Help Me Find Hank the Barfly

June 24, 2012

I was just e-mailed a question and since I didn’t have a good answer I’ll be spreading it around. I hope one of you can help. The daughter of an actor who was a recurring extra on Guiding Light wants some help getting his information fixed on IMDB. Below is the information I have please comment or e-mail me if you have any suggestions.

My father, W.M. Supernaw, known as Bill by family & friends, was on GL in the 1980s I believe. He played a barfly. I recently found his CV & it lists his character as Hank.

My dad passed away on June 17, 2012 & I’m trying to update his IMDb profile. I need the episode numbers, or at least the year range, that he appeared on GL. I think it was while I was in high school, in 84-87, but may have been earlier, since I also thought it conflicted with Luke & Laura’s wedding on GH. Any idea when Hank the Barfly was on GL in the 1980s?

In a follow up e-mail she added:
I actually got in touch with Raul A. Reyes, a frequent GL extra. He spoke to a few buddies & let me know that my dad was probably on from 1984-1986.

However, IMDb won’t allow me to put a span of years down. I can now only register my dad for the exact episodes he was in! There’s no way I can watch 2 years of GL to figure that out.

Let’s try to help out this member of the GL family in her hour of need. Please pass this along widely and check any sources you might have. I think if we could at least find one definitive episode with the date or number it would help correct the record.

Odds and Ends Five

November 29, 2011

While looking for Guiding Light information, I sometimes find things that I think are of interest relating to other soaps. This collection of Odds and Ends related to various soaps that someone may want to know some time. Look for another odds and ends post soon.

Christopher “Chip” Mayer died on July 23, 2011. Mayer came up through the soap world playing T.J. Daniels on Santa Barbara from 1987-1988. He was also married for 2 years  in the mid-1980s to Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott on The Young and the Restless). However, his best known role was as part of the pair of scab cousins (Coy and Vance Duke)  who tried to replace Bo and Luke during a contract dispute. Turned out The Dukes of Hazzard only worked with the originals.

Real Royalty in the form of Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful as Bill Spencer Jr.’s secretary in late 2011. Her Royal Highness has appeared in other TV and movie productions.

In 1986, General Hospital used Charleston, South Carolina, to double the small town of Laurelton.

In 1994, All My Children taped the Edmund and Maria’s wedding in Garden City, New York.

The Bold and the Beautiful aired a special episode with a collection of 20 real-life veterans from all wars. One of them was Jonathan Khan. Khan was in a military police unit. He works as an extra on other soaps. You’ll see him as a doctor on General Hospital and a paramedic on Days of Our Lives.

The Bold and the Beautiful went HD on September 7, 2011. Their makeup head, Christine Lai-Johnson, was asked about changes she had made because of the switch. Basically she said the fact that television screens were larger alone had already brought on most of the changes because pancake makeup was too obvious, but they were working on a lighter, more natural look especially on the men. Read the rest of it on the Oct. 18, 2011 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Eric Forrester’s 1990 wedding to Brooke Logan, complete with hot air balloon and horse riding, was shot in and around Palm Springs, California on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Story of an Extra

May 9, 2011

Have you ever been looking for something you never thought you’d need again and stumbled over something totally different, but great? That’s how I found this article. I was looking for the official GL website that looked like a map (it was awful, but I was hoping it would have Cedars logo on it) and stumbled across this instead.

This is a great behind the scenes peek and if anybody actually recognizes Reyes in a YouTube clip let me know. I’d love to be able to link to a clip or two here.

Best part it gives you a list of regular extras to look for besides Raul the orderly, “There was Lynn, the waitress at Company restaurant; Alvin, the cop at the police station; and Darlene, the nurse and my fellow employee at Cedars Hospital. We’re just a few of the regular-but-not-always-recognizable denizens of the fictional town of Springfield.”
