Danny. While he can be sweet, loving, and protective (all very much princely attributes), he’s also has a wicked temper, a horrible mother, a strict code of loyalty and he has this sexuality and raw passion that seeps from every pore of his body. These things don’t fit into her idea of a fairytale prince. Jesse’s tame passion and gentle manner do fit those deeply enseeded beliefs.

So here she is … confused about her feelings, refusing to face them, because to her, they aren’t what she’s always pictured. Danny isn’t a fairytale. At times he can be a nightmare. But those feelings are there, and they aren’t going any where, no matter how hard she tries to ignore them, excuse them or get rid of them. It’s making her look at love and passion in a whole new light … and this represents change. Change in her outlook in life and love.

And as I pointed out … Michelle is terrified of change.

The Positive Growth of the Manny Relationship Essay 17

Essay #17

“The Positive Growth of the Manny Relationship”

By Rhonda — posted on the Mannyac Board.

[As for] concerns about the Manny’s storyline. I think you’re suffering from spoiler overload, and it’s coloring your view and dimming your pleasure. I bet you’re so concerned about the possibility of Drew getting pregnant that you missed all the good, promising things that happened with Manny this week.

Just remember that none of the bad spoilers have turned out as bad as they sounded, not even Danny and Drew. For instance, the spoiler about Danny and Drew dealing with the consequences of their actions can’t be about Drew discovering she’s pregnant because it will have only been a day or so after the fact. Heck, one day may last all of next week.

So, relax, read the spoilers if you must, but think positive thoughts instead of negative ones. All of this is about bringing Manny together in a workable, passionate relationship while weaving them into the fabric of the show.

Manny’s story is as tightly knit as it was a week or even a month ago, in fact, I think the quality is improving. All this betrayal has freed Manny from their isolation, and has shaken their relationship and once the dust settles will allow some real growth in this area. Danny has a reason to interact with Drew, Jesse, and even Selena that doesn’t involve Michelle, and he is also developing a relationship with Rabby and will probably develop one with Meta as well. Now that Meta knows that Michelle cares for Danny, she will take as much of an interest in him as she did in Jesse.

Michelle is about ready to make a real commitment to Danny, and Danny will no longer be willing to settle for anything less (both good things in my opinion). Besides, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Michelle’s discovering that Danny sought sexual comfort from Drew will clarify, once and for all, her true feelings for Danny. I suspect that she and Danny will both be surprised by how intensely she reacts to that bit of news. Personally, I can’t wait … Michelle’s passionate nature has been struggling to get out, and I think this will be just the thing to set it free. Danny better watch out!

“This Young Man is From a Blood Simple Culture!”
(Written after the March 18th episode)

By BettyM — posted on the Mannyac Board.

Jen L. wrote … I suspect I’ll catch a lot of grief for this post, but Friday’s episode brought something into focus for me: Danny’s character is certainly complex. We all seem to agree that he is not all good or all bad, but much more realistic and three-dimensional than that. However, lately his “complexity” has become simple volatility … he flips from tenderness to rage on a dime.

Friday I was reminded of my own sometimes petulant 22-month-old son when Danny refused to even talk things out with Michelle and declared that he couldn’t even look at her right then. Give me a break! Adults don’t act this way — children do! That scene in particular seemed forced to me — Danny’s usually complex character was sacrificed (and made unidimensional), in my opinion, to advance the story line and give Danny an excuse for sleeping with Drew.

I hope that the writers realize this kind of emotion without more substantive motivation is not any more interesting than watching TWV try to drum up emotions he obviously doesn’t feel.

In response, BettyM had an interesting opposing point of view to offer …. No, you won’t catch grief, but I strongly disagree. It’s just my humble opinion, but you are making a mistake I think many fans do with Danny — ever since we’ve seen his ‘sweet’ side, some people see him as a normal guy who does normal leading man good guy stuff. He is not!

Danny is not Ozzie, and Michelle is not Harriet! This is a mafia prince who, I repeat, was trained to be and is in blood, steely, a trained killer, perhaps, and certainly ruthless; a passionate man, a man who has been raised in a volatile “blood-simple-don’t-tread-on-me” culture, a cobra taught to bite into the heel that stomps it. It ain’t pretty, but he isn’t Matt Reardon!

As he told Michelle, he put his ass on the line for her. His ass is still on the line for her, and I think many folks have forgotten that at this moment, he is expected to still take care of Michelle! Everyone keeps forgetting what Danny is, due to having seen his sweeter side, as though a man like Danny simply says, “oh gosh, honey bunch, next time you feel like turning me into the F.B.I., my feelings will be hurt, so buy me a tie, instead.”

I’m sure Danny resents even Michelle putting him on the spot, and in a situation where he not only almost messed up the people to whom he’s responsible; but has to now do something about her! Added to that, a large part of Danny’s anger was understandable passion and male ego, a sense that he wishes Michelle would look at him like Jesse, and her indications have been that she finds him unappealing, nay, recoil-worthy.

Some of his anger, was as he said, he knows she feels so contemptible of him, she didn’t care. He simply doesn’t trust her — all she’s done, for her understandable reasons, is lie, and that was why he said, on the dance floor, “don’t tell me you did it, because you love me, because I don’t know what I would do to you.”

See, he simply thinks she’s full of it, when it comes to him! He did not/does not/never did trust her feelings for him; Michelle, understandably uncertain, gave him every indication that she did find him recoil-worthy; so I understand where both [of them] are coming from.

“Michelle’s Confession and Danny’s Reaction”

By kristi — posted on the Mannyac Board.

Michelle’s confession would have been shocking enough any day but at least the last few weeks (only days in Springfield) Danny’d been grappling with the possibility of betrayal on Michelle’s part. He was more or less preparing himself for it. And if she’d told him this (that she’d called the F.B.I.) when she was trying to hold him off from going to the docks, when he was imploring her to stop and tell him what was going on (I loved Paul Anthony Stewart’s quiet delivery here – it was perfect for that moment), she might have gotten a better reaction, maybe even forgiveness.

Danny wasn’t prepared at all this time. He was back to worshiping Michelle and opening himself up to her. He was also probably whip-lashing himself for having believed his mother over his wife, for what he thought was his own betrayal. Poor Michelle couldn’t have picked up a worse moment to confess, in my opinion, but I believe she got too caught up in that suspended moment of the dance (when they got closer to each other like never before, when there was that brief union of the souls – someone described that dance for me last night and it sounded like a lovemaking dance to my ears) to fully realize the impact it would have on Danny.

I think we’ll get to see a lot of what you expected from Danny in the coming weeks, after the shock has had time to wear off. Actually, the spoilers seem to indicate that he understands where she was coming from, why she’d called the F.B.I., otherwise why would he offer her the greatest gift possible? From his point of view of Michelle’s situation, of course, he doesn’t know she wants to stay married, have another chance, all he knows is that she felt trapped enough to betray him in that way. And he’s offering her (probably) a one-way out ticket, and it’s not death this time.

Bottled With Love

April 13, 2019

Bethany Joy Lenz (then credited as Joie Lenz), our dearly beloved Michelle Bauer Santos #4, has been busy on the Hallmark Channel. Catch up about how she is described on their website,

Bethany Joy in a yellow dress

Bottle With Love Plot

Lenz is just ready to debut in her fourth movie with the Hallmark Channel since 2017. Previously she starred in Snowed-Inn Christmas, Royal Matchmaker, and Poinsettias for Christmas.  This movie is called Bottled With Love. Hallmark puts a lot of extras on their movie websites so play around with it.

“After being stood up, Abbey gets inspired to open her heart in a letter, put it in a bottle and toss it out to sea. Months later, a man fishing discovers it and opts to reach out. Starring Bethany Joy Lenz and Andrew Walker.”

From there it seems to follow the story of The Shop Around the Corner were they meet in real life and don’t get along where they communicate via letter/e-mail and after they meet one of them discovers the identity of the other, will they get together or not?

Interview

Here’s the Interview with Lenz.

It’s a Family

Peter Porte (Ricky Williams on The Young and the Restless) has made several Hallmark movies and was interviewed in the October 22, 2018 issue of Soap Opera Digest. He describes making Hallmark movies this way:

“They’re an incredible network,” Porte declares. “It really is like a family. They take very good care of everyone. It’s a very close-knit, family approach to television. It’s doing exceptionally well because in our current climate, people are starved for something they can watch with their whole family that is going to make them feel instantly good.”

Debut

I’m sure we all support Bethany and I hope you’ll catch either the premiere or the rerun. Catch Bottled With Love on the Hallmark Channel Saturday April 13 8:00 PM eastern / 7:00 central. Lenz and Walker are going to be hosting the movie during the commercial breaks.

Nancy St. Alban Featured in Epclusa Commercial 2019

February 28, 2019

Thanks to my Quola loving cousin, JewelSam, here is a new commercial featuring Nancy St. Alban (Michelle Bauer Santos #5). I hadn’t seen the full version of this, but she spotted Nancy and let me know. Nancy‘s last national commercial was a short run for Subway years ago. We’re very glad to see her again and hope to see her again soon.

Nancy St. Alban in "Print" Ad

What’s it for? “EPCLUSA has an overall cure rate of 98% across all 6 main types of hepatitis C (Hep C).

This is the long version of this commercial. Nancy is the first person at the beginning of the commercial and appears again as I think a realtor at 40 seconds into the commercial.

This is a much clearer version, but it wouldn’t embed.

December 17, 2018

Periodically soap magazines come out with special editions. Sometimes they’ll forgettable sometimes – say like the tribute edition to As the World Turns after it was canceled – they’re a must have. I think this one is one that you’ll want. I don’t know that all the couples are ones I’d have chosen, but they are really nice approximately 4 page write ups of the couples included. Plus 2 page photo spreads of other big couples. It’s 100 pages.

I’m sure what everyone wants to know if Manny is one of the couples. — Sadly, no. They weren’t chosen for a write up, but they do get a two page spread of photos from a photo shoot I don’t recognize. So at least they aren’t common. All three photos are of the Stenz version of Manny with Paul Anthony Stewart (Danny Santos) and Joie Lenz (Michelle Bauer Santos #4).

The couple that got a write up for Guiding Light was Jeva.

If you can’t find a copy of the newest special edition in a store near you, click here to order it online —>  https://bauer-media-group.myshopify.com/collections/soaps-in-depth/products/soaps-in-depth-special-soaps-greatest-love-stories

Birthday Card 2018

December 12, 2018

Every year my cousin helps deliver a present and card for me from Danny and Michelle. It’s been a couple of months, but here it is.

And here is their report from this summer.
