Guiding Light Cast Roundup 79

September 20, 2017

This is the seventy-ninth in an irregular feature where we will report updates on what cast members of Guiding Light are doing now. I’m playing catch up on some soap magazine news. So as a reminder you can buy back issues:
https://glmanny.wordpress.com/2014/06/07/faq-back-issues-2014/

The January 30, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest published the Manny photo from Instagram.

Check out “The Guiding Light” pp 42-44 in Daytime TV Yearbook, no. 5 1974. It includes the cast at the time with individual photos and bios.

The November 4, 1986 issue of Soap Opera Digest featured an article on the effect of chaos and switching TPTB behind the scenes. They tell about what’s going on behind the scenes on Guiding Light in the mid-1980s.

I’m sure I mentioned this when this first came out, but I just came across the August 1, 2011 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. In a feature on characters who get back together to characters after they really should know better, Manny get a page and a half and several photos.

The July 31, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest flashes back to what happened on all the soaps, including Guiding Light, in 1998. As any Manny fan knows the most important event that year was that Manny got its start. Also important was Michael Zaslow (the irreplaceable Roger Thorpe) was unceremoniously fired due to his advancing illness, Fiona Hutchinson (Jenna Bradshaw Cooper, Vanessa’s sort of sister, Buzz’s true love), Jay Hammer (long time reporter Fletcher Reade), Lisa Brown (Nola Reardon Chamberlain, of the Quola pairing), all left.

Bethany Joy Lenz (then credited as Joie Lenz) was on the red carpet for the premiere of HBO’s Big Little Lies. See a photo in the April 27, 2017 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Daniel Cosgrove (Bill Lewis #4, part of the wonderful Bizzie pairing) talks about being an introvert in the July 25, 2016 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Jane Elliot (Carrie Marler, Ross’ wife) has retired from her iconic soap role on General Hospital. Read more in the April 17, 2017 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Find a photo of Jordi Vilasuso (Tony Santos #1 of Marony fame) is given a full page photo with a discussion of his diet in the July 25, 2016 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. His character’s departure from Days of Our Lives means that there is a feature interview with Vilasuso in the August 7, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest. Since then has done two movies. Vilasuso did a quick short spot talking about what he has learned watching Justin Deas (Buzz Cooper) and A. Martinez on Days. It’s a nice little shot of how Deas worked. Find it in the March 21, 2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Laura Bell Bundy (Marah Lewis #5, the one who started Marony) married TBS excecutive Thom Hinkle in Arcadia, CA at the Santa Anita Park racetrack on June 3, 2017. Read about it in the June 26, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Sonia Satra (Lucy Cooper Spaulding, part of terrific LAM pairing, victim of Marian Crane) has a featured interview about her part as Gloria Steinem in a 10 point docuseries American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story in the August 14, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Michael Tylo (Quint McCord Chamberlain) was interviewed in the December 30, 1986 issue of Soap Opera Digest when he first came on All My Children. He talks about his time on Guiding Light and his bicoastal marriage.

Find a feature on the play Breathing Under Dirt including Michael O’Leary (Rick Bauer #5, the adult one we know and love),  Grant Aleksander (Phillip Spaulding #2, adult Phillip), Cynthia Watros (Annie Dutton #1), Tina Sloan (Lillian Raines), and Beth Chamberlain (Beth Raines Spaulding #2) is in the August 8, 2016 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth

Chamberlain was also the subject of a feature about her career as a fitness guru in the August 11, 2011 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Find a report on the 2016 Daytime Stars and Strikes event in the July 25, 2016 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

There is a where are they now catch up feature with soap stars who’ve gone on to primetime TV success in the February 27, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest. It included is Frank Grillo (the last Hart Jessup) who now stars on Kingdom his real life wife and former Guiding Light love interest Wendy Moniz (Dinah Marler #3) played his love interest in Kingdom‘s second season. In the August 14, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest an Ask Us question explained that Moniz appeared in seasons 4 and 5 in House of Cards as Laura Moretti.

Krista Tersreau (Mindy Lewis #1) was quoted in the best quotes feature of April 15, 2013 issue of Soap Opera Digest. The quote was originally published April 10, 1984. About her screen-test experience for the soap, “As soon as I got in the limo, I felt like such a big shot. I was sitting in the back seat and I rolled the windows down, thinking when people pass they’d look in and want to see who is in there.”

Emme Rylan (Lizzie Spaulding Lewis #6, part of the wonderful Bizzie pairing) shared a photo of her family from her latest baby shower in the June 26, 2017 issue of Soap Opera DigestRylan  is having baby #3. Gina Tognoni (Dinah Marler #4) shared a photo of her summer tip to Graceland in the June 26, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Judi Evans (Beth Raines #1) has previously played two very distinct roles on Days of Our Lives. She had returned awhile ago to her iconic role as Adrienne Johnson, but recently they’ve brought back Bonnie Lockhart. Their runs were on separate times and when Bonnie came on their resemblance was not noticed but will play a major part in current story. Find more in the July 31, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Daniel Hall who is now Scott Granger on The Young and the Restless had several short term roles on Guiding Light including Jack/Jake/Unnamed Pickpocket. Find an interview with him where he includes his time on GL in the April 17, 2017 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. He also discusses (and is pictured with) Saundra Santiago (Carmen Santos). They didn’t overlap on the soap, but got to know each other later.

Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne Lewis) attended the opening night of Robert Newman (Josh Lewis)’s new production of Man of La Mancha. Check out a photo in the July 11, 2016 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Brittany Snow (Daisy Susan LeMay Cooper #2 – during Susan’s first return) appeared on the red carpet photos in the July 11, 2016 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Back in 2011, Frank Dicopoulos (Frank Cooper) announced becoming the host of a NJDiscover show called Earth Treasures. It’s no longer on the air, but there is a photo of him with his family including his daughter Olivia who was Maureen Reardon on the show. See it in the August 11, 2011 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

When Maeve Kinkead was out of Guiding Light on maternity leave she was replaced by Anna Stuart best known as Donna Love on Another World. Read about it in the November 4, 1986 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Kassie DePaiva (Chelsea Reardon, Maureen and Nola’s little sister) reported she was now cancer free in the February 27, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

In the December 30, 1986 issue of Soap Opera Digest, a fan writes in and asks about Calla Matthews. The fan wanted to know if Calla still had syphilis. She was cured of the disease, but would no longer be able to have any more kids.

A question in the December 30, 1986 issue of Soap Opera Digest ask if Keith Timmons on Santa Barbara‘s cat was really his actor’s Justin Deas‘s cat. It wasn’t.

In the December 30, 1986 issue of Soap Opera Digest has a great 2 page photo of Grant Aleksander (Phillip Spaulding #2, adult Phillip) with a couple of cats. It’s worth finding the issue. There’s also a photo of Kimi Packs who played Dorie who India adopted.

Roger Howarth (Jory Andros, Eleni’s brother in 1992) returned to shooting his role of Franco Baldwin on General Hospital in July after a protracted contract neogiation. Read more in the August 14, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

JoBeth Williams (Brandy ???) talks about how Guiding Light‘s TPTB were kind and let her out of her contract after she hit the big time in Kramer vs. Kramer. The quote was originally from 2002, but was quoted again in the April 15, 2013 issue of Soap Opera Digest about how nice TPTB were about letting her out of her contract.

The April 4, 1986 issue of Soap Opera Digest answers a fan question about Simon Hall (the illegitimate son of Alexandra’s first husband who was also the father of Lujack and Nick McHenry). His accent was Canada and was his actor’s (Shawn Thompson) real accent.

Beth Ehlers (Harley Cooper Davidson) was quoted from an interview originally published in the June 8, 1993 issue and republished in the August 7, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest: “Actors are just normal people. I think that disappoints fans more than anything else.” Ehlers was also featured in a round up of siblings paired with Frank Dicopoulos (Frank Cooper).

Check out a casual photo of Laura Wright (Cassie Winslow #1) and her current boyfriend Wes Ramsey (Sam Spencer, Olivia’s brother) in the July 31, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Jeva Custody Case 1996 Feb 12 16 1996

August 7, 2017

I started going through and breaking Bandstand Mike’s episodes into dates. This run started on December 20, 1995. Our last post in the series ended February 9 1996.

Monday, February 12, 1996

I think Amanda is right about Ross being furious and on her side if he would find her or find out about it, but why would he think to look for her? He thinks she left his office to go home. Rick confesses to Annie he doesn’t think she and Josh will make it and that he still loves her. Alan tells Reva give up the custody fight, make a deal, or he’s out of their relationship.

Reva tells Alan that she needs him in her life. Amanda makes a foolish decision and doesn’t ask the guard for help. That’s kind of awesome that Amanda figured how to get out.

Ross: “I waited a lifetime to find you.”

Blake: “And when you did you couldn’t get enough.”

Dinah and Amanda find each other at a bar and commiserate. Hart heads to the bus station.

Reva tells Alan she’s choosing her kids, she isn’t pursuing the kids just to keep a link with Josh. He still doesn’t believe her. He gives Reva the house. She says she won’t stay there, but she and Josh later live there. Ross discovers Blake left her birth control in the bathroom despite Ross specifically asking her to use it to take the stress off.

Ross is concerned about Blake. Dinah and Amanda are quickly becoming drinking buddies. Dinah: “If you can unseat the henna head more power to you!” (Henna is used for various things including red hair dye.) Ross believes Josh is devoted to Annie. He’s normally not this stupid.

Nice for Reva to have reached out to Dylan even if it’s off camera. Hawk really looked cold in that coat. Great acting job. Hawk tells Reva that he was staying with a friend and got kicked out when he burned down the coach. Hawk also confesses he blew through all of Miss Sarah’s money on gambling. Josh is supporting Miss Sarah now. Look at Reva and that handkerchief. She genuinely cared for Alan. It makes no sense considering how she treats him later. Good for Amanda not letting Dinah drive drunk.

“All the damage fear has done.” That’s a perfect song for Bloss right now. The quilt on their bed is Flying Geese pattern.

Tuesday, February 13, 1996

It’s a new day in Springfield. Buzz shows up to visit Reva and is ecstatic Reva and Alan have broken up.

Annie and Josh are concerned about the hearing today. That’s too bad that Dinah responded with snark. I think Blake is trying to be nice for once. Matt finally gets to work and finds a truly unconscious Amanda.

Marah is upset that Reva is doing something that has upset Annie and Josh. Hawk (about Jeva not reconciling immediately): “That doesn’t mean it’s open season for every Tom, Dick, or burger flipper.” Buzz and Hawk clash over Reva. Good for Reva to stand up as an independent woman. Reva: “I’m not a little girl anymore and I’m not Snow White waiting for some prince to come save me.” Buzz is indulging in some wishful thinking here.

Hawk turns up to see Marah. He brings her a Barbie like doll with a cowgirl outfit. I agree with Hawk someone should explain things to Marah even if it really isn’t his place. Amanda is rushed to Cedars. It’s a rough day for Alan with two children in the hospital. I’d say 3 months is a couple of months. That was pretty picky. Rick is called to the witness stand. Althea brings up Annie’s alcoholism.

Ross cross examines Rick. Ed is called to the stand. He claims privileged information and refuses to answer even when threatened with a contempt of court charge. I think the counseling stuff should be covered, but having to physically take a bottle out of her hands is direct experience and I do think he should be required to tell about that. Hawk explains Reva’s side to Marah. I’m kind of sorry Dinah outed Amanda. Blake kind of deserves it. Dinah’s right it’s a bit harsh to defend Blake to Amanda when Amanda was in the hospital.

Matt warns Blake and is shocked to hear Amanda was at least telling part of the truth. Ross walks by and over hears.

Wednesday, February 14, 1996

Alex finally shows up at Cedars to see A-M to find Nick and Susan already there this morning. I know it’s not nice what they are saying about Blake who I like, but I’m enjoying Dinah and Amanda as friends. They both need some female and friendly support.

About Blake Dinah: “She’s toast.”

Amanda: “Burnt toast.”

Dinah: “Soon to be turned into crumbs.”

Amanda: “And swept away. Bye-bye Blake.”

Alan shows up very concerned about Amanda. Why do you think Amanda could easily get out, Blake? I mean she Macguyvered her way out, but it wasn’t obvious.

Reva genuinely doesn’t know what Annie is talking about. I don’t blame Ross for being appalled. That is some mustache on the cop. Roger is still playing the distressed husband role. Luckily Dinah isn’t having it.

Nick and Susan are trying to keep prying eyes away from Lucy and Alan-Michael making out. We get a reference to Valentine’s Day. They were originally supposed to get married on that day. Which considering that was VERY close to A-M and Harley’s anniversary, it’s a little tasteless. Great job building up tension about the witness.

I don’t know why Reva objected to her lawyer. I think this is perfectly fair testimony especially because she had done absolutely nothing to help this woman even since marrying big money. Alex informs Nick and Susan who were talking about an impromptu wedding that she plans Alex: “the wedding of MY dreams.” Alan comes in informing the family that he has moved back into the mansion and that Amanda is down in Emergency. Roger continues to try and save his relationship with Dinah. It was Roger’s place originally, I don’t know why Dinah thinks he should leave.

Blake is put in the cell next to Brent Lawrence who is still insisting he’s Marian Crane. Roger is still focusing on how he NEEDS Dinah in his life. Sadly it’s because he’s embezzling her money and doesn’t want it to come out. Roger has a rare gift he can make you like him and hate him within the space of a handful of episodes and then do it all over again. Amanda to Matt about how she couldn’t break out of the construction shack: “Forgive me for never having watched This Old Shack.” That’s a reference to a popular PBS home remodel show This Old House. Annie testifies about her alcoholism and does a great job. (Honestly the only time I ever liked Annie on the show was when she was fighting with Ghost Reva otherwise it always seemed like even when she was happy there was a level of frenzied crazy eye right below the surface, but she did NOT deserve the campaign against her by Jeva which has already began even though Josh doesn’t realize it yet.)

Matt gets Amanda to drop the charges against Blake and is still on her case. Alexandra overhears his threat, but doesn’t know what Matt has on Amanda. Frank is frustrated about getting through to Brent and calls A-M. Dinah tells Roger that she isn’t having any that setting up Marcus and constantly seeing the look of pity in Holly’s eyes is too much she isn’t going back. Again it was Roger’s place Dinah moved in why should he leave?

Hart shows up on Dinah’s door. Blake is released and A-M shows up at the jail to talk to Brent. The judge rules that the kids stay with Josh, but Annie has to move out. I’m pretty positive, but not 100% that this is the tag for Wednesday, but the way it’s put together both the clips and the structure this could possibly be the before the credits of the next day.

Thursday, February 15, 1996

Dinah makes a crack about Hart not being the Prize Patrol – she is referencing American Publishing House which sent out a prize patrol with balloons and a giant fake check announcing you won so many million dollars in their drawing which you entered by buying magazine subscriptions. Frank Cooper decides he might be able to crack Brent by bringing in Alan-Michael and Lucy. Amanda is still sick (coughing) when no one is around, but not too bad. Blake shows up at her room to tear into Amanda. I think that Blake is wrong. Sure Amanda could have gotten out, but she easily might not have been able to. It was pretty clever of Amanda to come up with taking the door off the hinges and while she did hide from the guard, a cold night, a slack guard, and he might not have checked. It was a dangerous stunt if she didn’t follow up. Everyone is upset when Annie is ordered out of the house, but I kind of love this judge and I think he’s right. Judge: “It seems to me that Mr. Lewis has been moving JUST A BIT quickly, starting with his petition to this court two years early to have Reva Shayne Lewis declared legally dead….your client brought a new woman into the lives of his children. He encouraged them to call her Mommy. It would almost seem to this court that he wants Reva Shayne Lewis to stay dead to his children.” I think this judge is amazingly right on. Why didn’t Manny get HIM in divorce court so he could tell them to sit down and take a breath when they were rushing to get divorced? Buzz moves in to comfort and make a move on Reva. If the construction shack was so weak what was the point of it existing? It was supposed to be protecting those tools and it’s a semi-permanent set, it wasn’t exactly made of paper. Josh: “This shouldn’t be happening. It’s not fair. We both know who’s responsible.” Actually you’re exactly right, Josh. This shouldn’t be happening and YOU and Reva are responsible. Stand up and let Annie go now cleanly and she might still have a chance. What a great Ross and Ed best friend scene near the end. I just love it when they play that.

Brent Lawrence Bomb in the Lighthouse Part 4

January 3, 2017

Picking up from the last post Brent Lawrence still has Lucy. That’s the major storyline to me in this next section, but it’s interrupted for some more early Dart and kicking up the biggest story ever for the Grant family up a notch. Matt is still threatening Amanda about coming clean about the her escort service. Nola is still having problems with J and Bridget is trying to decide if she should go after Hart or not. Also, sort of tying in with the rescue attempts, but not really, Alan warns Annie that he thinks Jeva are starting to get back together and Buzz is making a move on Reva. Comment blocks below include clip description, quotes, and my comments.

Monday, February 5, 1996

Hart had come to town wanting revenge on Roger for what he did to his grandfather (impregnated and then abandoned his daughter, stole his land, and triggered his death) and how Roger had believed Jenna (Roger’s then wife) over Hart when Jenna accused Hart of aggressively hitting on her. (Jenna had lied to cover her own betrayal of Roger.) Hart rubs Roger’s nose in the fact he had sex with Dinah. Marcus talks sense to Dinah, but she doesn’t want to hear it – so what else is new? Reva tells Frank and Frank calls in the cops to come to the dock. We have an amazingly good section where Alan and Buzz have a great back and forth with Brent. Over the years they have Alan and Buzz be enemies and have them work together. It’s always a lot cooler when they set them up to work together. They are different, but both can pull out the gravitas when needed. They throw in some Jeva-Annie business just to do a check-in on that storyline although it feels off where they stick it in. Of course Reva’s lawyer would try to find stuff against Annie and Josh. What do they think? Lucy and Alan-Michael “marry” each other while waiting for the bomb to go off at about 20 minutes into this clip. I was wondering at the time why they didn’t worry about Brent having a camera recording them. Lucy should have followed Brent into the room and not given him a chance to watch it.

Tuesday, February 6, 1996

It was nice look at Ross’ law office, but I don’t know why he’d take off and leave it unlocked. It’s nice of Alan to talk Buzz down about Frank. Nick McHenry shows up and wants to know what’s going on. Reva had hidden in the back of Brent’s truck and is now sneaking into the lighthouse. Hart brings Dinah to Ross’ office to start the ball rolling on her divorce, but doesn’t want to stick around. I don’t understand though what his issue was. Even if he was completely lying (which I only think he thinks he is right now) why not just say he wants kept out for legal reasons and has to go back to work. Why make the big point about leaving to go to lunch? I kind of feel bad though, for once in his life Frank cracks a crime through brain power & 30 seconds later Reva comes in and steals his glory. I’m with Ross I saw how Roger talked Dinah into signing him her power of attorney and I still can’t believe she was that stupid. It’s also not good to co-mingle all funds even within a good marriage. That exact accounting of Dinah’s funds (which Roger has been embezzling left and right) is why Roger has been making these desperate plays to keep Dinah. I think he did like her, but he liked her money and sticking it to Ross even more. Roger is in love with Holly and despite all the garbage between them (they are both in need of serious pscyh help) I do believe she loves him too. Going for the bomb was truly a brilliant move on Alan-Michael’s part. He is at his smartest in the year or so right before this.

Wednesday, February 7, 1996

Really these are very well done recap half scenes.

Roger: “You know what it’s like to love somebody so much that you’d be willing to do anything to keep them.”

Ross: “Yes, but I don’t think you do.”

Ross is completely wrong here. Roger was willing to deliberately injure himself in a car crash to get another chance with Holly. He just doesn’t feel that way about Dinah. Plus, Ross should see that Roger is legitamately desparate, just over the consequences not losing Dinah per say.  I don’t get Hart being ready to take off either. I don’t think he was ever mature enough to be a good father, but I do think he cared about the kid, at least enough to say goodbye in person. Plus, this is where he gets to stick to Roger. If he takes off Roger might get Dinah back which Hart has spent all this time to set up to keep from happening. Cassie Lawrence shows up and tries to talk Brent down. Ross talks sense to Dinah while Roger waits outside. Maybe he’s trying to get Ross to bust them up hoping he can then reconcile. Bridget reads Hart the riot act. She has started to get emotionally involved again. And if you were starting to think maybe Roger genuinely caring for Dinah note that it was the minute Ross tried to get her to sign the nullification of the Power of Attorney was when he burst in and sadly she leaves without signing. Ross and Roger have a long complicated history an confrontation between them is great. David was in love with Bridget and he was my second choice for her right behind Dylan. They were great friends for a long time – as Bridget and Dylan were – and I think they could have had an incredibly solid marriage, but it never occurred to Bridget to see David that way. The back and forth between Brent, Lucy, and Alan-Michael during the confrontation is great, but it takes like 2 minutes tops to run up the stairs at the lighthouse. Just what is taking Frank and Nick so long? They should have showed them starting later if they didn’t want them up there by now. I’m glad A-M showed he truly was the better person by holding on to Brent, but I can’t blame Lucy for wanting him to let go. This was a good fake out with Bridget and Hart, but it would have been better if they’d cut it in before Dinah arrived. I’ve never heard Miranda read like that, but I think if you have to say “Do you understand?” you need some sort of recognition before you can continue. Full long credits at the end of this one.

Thursday, February 8, 1996

Dinah and Hart talk and you figure out maybe Hart’s decision wasn’t as clear cut as everyone else thought to this point. Blake comes in and hears Ross tell that Hart slept with Dinah to get get even. Blake is on Hart’s side, but Roger tells Blake he still loves her no matter how she feels around him. Roger: “[Amanda] is after your husband and everyone in the whole town knows it…so far this one may have lusted after Amanda only in his heart, but give him time.” [In a very famous interview of former President Jimmy Carter when asked about if he’d ever committed adultery he admitted to having lusted in his heart.]

Alan-Michael: “I’m fine.”

Alan: “I’ll believe that when Ed Bauer tells me. I almost lost you once I’m not taking another chance.”

Dinah is hurt by Hart’s attitude. Ed checks out Lucy and Alan-Michael. They are good, but he wants them both in the hospital overnight for observation. Lucy apologizes for losing the $10 million dollars by hitting Brent with the suitcase.

A-M: “Father….that money in the satchel it wasn’t yours, was it?”

Lucy: “Yea, I’m very sorry for loosing it. I just had to hit him with something.”

Alan: “You were magnificent, Lucy. I couldn’t have put it to better use myself.

Lucy: “Yea, but it was a lot of money.”

A-M: “It WAS yours.”

Alan: “It’s only money, son. The most important thing is that you are safe.”

And he really means it. That right there is while you love Alan despite all the awful crap he pulls. I never really liked Nick except when he was happy with Mindy, but when he truly acts like a cousin to A-M which is rare enough I love him. Brent has terrible mental issues. I don’t think he’s faking, but I don’t remember. Why didn’t they call Amanda? She’s his sister and helped during the crisis. Matt to Vanessa about Dinah: “She doesn’t know you as well as she thinks she does.” Sadly that’s because while she does her best to take care of Dinah, Vanessa never ever opens up to Dinah. They needed that conversation for Vanessa to confess how she was as a young woman and how desperate she is for Dinah not to repeat her mistakes. Another nice Alan-Buzz moment. Buzz to Reva: “You have a choice.” You have a choice? Yea, Reva could choose to be independent and walk away from Alan without having to run to another man for once.

Friday, February 9, 1996

I don’t know why Reva believed Josh’s story and allowed it to color her attitude so completely. Even if Alan did things as worse than Josh said, he just went through that ordeal with his kid. If she had even mild affection for him, she should have felt glad for him.

Blake: “Very smooth.”

Amanda: “I use moisturizer. Everyone should.”

Blake and Amanda who are more alike than either will admit (which is too bad Amanda grew up a lot during her first run on the show she was in a really great place last time we saw her before this recast). Blake locks Amanda in the construction shack which should have a phone so she can call to get out. I hope she can. Blake could have been having supper with Ross instead. It would have better served her cause. Rick is subpoenaed by Reva’s lawyer. Reva’s lawyer, Althea Templeton, warns her that Ross will come after her fitness as a mother. Reva: “I’m their mother. I gave them life and for the last 5 years I’ve lived like a damn saint.”

Marah hears the yelling for some reason assumes it’s about her. Marah is acting odd and Annie and Josh realize it. Reva tries to talk Alan to get it. Reva: “Bud can’t give without taking something back. He’s a Lewis and I’m a Shayne.” Reva describes the terrible thing that is always an issue between them. I think she’s quite right about this Josh doesn’t see it. This reminds me so much of the scene where she was moving out of H.B.’s house to move in with Josh and he made her throw out her clothes because HIS wife wouldn’t wear those things that I think is a defining moment in their relationship even more than the fountain scene.

Reva: “I just can’t be beholden to him anymore and that’s the bottom line. Maybe he just can’t see it. Maybe being born golden blinds you to certain things and being born poor lets you see too much. Bud always knew his place in the world and I spent a lifetime looking for mine and I thought that maybe once I had him I’d have everything I needed in life. I’d finally feel strong and safe and secure and that I could do no wrong. He knew I’d be and do whatever he wanted to get him and he was right. Even when we were kids he’d dangle carrots in front of my face. He’d say you be it Reva or we can’t play or put a prettier dress on or I won’t sit  in church with you. I gave Josh my mind, my body, and my soul and I will NOT give him my children so he can make them feel the way I felt my entire life.”

Alan: “Reva, you can find a middle ground.”

Reva: “No, Alan, with Bud it’s all or nothing and that’s the way it’s going to have to be with me. I’m sorry, but I’m moving out.”

Rick and Ed discuss their supeonas. Rick thinks Ed will be able to claim privileged information and Ed says recent court rulings says that AAA people can be forced to testify about things said in meetings which I think is terrible. I’m going to have to look it up and see if that’s still true. That Ed understands this I totally get, but what does he mean IF? Ed did this same exact thing to protect Michelle from Claire. Rick is exactly right about this. I know Ed thinks Rick is seeing what he wants too, but he’s completely correct. Josh and Reva are getting back together and Annie is just a roadblock. And it’s the not telling Annie that will completely break her.

Annie’s hair is completely gorgeous here. Annie is such a competent nurse. I hate they took that away from her. The old guy’s name isn’t Scottie Hamilton. Scott Hamilton was a very famous Olympic ice skater. I just love it. Amanda is still trapped. Amanda: “Help! Is anyone out that? Help me I’ve been locked inside by a neurotic bimbo!” Now that’s funny. Amanda has an AMAZING fantasy sequence based on Dudley DoRight. Mountie Marler: “What do you expect from the daughter of Snidley Whiplash?” — Amanda: “Now show me while they call you mounties.” Eyebrow arch. LOL

I’m glad that Rick didn’t get his wish about reuniting with Annie, but that is a lovely old married couple squabble. That is a gorgeous wild rose quilt in Marah’s room. That’s terrible lighting in the Alan/Reva scene look at that awful  shadow on Reva’s sweater and then on her face. After Reva poured her heart out about the pain Josh caused how can Alan not get this?

Final Brent Lawrence Terror Part 3 Jan 29 Feb 2 1996

January 1, 2017

Monday, January 29, 1996

The cop tailing A-M reports to Frank (via radio which they know Brent has been checking????) and they are ready to follow A-M when he leaves thinking he’ll lead them to Brent. Amanda jumps in front of A-M’s car telling him she won’t let him risk his life. A-M is her brother and she loves him. Buzz is also listening to the police band radio while working in the dinner. Buzz and Reva had started the beginning of a friendship (which always turns to sex with Reva) when she was still in Amish Reva/Rebecca mode. They’d met up a few times in Springfield, but Reva had never told him of her connection to either Alan or Josh which hurt Buzz and made him feel like a fool.

It’s hard to tell if Brent is buying Lucy coming around to like him or not. He wants to have sex with Lucy, but she tells him that she’d be fine if only they’d go someplace else. Brent starts to freak out, but then comes around. He starts to walk Lucy through the night of rape, making Lucy walk them through that night from his POV. Amanda begs A-M to tell police what Brent said and A-M begs Amanda to let him go.

Amanda: “You’re my brother, I just found you again, you can’t die.”

A-M: “If I die trying to save her, then I die. I can’t let her down. Please try and understand Amanda, I can’t.”

A-M spots his police trail and realizes Frank is going to have him followed. He asks Amanda to help him get away.

Alan is trying to get Annie to help him keep Reva and Josh apart. Annie at first claims her marriage is solid, but then listens to Alan. Annie says she has nothing to hide (um, the retcon makes this totally untrue, although the drug addiction she had even then doesn’t help).

Frank’s partner suffers a fit of self-doubt giving a recap of recent action. Meanwhile Amanda disguised as A-M drives off. A-M runs down the stairs that shows Level 5 is the first one under street level. Brent continues his rewrite of their rape night.

Lucy takes over reminding Brent of how great they had been together before that night. It seems like Lucy has him reeled in, but then the alarm goes off and Brent calls A-M telling him next to call him from the phone booth on the docks near where they found Nadine. Buzz is full of self-blame from how he has let everyone down repeatedly. Most recently by staying with Reva instead of showing up at Frank’s police academy graduation. Reva tells him to knock off complaining and do something. Alan continues to push Annie to help him. Rick is still interested in Annie and she turns to him afraid her alcoholism will come out.

Annie is frantic to Rick that by revealing her alcoholism Reva will take Marah and Shayne from Josh. Rick talks her down. A-M makes the deadline to pick up the phone on the docks.

Brent reacts to Lucy having interrupted his A-M. Lucy says she’s upset because Brent lied to her, not because of A-M. Lucy continues to try to convince Brent to leave town without seeing A-M. Brent doesn’t bite and tells A-M to come to the lighthouse which A-M believes is finally the meet. Frank catches Amanda and tells her she just killed A-M.

Rick says he will help Annie, but never lie for her again. She freaks out and storms out the door. Buzz tells Reva she made a mistake being with Alan, that she should be with him instead. Frank gets out of Amanda what she knows which isn’t much. Alan shows up and Amanda catches Alan up. A-M shows up at the lighthouse and Brent comes out and smiles.

Tues., Jan. 30, 1996

Annie returns home to the Land of Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams. She’s freaked and tells Josh she has to move out. Buzz tells Reva that she should be with him instead because he could love her better than either Alan or Josh despite the fact that minutes ago he was saying how he failed everyone he ever loved. Alan is furious when Amanda catches him up and attacks her. Brent delightedly welcomes A-M to the lighthouse.

Brent makes fun of A-M. Brent: “Do you know how stupid a name that is, Alan-Michael?” (I kind of wish that A-M had explained the story behind his name at that point just to throw Brent off.) Brent reminds A-M that he shot him in the stomach after making him beg for Lucy’s life and to see her. Brent: “It feels like you swallowed fire.” Brent says pushing the gun into A-M’s stomach. Annie tells Josh about what Alan said and she says she has to move out. Marah overhears and is further upset. Reva asks Buzz what he’s talking about that they are just friends with some sexual attraction. Reva runs down Alan’s good points. I wish she’d remember this later on. Buzz insists if she really loved Alan, she’d have said so. Buzz tells her to call Alan and say she is going to date Buzz and goes in for a kiss.

Meanwhile Alexandra has Matt over telling him she wants to build a second home office that would be for Alan – I guess she’s taken over the one she’s standing in -and a solarium off the kitchen for cook to grow herbs. Matt calls her on just wanting more information on Amanda. Brent runs a portable metal detector over A-M and discovers he has a gun. Brent brings A-M up to the second floor of the lighthouse where Lucy is and they finally see each other again. I haven’t counted soap days, but in real life it’s been a month. See I think I would have wound this up quicker than this and pushed Reva and Josh to the second part of the month, but I’m not a writer. 🙂

A-M says hello and Brent taunts him. Lucy says she never wanted to see A-M again. Alan has pressed the right psychological button and Amanda is back to being a good little girl again. Sadly she’s fragile. Alan hires a new computer expert and puts him on finding Brent even though Spaulding’s normal computer people have failed. Alan calls the diner and Buzz tries to put him off, but Reva takes the phone and he catches her up and asks Reva to come. When he realizes it’s about Lucy and A-M, Buzz insists on coming along. And leaves the diner unlocked and unmanned. Seriously it’s no wonder why they were always on the verge of losing the business.

Marah comes down singing the song that drives the guy nuts in George Orwell’s 1984. This is NOT a good sign. Marah says Shayne was asking if they’d ever have to go live with Mama. They tell her no. Marah is clearly pretending the questions came from Shayne when they are from her and she is upset on whether she’ll have to go live with Reva or away from Josh or not. Then Marah continues to sing the crazy bell song — seriously it freaks me out every since I heard a radio production of 1984. Amanda is also freaked out. Alex tells Amanda that Matt has told her all about it. Matt jumps into the breech and continues the cover story. Lucy freaks out on Brent pretending she doesn’t care about A-M. Lucy jumps into attack mode and Brent thinks she’s his mother and backs away into the fetal position, but still holding on to the gun.

Alan’s computer man, constantly typing, is working on tracking him down. Buzz says he thinks Brent doesn’t just want money, but wants to break everyone. Buzz thinks that Brent wouldn’t leave until he breaks A-M. Buzz, Alan, and Reva profile Brent. The computer guy gets a lead. A-M is afraid what Lucy is doing as they communicate with their eyes. Then Brent pops back up. Brent says he’s going to count to 30 and then shoot A-M. If Lucy tries to stop him, he’ll know she’s lying. Lucy tries to argue that he shouldn’t kill A-M just because it would be stupid. It doesn’t work. He puts Lucy’s hands under his on the gun and points it at A-M.

Amanda and Matt talk. Amanda tells Matt that she’s always afraid she won’t be part of the Spaulding family anymore. Amanda tells Matt they have a deal. She’ll stay away from Ross and he’ll keep his mouth shut about their connection in California. (If you don’t know for reasons they’re never really clear about, Amanda was running a prostitution ring and Matt was working for her.) As Brent reaches 30 in his count for Lucy to shoot the expert finds the number, Alan chats to Brent. Meanwhile A-M comes up behind Brent with a ceramic knife. Bravo! Bravo! There’s some his grandfather Mike’s smarts! ♥

Wed., January 31, 1996

We pickup a different storyline today as Hart comes in and finds Dinah sitting alone in the farmhouse in the dark. He lights a kerosene lamp. Dinah expects Hart to tear into her. Alan is luring Brent in on the chat when A-M comes behind Brent (For some reason with a horror movie knife raise instead of a quick next to jugular move), but at the last minute Brent turns and fires at A-M.

A-M is shot and in pain, but not dead. Lucy continues with her plan to convince Brent she wants him. Holly, Fletcher, Ross, and Blake are having a nice reception at Reva Bend. They are concerned about Dinah. Holly abruptly changes the conversation when Fletcher brings up that Roger had said he still loved Holly. Hart tells Dinah that he just wanted to help Dinah – which I don’t think is really true, but for the sake of future story I’ll believe it.

Roger is eating with his lawyer Leo Flynn at the diner. The diner is totally jumping now, Elaine is in charge, and I have NO idea what time of day is this supposed to be other than they’re not eating a normal breakfast. Leo sends up a line saying this first thing Roger…Ross will ask for is a financial accounting and as Roger has stolen all of Dinah’s money that isn’t good. Roger is sure he can talk Dinah back, but she heard the sincerity in Roger’s voice when he said he loved Holly. Alan and Buzz are blustering at each other when Brent returns to the chat with the news he shot A-M.

Hart tries to cheer up Dinah pointing out all the other people that Roger fooled and that Hart himself had been the biggest fool. Hart retells her his story and how his grandfather raised him on Yates. Hart: “The woods of Arcady are dead. And over is their antique joy.” Ross turns down seconds on the appetizer that Blake made and Ross and Fletcher both threw their appetizers into the fireplace when Blake wasn’t looking. I guess Blake isn’t that good a cook. Holly is concerned with Meg’s future. Blake tells Holly about her baby concerns. Blake’s outfit is really cute, but I just can’t stand how Holly keeps talking about how great Fletcher is and how she can trust him. The only woman he never abandoned was Maeve and that was just because she died before he got the chance. Fletcher broke my heart when he broke Claire’s and never did a thing to make it up.  Alan and Reva think Brent has brain washed Lucy, but Buzz recognizes she’s conning him to buy time. Alan negotiates with Brent and when it starts to go wrong Buzz panics.

Frank is at the diner, but he can’t eat. Eleni has made sandwiches for the other cops. Eleni tells Frank she was wrong to be opposed to Frank becoming a cop that he was meant to be one to help save Lucy. Brent leaves and A-M begs Lucy to quit playing this. Lucy tells him it’s her plan and it’s meant to buy time so they can survive. Dinah says she loved Roger. Hart to Dinah: “Roger isn’t worth your tears.”

Roger shows up at Ross and Blake’s carriage house looking for Dinah. Meanwhile at the Jessup Farm, Hart kisses Dinah. Buzz is upset. Both Buzz and Alan agree that the money is bait to lure him out into the open. Alan intends to kill Brent. A-M tells Lucy that the reason Brent is reacting to her strangely because he’s feeding her into the role his mother played in his life.

Thurs., Feb. 1, 1996

The Grants are having a family dinner and Griffin Williams shows up because Charles invited him. Hart and Dinah were still making out, but he breaks away. Roger tells everyone at the Bloss Carriage House to stay out of his life.

Hart kisses Dinah and we’re not sure at this point whether he’s playing Dinah or not. I don’t think Hart is entirely clear either. Griffith is showing off with stories of his work in the Civil Rights campaign and generally being kind of obnoxious.

Vivian does NOT want Griffith to stay in town. Nola sets up Jay to get his car locked up so he can’t take it. It’s pretty Nola-esque caper with Nola, Marcus, and Bridget. Roger hits a little close to Folly and Bloss and then declares that Dinah’s love for him will make their efforts to break them up useless. Meanwhile Hart declares he loves Dinah.

Nola and Bridget work on going through Bridget’s closet to see if she can deal with her closet and her life. Bridget: It’s “a big pile of maybe, a bigger pile of no, and not many yeses.” Now explain this to me. Why would anyone ever want Hart? I mean how does this guy get people to constantly have 2 women fighting over him. Dinah denies Hart could love her. Charles offers Griffin a fellowship to teach a political science for a semester at Springfield University. Jay and Marcus hang out. Did chariots have driver license requirements? Interesting Question. Roger shows up to beg Marcus to forgive him to save his marriage.

Holly wonders if Roger isn’t a little bit right about why they went after Roger. Roger makes a case that Marcus should forgive him. Dinah and Hart continue to talk about his relevation that he told her he loved her.

Bridget confesses to Nola that she wants Hart, but she’s afraid. Nola is very supportive. Bridget about Hart: “He walks into a room and I start to feel goofy… and then I see him with Peter and I think why not? Why not try to be a family.” Gillian tells her dad that her mom has been way out of line (which is kind of teenager like of her, sure Vivian didn’t act like Griffin staying would be Christmas morning, but she was perfectly polite). [Spoiler alert the woman Griffin hurt was her and she’s upset because Gilly is Griffin’s daughter and she doesn’t want anyone to know.] I don’t know why anyone would pick that African name over hearing him say Vivian. I might change my name to Vivian to hear him say that too me, he just rolls it through you. Dinah and Hart discuss what’s going on and then that bed is all too close.

Vivian asks Griffin to leave for her sake. Bloss have a heart to heart about their fertility issues. Dart starts to have sex for the first time.

Friday, February 2, 1996

Dinah wakes up in Hart’s bed the morning after. We Finally get back to the kidnapping. Alan has collected $10 million and is working with Buzz to offer it to Brent.

Lucy continues to play a part to survive and protect everyone. Alan insisted that Lucy be included before Buzz could object she wasn’t included. That’s why you never give up on Alan. Just when you give up on him he does something stand up like this.

Dinah and Hart are still in bed when Roger shows up. I wish Roger’s fear was that he’d lose Dinah, but it’s that he’d get caught stealing her money. Alan and Buzz work together which is always great.

Lucy works on picking a lock. Griffin comes in and joins Vivian and Gilly at their breakfast table. Vivian admits to Gilly that she and Marcus had an affair years ago. Dinah doesn’t regret sleeping with Hart, but isn’t sure what she wants to do from here.

Griffin comes to Marcus and tells him he wants to improve their relationship. Marcus having taken a backseat to everything else his entire life has no interest. Frank comes in and finds Reva. Frank tries to get the truth out of Reva. Frank: “Why doesn’t anyone ever tell me the truth?” Alan picks up the phone and Brent is there. He tells Alan he’s on A-M’s yacht. Buzz and Alan do a verbal dead drop.

Vivian tells Gilly about what happened between her and Griffin. Marcus explains that he doesn’t hate Griffin he just doesn’t know him and he wasn’t there when he needed him. Alan and Buzz work together and Buzz tackles Brent. Dinah tells Marcus about Hart and how good the sex was.

Marcus was OK with Dinah being with anyone other than Roger until he learns that she’s moving on with Hart. Hart sadly was using her – mostly – to get back at Roger. Brent tells Alan and Buzz they have to let him go. Alan-Michael and Lucy discover a bomb.

Final Brent Lawrence Terror Part 2

December 30, 2016

Picking up from the last post Brent Lawrence has Lucy. That’s the major storyline to me in this next section, but we get some great early Rabby and early Dart stuff. Also, Marcus is cleared, the Reva back from the dead custody fight is going, Matt is blackmailing Amanda into leaving Bloss alone over their experience in California with an escort service. Comment blocks below include clip description, quotes, and my comments.

Monday, January 22, 1996

Abby kisses Rick. Rick insists it’s a practice date. Abby thinks it’s more. Hart takes Dinah’s drink in face. Roger calls the station and tells him all about the Brent/Marian story. Brent hears Michelle and J and goes to investigate. Lucy hears them and yells for help.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQm_D9QjJsI (Part 1)

Brent grabs Lucy to silence her. A-M waits for Brent to control. Amanda offers support. A-M says that he doesn’t want to risk including Frank in his plan to rescue Lucy. Amanda says he has to include the cops. Alan shows up at the office to find out what’s going on. Michelle heard it, but not clearly and lets J talk her into it not being real. Then J makes up a ghost story to scare her. Brent approaches with a weapon, but decides they are not a threat when they make out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBl_NBYDOuU (Part 2)

Abby apologizes for kissing Rick, but he says it’s OK. Rick says he taught Michelle to dance. Abby ran off feeling embarrassed. Hart continues talking to Dinah about Roger. I’d say that neither Dinah nor Hart give a true portrait of Roger. They are both right and wrong. They do angry banter very well. Dinah calls Marcus and asks him to come to Towers. For reasons best known only to her, Gilly has decided to date her mom’s old lover. Holly and Fletcher arrive and overhear Roger. More great banter. Michelle and J continue to make out, but break apart when he starts reaching under her clothes. Brent overhears and rushes back to a hog-tied Lucy refreshed in his belief that every girl leads guys on and then backs off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPF1Gsky4Bw (Part 3)

Brent bring a knife to Lucy’s throat, but then pulls back not to ruin his plan. Brent tells Lucy how sick it made him to watch J and Michelle (who he doesn’t know). (Kind of made me a little sick too, seeing Michelle kiss someone else in her and Danny’s lighthouse). Alan offers to reach out to a top computer expert to help track Brent, but A-M doesn’t trust the offer. Brent video chats in with more threats. Frank plays an analyzed tape to see if it was Roger. Neither Holly nor Fletcher is 100% it’s Roger. I don’t know how they couldn’t be from the tape alone it’s definitely him. Holly about Roger: “He’s always using fake accents.” Roger stops by Spaulding and finds one of the packets Amanda had put together about Marian Crane. I’m really kind of surprised. Roger can be a jerk, but not when someone innocent’s life is on the line.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgPvzKmiTkA (Part 4)

Rick says he and Abby need to talk about the kiss. Abby shows back up in her Amish clothes. After spending the entire day with J, Michelle came back after dark. Michelle is upset that their date didn’t go well. Griffin feels put upon that Marcus doesn’t rush over to see him. Knowing about Lucy, Marcus is horrified that Roger is about to put out the story to endanger Lucy. (Actually Griffin your description of Roger sounds more than a little like you.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k05-b5nZx44 (Part 5)

Rick starts going off after J. Michelle drags him back. They have a short argument, but then come to terms. Michelle offers to watch a movie with Rick. Rick leaves to get more popcorn. Abby asks Michelle what happens. Michelle believes J’s garbage that it was her fault for leading him on and then pulling back. Cleary finally decides that instead of just taking guesses, they could do a voice print. Hart, Holly, and Fletcher decide to tape Roger and Cleary recommends they go down to the spy store to get equipment to tape it. Marcus tells Dinah she needs to find Roger and stop him from endangering Lucy. Griffin and Gilly speculate wrongly about Roger and Dinah.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bvBLShpZmc (Part 6)

Lucy manages to free herself of restraints. However, Lucy can’t get through the door. So Roger walks into Towers and nobody runs over and tries to get him to call and stop it? Rick and Michelle run across Roger’s WSPR news story. Brent sees himself on camera, just as J spots him makes the ID and yells.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noKgEf6sM58 (Part 7)

Tuesday, January 23, 1996

Around town people are watching the news story. OK if Roger didn’t know about Lucy this makes more sense. Lucy works on getting the door open.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn2lLoj0PJA (Part 8)

J tackles Brent, but the Mall Cop believes Brent when he accuses J of stealing his wallet and Brent slips away. Michelle said she dropped J off at Springfield Mall and the Bauers have the TV on to watch the movie. This is dovetailing really well. Alan and Amanda try to stop A-M from running off and ripping out Roger’s heart when he learns Roger’s news story might be endangering Lucy. Lucy gets the door partly open and is met by a combination lock and tries to think what the combination might be.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpJDjunpRR8 (Part 9)

Abby volunteers that she saw Det. Cutter and Marian Crane the night she was in the hospital and Rick and her went for a walk. Rick insists she has to tell the police. Actually I don’t think Roger would have played the story if he’d known about Lucy. He might be telling the truth. I thought it was out of character that he did. Roger protests he didn’t know about Lucy and says he wouldn’t have done it. Nick and Susan show up and support A-M. The date of the rape was the combination. Lucy gets into the room and gets on the computer. “Faith comes into our lives on four legs…” She gives proof it’s her, but the tranmission is cut off “he’s holding me at….”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_E59gvEseg (Part 10)

The chief demands to know who told. Cleary confesses she’s the one who told Roger. This time Frank doesn’t let her off the hook. J was dragged in and Nola showed up. J tells Nola that he’d spotted Brent Lawrence. J swears on his car that he’s telling the truth. Nick and Susan talk A-M down from despair. Brent catches Lucy and freaks out. Brent announces he has to kill her and in desperation she hugs him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7v9GwI44HI (Part 11)

J tells Frank and the Detective Levy everything. They believe him and Nola is proud of him. Michelle and Abby show up and Michelle apologizes to J. Abby tells Frank that she was Det. Cutter and Marian Crane together at the dock which helps confirm Brent’s role. Frank forgives Cleary. Holly is set up to record Roger. Holly pulls Roger away to get her recording. Lucy tries to talk Brent into thinking he convinced her that his view on what happened was right.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3gNdv-XWJM (Part 12)

Dinah goes storming into her and Roger’s apartment upset that everyone blamed Roger when all he was doing was trying to help her friend. Frank shows up and tells A-M about what happened at the mall. A-M assumes Brent caught Lucy, but he didn’t. Lucy says what Brent wants to hear that he didn’t rape her.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fY5_arp6ctc (Part 13)

Frank tries to time out how far out Brent was holding Lucy from the mall. Lucy keeps repeating she’ll do whatever it takes to survive. Hart and Marcus talk about Dinah’s inability to see Roger’s crimes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MnMwcEZlig (Part 14)

Wednesday, January 24, 1996

Alan returns to the house he bought Reva. Alan is upset thinking Roger might have cost Alan Alan-Michael. Reva comes in bubbling with happiness about Marah and Shayne and Josh and Alan lashes out. Roger deposits some of Dinah’s money in an account in only his name (by a guy trying to do some kind of accent I think). Holly and Fletch show up at Roger and Dinah’s apartment – Penthouse A- saying them have proof Roger set up Marcus (which he totally did).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRLtIyh_yjg (Part 15)

Dinah,Holly, and Fletcher keep talking through her front door. Hart and Marcus continue to talk about Dinah. We drop in on Gilly and Griffith’s date (which considering his prior relationship with her mother is kind of gross on both their parts). Hamp is welcoming guests and since Ross is running late, Amanda and Blake end up sitting side by side at the bar. Reva understood Alan’s attack and is very supportive of him. Alan won’t let it go though accusing Reva of being more interested in Josh despite what she says. Meanwhile Josh is upset about Marah, but Annie questions whether he’s more concerned about Marah or Reva?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBt4bP-02dE (Part 16)

Reva pleas with Alan to understand that she needs to be there with her kids and claims it has nothing to do with Josh (Liar!). Josh denies that it’s Reva’s he’s concerned about. Annie and Josh are romantic together. Marah sneaks down and takes Annie’s book to add to her Annie collection. Amanda comes out straight and says that she wants Ross and will do what it takes to get him. Amanda tells Blake that Ross knows Amanda wants him and that she’d already dropped a fur coat with nothing underneath for Ross’ benefit. Holly and Fletcher shows Dinah the evidence. Dinah supports Roger until he hears the recording of Roger telling Holly he can’t get her out of his system.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Namby74Wdw (Part 17)

Ross shows up excitedly and announces Marcus is cleared. Roger walks back in and expects Dinah to back him, but not this time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkFhX_jv3iQ (Part 18)

Dinah spits out that Roger set up Marcus. Dinah faces up to the fact that Roger still loves Holly and calls him out on it. Hamp saw the set up evidence and says he’s dropping the theft charges. Griffin: “There are other ways than direct confrontation.” Josh makes a move on Annie who asks about the kids first and as usual Josh is wrong, they aren’t asleep. Alan comes down and finds that Reva is setting up a seduction. AND this is where Jeva turn truly evil in their actions, Reva and Josh could have walked away from Annie and Alan at this point and no harm, no foul, but no they both swear they love the one they are with severely messing them up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVanjavteks (Part 19)

Amanda calls for a toast in Ross’ honor. Roger desperately tries to drive away Dinah’s doubts, but this time Dinah has it. Sadly Roger just sounds sickening.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFEvKB0UF6U (Part 20)

We get an Annie/Josh and Reva/Alan montage. Dinah storms off while Hart watches from a distance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23gUWSRK1q0 (Part 21)

Thursday, January 25, 1996

We start with a nice exterior shot of the Land of Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams house. Annie is feeling great because she thinks Josh was making love to her out of desire for her and not for the desire to hurt Reva. If Josh would have come clean right now, they wouldn’t have broken her. Alan is having similar feelings about Reva on their morning after. Matt and Vanessa are also waking up in bed together. Meanwhile Blake is awake and upset and angrily wakes up Ross. Note: This is a lovely bit showing Ross and Blake’s bedroom.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWs0ZW1tbEo (Part 22)

More bedroom at beginning. Blake tells Ross Amanda told her about the time Amanda had striped in his office. Amanda is alone at the Spaulding Mansion and not feeling too good either. Amanda has a her and Ross fantasy. Alan asks Reva to try to make peace and get shared custody. Reva agrees to try, but before she makes it to the Land of Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams Marah’s therapist calls with a sudden opening and rather than wait until next week Josh takes her in leaving Annie there to deal with Reva.

https://youtu.be/dyoEGZrMZis (Part 23)

Ross is not properly contrite and gets mad when he feels Blake has unjustly accused him. Reva actually plays nice, but when she finds Marah is at a therapist (Dr. Julian) at Cedars she starts to storm off, but Annie stops her. Alan meets with lawyer who withstood Alan’s attempts to buy her off. After Ross storms off, Blake rushes to Vanessa and Matt’s interrupting them in the bedroom to beg Vanessa for advice.

https://youtu.be/mnK37N4DilY (Part 24)

Annie and Reva continue to argue about Marah. Ross goes to Amanda to find out why she wound up Blake and pushes Nettie aside to find Amanda in the Spaulding study in her skivvies while a dressmaker measured her.

https://youtu.be/8P2dqdNkCDk (Part 25)

Blake tells Vanessa what Amanda did, dropping her mink coat in front of Ross. Vanessa: “Well that’s not very original.” (One of the most famous Guiding Light scenes is Vanessa doing that to Ross.) Madame Elliot is the designer. Ross tears into Amanda. I really can’t believe the best way to have the session with Marah is to have Josh sitting there staring at her the whole time.

4:39 Marah’s therapy session

https://youtu.be/SH7LHzmfd9U (Part 26)

Reva bursts in and Marah leaves with the doctor while Josh and Reva tear into each other. I actually don’t think the beeper thing is a bad idea, but the fact is Reva is WAY more concerned over what she wants rather than what’s good for Marah. AND then Josh makes it about himself and loses sight of the kids himself. Ross defends his wife to Amanda and tells her to back off.

https://youtu.be/Iw_REFgOxaI (Part 27) – 123

Annie and Josh bring Marah home and she’s still upset. Marah is about the only soap child they show the effects on them. This period was when Reva wore the prettiest clothes. I just don’t see Vanessa ever wearing those scruffy tennis shoes. This must have been her midlife crisis. Amanda does have a pretty big secret. Not one that fits with the character of Amanda, but it’s a pretty big one.

Friday, January 26, 1996

Blake and Vanessa discuss her issues with Amanda. Matt was also part of the secret. Really Amanda, no way Matt believes he’s going to out you and not out himself. We finally get back to fact that Lucy was kidnapped way back on January 1st. Don’t worry, Lucy isn’t stockholming, she’s scheming.

Brent does a great job describing LAM’s love, but Lucy tries to convince him it isn’t true. I still don’t understand why Lucy was ever snowed by Marion enough to think she was her BEST friend. Blake really does have a self esteem problem and I guarantee Amanda didn’t mean give Ross a child. Matt assures Amanda that she has a lot more to lose than he does, that his relationship with Vanessa wouldn’t be hurt by it.

Someone really should have taken the time to push Amanda’s bangs out of the way, it looks terrible. Alex comes in and is surprised that Amanda has the safe open. Alex couldn’t. Amanda explains she changed the combination. Oh Amanda, you don’t show somebody the original you’re blackmailing someone with. He could grab it and take off. Ross and Blake show up at the doctor’s office for their appointment with Dr. Sedwick. Lucy seems to convince Brent to leave Alan-Michael out of his plans and video chats in to tell Alan-Michael she doesn’t love him, the rape never happened and she wants to be with Brent.

Alan-Michael realizes that Lucy was lying to get Brent out of town and away from A-M. Amanda and Alex fight about control at Spaulding Enterprises. Blake and Ross both get clean bills of health for fertility. She think Blake’s stress levels is what’s causing their issues. Dr. Sedwick suggests Blake talks to Dr. Ames, a psychiatrist. Frankly I think it sounds like a good idea.

Bloss talks about other options to therapy when Blake resists therapy. He suggests taking another cruise like their honeymoon. Blake is excited, but then Ross suggests they need to stop trying to get pregnant to get Blake to a better place first. Matt returns home considering telling Vanessa who is all adjutated about Amanda and how she is going after Ross. She tells Matt that any man who would have anything to do with Amanda was dirt. (Matt, who was involved with Amanda, thinks Gulp!)

Alex calls Vanessa and tells her that Matt left his magazine there showing the house that he is going to build for Amanda. When Vanessa asks him about it Matt admits it’s a lie. Vanessa asks why was he really there. Amanda goes into Spaulding Enterprises and is being very supportive of Alan-Michael. Brent contacts Alan-Michael by chat and tells him to come alone. Brent is going to call A-M at the phone booth on 5th Street where Patrick Cutter was killed.

A-M: “Do not call the police because you’re going to be risking Lucy’s life!”

Amanda: “But what about yours?”

A-M: “My life isn’t worth anything without her.”

Matt tells Vanessa that he just told Amanda to back off and that Amanda covered for Blake. Vanessa is thrilled Matt is so wonderful. Brent comes in and tells a waiting Lucy that they have a celebration to attend before they leave town. A-M goes down to the Spaulding Enterprises parking garage and the man Frank left to keep tabs on A-M reports in when he gets into his car and leaves. A-M is wearing a cloth cap that does him no justice. He’s parked on level 5 and is driving a nondescript new sedan – I can’t tell brand.

New Years 1990

January 1, 2016

Warning the sound on this is clear but VERY low. Crank your speakers all the way up.

Capture1

This year the place to celebrate New Years is Lakeland Country Club. Sadly I don’t have a lot of this, but I’ll look for more and in the meantime enjoy this clip.

Alexandra and Roger are still together. Roger is cheating with Mindy, but Alex doesn’t know. I always thought Alex being THIS concerned with Mindy rang false, but it of course was part of the build up to make the betrayal worse.

Alan-Micheal found out that Blake had lied and she wasn’t really pregnant which was the main reason he had married her when he did. He still feels rather protective to Blake and that’s why he offers to be the one to leave his family home.

Holly is mad at Alex because Alex had a plan to use Holly to check Roger’s fidelity. I can’t remember why he didn’t. I’m not sure if this was before Roger’s love turned to resentment for being constantly emasculated or if Roger was already with Mindy or if he knew it was a trap. Anyone else remember? Ross broke up with Holly when he found out. Wow! Blake sure looks awful. The turban doesn’t really suit Holly either.

Eve Guthrie and Ed Bauer’s Engagement Party

September 30, 2015
Michelle toasting Ed and Eve

Michelle toasting Ed and Eve

This episode aired –  October 24, 1994.

Several stories going on today and most of them aren’t part of the party umbrella. Matt is accused of some crimes and can’t tell where he was because he and Vanessa were having a secret affair.

Michelle gives a toast. Sadly those good feelings she’s talking about won’t arrive until 1999.

“So I want to make a toast to Ed and Eve, my dad and to all those good feelings our family is going to have.”

Someone spiked Ed’s drink. As a recovering alcoholic this was a terrible thing. Alan made an entrance to announce his return to Springfield. Dr. Bauer seems a bit formal for the brother of his ex-father-in-law whose been his neighbor for a good 20 years. This does bring up something I don’t get. They always kept all this alcohol around Ed where it would be easy to slip or make a mistake. While do they do that?

Commercial break after opening credits contains an ad for the Roger Thorpe videotape. This and Reva’s counterpart were the only authorized sales of Guiding Light footage until the Soap Classics releases. Watch it here:
https://glmanny.wordpress.com/2011/02/13/roger-thorpe-the-scandal-years

Wow! I would have said if Ed had a problem with Alan it would have traced back to his destruction of Hope rather than that stupid affair that Alan had with Rita while she was involved with Ed – they weren’t all that into each other anyway. Even

For some reason soap hopping soap star Marcy Walker failed to click as Tangie (maybe it was the stupid name?). This was their latest hail Mary pass they are in the early stages of an Alan-Michael-Tangie-Alan triangle. It’s really too bad because Alan-Michael truly believed in Alan and was truly working towards a positive relationship and Alan pulls this.

Really for as smart as they normally play Matt, if he said he’d been to the movies, he should have picked one currently playing at a local movie theater. I think Matt is waiting for Vanessa to step up, but she doesn’t. Gentlemanly Matt doesn’t out her.

Time to get sick over Ed and Eve while he pretends she’s his only true love who has “changed me so completely. You’ve changed me and I can’t ever go back to what I was. I am a complete mess without you.”

The back of Blake’s dress reminds me of a peace sign without the circle. Oh, Eleni you haven’t been to very many parties at the Country Club if you think that this party breakup is anything but typical. No party ever goes well there.

12:00 in another great chance to see Ross-Ed as best friends rather than just hear that they are. “a couple of swallows” wouldn’t an alcoholic know after it hit his tongue? I am proud of Ed to want to go to an AA meeting. I think this might be his biggest hero moment ever. Really don’t understand Ed’s extreme reaction to Alan’s very existence. It wasn’t like this when Alan left.

I think Matt’s story is stupid. He was being stupid if he didn’t know that someone “influential in that town” was married. Plus, his father’s sister was had a brother-in-law (Mike Bauer) who is one of the top lawyers in the country. Wouldn’t asking for help make much sense? Plus, why not cop to being with a woman without naming who. Once that much came out he might as well. So Matt saved Marina’s life too? Maybe she was injured in some of these “life savings” that could be what’s wrong with her later.

“I haven’t had a chance to tell Eve about the drink yet.” – Yes, Ed you were only completely alone talking about what had just happening in a semi-private hallway.

This is so typical Blake. “You know I can’t believe that Eve treats him for a gun shot wound and in matter of days he manages to drag his sorry but out of bed and come over here and crash MY party.”

Ross: “Last thing I need is for you to turn into Paul Revere and go through the town of Springfield warning all the good folks.”

Actually I do agree Alan didn’t meant to “hurt” Blake he meant to stop Phillip from marrying her at all costs.

Fletch does have some good lines “while the caviar is hitting the fan.”

I’m really sorry Alan showed up at Ed’s party. It was truly typical Alan, but it hurt Ed and I don’t think A-M would have stood by like that. While A-M wanted to support his father, he wouldn’t have hurt his Uncle Ed like that.

Bauer BBQ 1996

July 6, 2015

It’s the year when Ed has abandoned Rick and Michelle to move to Africa. Sadly rather than try to throw the Bauer BBQ by himself, Rick has cancelled it. So this is the year of the Surprise BBQ! I don’t understand though why everyone decided to wait to suprise Rick after dark – which would put it somewhere around 9:30 pm CT – when the BBQ is always a noon event. What has everyone been doing? Did they decide to go to the parade this year or something? OH! Earlier that day was the big demonstration where Alan Spaulding tried to blow up 5th Street. Another inexplicable thing is after the BBQ is over the same exact group of people head over to Towers. I don’t understand this timeline at all, but that’s how Springfield rolled in 1996.

Rick suprised by Bauer BBQ 1996

Michelle is definitely showing this is Rebecca Budig’s version. Marcus is sulking to his father about how he isn’t making any progress with Dehlia. Dehlia is going to the fireworks with J. Chamberlain instead. That was sure a spooky sound effect at the beginning of the opening. I remember this theme, but not that sound effect. (Jumped ahead to the next one spooky sound was there too. It must have been a thing in 1996, but must not have lasted long.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EtWgvab6u4 (Part 1)

Alan-Michael is convinced he saw a light in the lighthouse. Lucy isn’t so sure. They are married now and the reason someone being in the lighthouse upsets Lucy and A-M is back at New Year’s Eve they were both being held captive there by madman Brett Lawrence. While J is out of the room let me take advantage of the time to say just how much I resent them changing Anthony James’s name to J. They built an entire storyline including a viewer call in vote about naming him when he was born and now they don’t even give him a name, he’s a single letter. We have some nice early Rick-Abby scenes as she is preparing to move into the Bauer garage apartment. The young people are having a beach party. Michelle is still moping about not dating her cousin anymore. J. knew Dehlia was using him. That’s kind of great. I wish they had played J.’s powers of observation more. This was a great little analysis scene they could have played more of them and archeologist references are always cool. It hurts to see the lighthouse messed up like that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6_8fi94XHY (Part 2)

Lucy and Alan-Michael find a kerosene lantern in the lighthouse. They can clearly see the beach where Michelle’s beach party is. It’s close to the lighthouse. Rick had given up on the BBQ when all of his friends and family show up. Abby had worked with Lillian and gotten Grandma Bert’s recipes from Michelle to organize it all. Rick reports that Ed did call in that morning. Nice catch. Phillip is fairly newly returned and wasn’t in town for Vanessa and Matt’s wedding so he doesn’t know how Nola accidentally food poisoned everybody at the reception. This really does underline how far Annie’s life fell within a year. Here she is a happy, welcome member of town, but in just a year she will be the town pariah. It really makes 1997 when she gate crashes in an almost identical outfit much more poignant. I really love how Rick always translates for Abby whether he’s talking to her directly or not. Bill is bullied over Matt.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIyxJq2KMR4 (Part 3)

The Grants have to leave and Phillip pulls Rick aside. They talk about his quest to find out which family member was behind the judge’s insistence that part of Rick and Phillip’s probation be that they had to be out of Springfield. Alan-Michael and Lucy show up and spill 1. That someone was at the lighthouse 2. A-M had spied on Ed one year and knew the exact recipe of Bauer Burgers. Sadly the Zachary Smith aka Angel Boy story is beginning. Zachary knew Vanessa has a potentially fatal disease and is interfering to make sure it is diagnosed. This genetic ailment would drive stories for years until they decided to do their best to make Dinah 100% bad guy before she and Hart left the canvas. The actor later said the storyline had ended up playing out much differently than originally scripted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msL2QkJGwIs (Part 4)

Gilly invites Griffin to the fireworks. This storyline is going to revolve around the fact that Gilly’s mother Vivian had been involved with Griffin around the time Gilly was conceived. Vivian is trying to keep this quiet both because she has firmly put her activist days behind her in favor of being a society blueblood and because she’s not sure that her husband really is Gilly’s father. Phillip is working on the hand crank ice cream churn. Phillip and Lucy have a really nice conservation, too bad part of what Phillip is doing is working Lucy for information trying to root out who betrayed him. Rick decides Vanessa does need that MRI and tells her so. This bit where Angel Boy just talks as if he’s vaguely reporting and acts like he is or isn’t getting an answer that we can’t hear is a regular part of the storyline.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrTyF5MV49o (Part 5)

We get a last shot at all the stories under fireworks with Marcus seeing Dehlia with J. and Griffin telling Gilly he’d had an affair with her mother lit more fireworks for tomorrow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFwhifBNt3A&spfreload=1 (Part 6)

Episode Break

Phillip is up to something making secret phone calls. Rick looks terrible with his hair slicked like that. Blake must be pregnant with the Miniature Marlers. Dueling Rogers. Too bad what I like and dislike about Roger are evenly split. The nice emotional Roger is in restraints, but his strength and cleverness is all in the tuxedo version.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5NsXBCJRIw (Part 7)

This is when Hart and Dinah were working together to get revenge against Roger. Roger deserved it, but some of their actual interactions with Roger were hard to watch. Gilly reacts to Griffin’s revelation that he’d had an affair with her mother.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H_atxn5O5I (Part 8)

Abby is set up by the idea of family members fighting against each other. Actually I think Abby has a very good point. Phillip shows up to talk to Lucy at the yacht after A-M has to run into the office. Let’s see Phillip you showed up at A-M’s wedding and tried to make it all about you. For the record, if you’re getting as tired of Phillip’s probing as I am, Alan was the one responsible for the out of state probation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTEdTEKVkL0 (Part 9)

Blake shows up to visit Roger in the hospital. Hart feels guilty for what they’ve done to Roger. I think both Dinah and Hart make some good and true points about Roger. Marcus is still mooning over Dehlia. Lucy is a lot smarter in a lot of ways than Phillip thinks.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7EIHOnkeEM (Part 10)

I just love watching Rabby together. Marcus and Gilly have a nice soul searching session.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkNVQcjlE_o (Part 11)

I know it sounds like A-M is being paranoid, but he’s 90% right. He just doesn’t know Phillip has revenge on his mind instead of power.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DILLV_fu40A (Part 12)

Blake gets back to Towers. Lucy meets Zachary again. Roger arrives at the penthouse will Dinah and Hart in his bed after Blake unbinds him at the hospital.

Beverlee McKinsey’s Last Day

January 14, 2015

This story could be called Beverlee McKinsey strikes back. While it is an important day for Alex, her plan to separate Nick and Mindy has worked but Nick is still rejects her as his birth mother. Frankly I don’t blame him, Alex has been pretty horrible to him since she made her “discovery” and degraded Nick’s parents who he loved and gave him a supportive and very happy childhood. But of more of the importance of the day is for the actress not the character.

A typical soap opera actor or actress has a 13 week option in their contract. That means that every 13 weeks the show has the opportunity to fire the actor without consequences or violation of the contract. This is never reciprocal, unless the show lets them go or they and TPTB make a deal to release the contract, the actor has to stay for the entire length of the contract. Beverlee McKinsey had negotiated the rare exception to that, she also had the chance to leave without consequences every 6 months. So Beverlee went on her annual vacation and never came back. It was a huge event across the industry and fandom. Below are her final scenes.

Here’s a later interview with McKinsey from Soap Opera Digest where she discusses leaving:
http://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/wanted-gls-beverlee-mckinsey-0

Nick McHenry is typing in the Spaulding study. Alexandra had tricked Mindy into thinking Nick had deliberately left her at the altar (he hadn’t he was late because of a set up by Roger on Alex’s orders). Alex is still trying to convince Nick to take her place as his biological mother (which she is) by defaming his adoptive family who raised him with lots of love and support and are now dead. No one ever said Alex wasn’t stubborn…or self-destructive. Alex had told Nick he was her son before, but now she’s going to lay everything out and what Mindy did.

Actually I think everything Alex did wasn’t out of love, it was out of hate. Alex hated Mindy WAY more than she loved Nick.

Nick: “Ugh! I,I,I  is it always about you? Is it always about Alexandra Spaulding?”

Me: “Yes, yes it is. I love her, but it almost always is.”

Oh, please Alex, it wasn’t some mysterious sense. It was the fact Nick looked exactly like Lujack. You didn’t like Lujack at first. You didn’t “sense” anything.  Mindy was partly being selfish when she changed the parentage results, but also Nick was much happier before this came out even if you do eventually build a relationship.

Somehow Alex and Nick are in the Spaulding Mansion study and Eve comes in. After Nick accepted it was over with Mindy (right before she came back), Nick got involved Eve again who then went crazy. Roger actually was plotting and used Eve to break up Nick and Mindy on Alex’s orders. That’s exactly what Alex did. Alex was behind both keeping Nick away from the wedding and lying to Mindy so she’d drive out of town. Sadly Alex didn’t think she had gotten back at Mindy and still thinks they aren’t even. If A-M believes this Roger is the bad guy Alex would never do this stuff, his memory is VERY selective. Alex isn’t even covering well here. I don’t know where Alex gets off blaming Roger though, he did exactly what Alex asked.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtT7Vxkrq8g

Alex and Nick are talking. He says he can’t feel for her now. Nick makes the obvious connection between Brandon and his trying to break Eric and Alex up and Alex trying to break up Nick and Mindy. Alex stutters how it isn’t at all the same when it exactly is. Alex goes over to Vanessa’s. Vanessa: “I made a small mistake…and he says he’s going to walk away from what we have.” That right there sums up Fletcher perfectly, that’s what he does. Alex turns everything Vanessa she will need to temporarily take over as President/CEO. She nearly has one more run-in with Nick and watches out the window as Nick pulls away.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7xM6UN2FcA

I’m not 100% this is the right order, but I think so.

New Year’s 1995-1996 Masquerade Ball

January 3, 2015

It’s an incredible New Year’s in Springfield where almost everyone his headed to a masquerade ball at the Lakeland Country Club and the Marian Crane story is coming to a head with Nick McHenry’s fiancee Susan Bates in a coma, but knowing Marian is to blame and meant to attack Lucy. The Reva returned to town from the dead storyline reaches a crescendo. Blake and Amanda’s fight over Ross hits high gear. Plus this includes one of the most defining moments of Rebecca Budig’s Michelle.

These dates aren’t given on the YouTube channel and finding day to day reports back then is problematic, so these are dates given on several assumptions. There is currently no easily available source to double check them. The dates given are coming from the known date of the distinctive clip episode which is known to have originally aired on Christmas day 1995. From there I’ve followed the episode breaks to divide episodes (these sometimes include clear opening or closing credits and are other times based on knowledge of how soap episodes are structured. It also based on what the included ads say about what days episodes would air and a 1995-1996 calendar. The numbers the parts don’t match the clip titles that they were loaded with but are their order in this post. For each link below description and comments on that particular piece are made, followed by the actual link.

Rick and Abby at NYE Ball 1995

Rick and Abby at NYE Ball 1995

Tuesday, December 26, 1995

Roger is excited his stock is going well and so is Dinah until she discovers a suspiciously fat credit card bill. Lillian and Annie are discussing the Masquerade Ball. Josh goes to Ross Marler for legal help protecting the kids and Reva goes to see Vanessa in case she’ll listen to her side of the story and help.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3wvVG8w9r0 (Part 1)

Annie and Rick talk about if Annie’s and Josh’s marriage will take place. Reva uses Vanessa’s past with Dinah to make her point. Vanessa is bested by facts, but stubbornly sticks to Josh’s side. Sadly I think Marah did need help and she never got it. Ross tries to talk sense to Josh (which almost always an impossible task).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSwlRSyknsY (Part 2)

Matt comes back to give a not too receptive Bridget some big brotherly advice about Hart. Hart stops by the Fifth Street Diner. Buzz: “Well, Son of a …..Thorpe is back.” Blake met Hart at the diner, gives him a hard time for not keeping in touch and catches him up on her life. Roger makes sure Dinah can’t read the details of the credit card bill. Vanessa argues that Reva needs to give her children space. Vanessa tells Reva they found out that she was alive via Alex’s tape of her dancing in the diner with Buzz.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbMNUnANFu4 (Part 3)

Ross urges Josh to get an annulment as fast as possible. Blake and Hart continue their talk.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqIKzD3H6U8 (Part 4)

Bridget continues her argument with Matt while Bridget sets up Company for the day which she is currently running. Bridget: “Dylan…(voice break) Dylan was different.” Hart stops by and wants to be friends again with Bridget. Annie gave Rick a friendly hug which Abby spies and is heart broken over. Rick does a comedy dance number in the hospital. Lillian and Annie are clowning around trying to make Abby excited about the masquerade ball, Abby the girl who freaked out over masks a couple of months ago at Halloween. Rick asks Abby to go with him to the ball. Buzz: “As I live and gag, it must be unwanted customer day.” Reva charges into the diner to give Buzz what for for exposing her. Ironically Buzz indignantly asks Reva how she could leave town when she has kids here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrjhbNxQ69U (Part 5)

Apparently it’s drop a pop culture reference day. Blake was waiting for Ross to get back from court in his office. They are trying to get pregnant, but no luck yet. Blake shares her hopes that she and Hart will grow closer now they agree about Roger. Ross makes a Father Knows Best joke Bud and Kitten. Talk turns to Josh and Reva. Buzz and Reva make up and Buzz makes a Lazarus joke. Hart asks Bridget to the ball and says he will get the costumes. Dinah and Roger spy on Bridget and Hart and disagree if Hart is trying to get in a relationship with his son, Peter, or into Bridget’s bed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB–6_9OjGI (Part 6)

Dinah actually does give Bridget a good piece of advice, but since their rivalry is already started Bridget won’t listen. Dinah: “Now what would I want with a two timer like Hart who’d come onto you after kissing me.” Good advice Dinah, wish you’d followed it yourself. Hart always does have to have two women on a string normally one is closer at a time, but the other one he keeps interested. Roger overhears Dinah bragging about Hart’s recent come ons to her. Matt came home and urged Vanessa to skip her fitting for her costume (that night?). Josh stops by the hospital to reassure Annie and drops the bomb that they need to get an annulment.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0_kNwDlQyk (Part 7)

Michelle and Bill at the Ball 1995

Michelle and Bill at the Ball 1995

Wednesday, December 27, 1995

Roger overhears Dinah talk about Hart’s recent bad behavior. Frank Cooper is a beat cop sitting at the diner with his partner Nell Cleary and Detective Levy. Frank wants to have a confidential police conversation in the diner. He and Nell have been trying to solve Det. Patrick Cutter’s murder, they feel they have evidence that points them to Marian Crane, instead of former prime suspect Marcus Williams. Lucy and A-M are telling Marian the news about Susan’s reaction which might mean she’s recovering from the attack. Lucy still thinks of Marian as a friend. A-M is thinking Marian attacked Susan (which she did).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHNNlGz7MXY (Part 8)

CBS soaps Guiding Light and As the World Turns won’t be on air for New Years ad. Brent psychotically hears his mother’s voice telling him how worthless he is when he hears Susan is waking up. Lucy checks on Marian after she runs out of the office. Frank continues to push the case. Cutter had written Mar before he died. They think it was Marcus Williams, but what if it was Marian Crane?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8n2_yaw94w (Part 9)

Roger suggests Hart’s behavior was because he was still trying to get to Roger (which he was despite his attraction to Dinah). Dinah accuses Roger of all people of wearing rose colored glasses. Nice transition from crashing glassware to crashing glassware. Det. Cutter HAD been “dating” Marian because he suspected her of murder and it was part of his investigation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnAs3tODRfQ (Part 10)

Bridget’s speech references Nola’s speech from years ago shortly before she decided to land Kelly. Nola should really commiserate. Marian called to find out Susan’s condition and they tell her. Now you know why they passed HIPA. Frank and Nell shows up and try to trap Marian into spilling about Cutter’s death.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQzQMhw8unc (Part 11)

Nell compliments Marian on always looking so perfect (which she does). Marian is rattled. Lucy and A-M are talking to Nick who is frustrated the doctors know so little about Susan’s condition.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsQtG0cF84c (Part 12)

Hart and Roger confront each other over the state of their relationship and what they’ve done. A-M and Nick try to convince Lucy that Marian was the one who has attacked her and Susan. Buzz is looking at Christmas cards and Eleni points out Nadine hasn’t contacted them. Buzz: “I’m in my blue period. I hope to get out of this into my impressionistic period where I can let everything out.” Brent argues with his mother’s disembodied voice.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP3V7PTUo8c (Part 13)

Nola and Bridget are talking. Nola tries to cheer Bridget up, but seems to say everything wrong until he finally talks her around. Nola is right it was her attitude and personality was what attracted Quint. Nola has gotten Bridget an appointment for a makeover at Salon de Artiste. Roger still wants Hart to come around and for them to connect with Peter. Hart isn’t having any. Nadine’s canvas wrapped body floats up to the surface of the lake.

Frank and Nell are staking out Marian. The ball begins at the Lakeland Country Club. Alan-Michael is dressed as Zorro and Lucy is his senorita. I understand the red sash matches Lucy’s accent color, but as Zorro wore black to disappear into the night, it really doesn’t fit the outfit. Lucy and A-M continue to discuss their strong and opposite views about Marian. Alexandra arrives and says Alan isn’t welcome at the ball, but Reva is at home getting ready.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttSWZURsInA (Part 15)

Alan calls Reva out that she wants to go to the ball because of Josh. Alexandra seems to be Queen Elizabeth. Josh and Annie are a nondescript antebellum southern belle and her beau. Lucy worries if Marian IS guilty that it can be put down to her poor judgment of people. Marian really has an unbelievably beautiful apartment. Look at that stylized arch into the alcove and that amazing windowseat. How much is she paying for that?  Marian realizes Frank and Nell are staking out her place.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwFG_hYRNOI (Part 16)

We find Rick and Michelle in the Bauer Living Room which is still decorated for Christmas. Rick is teasing Michelle and makes a Beverly Hillbillies joke. Rick: “Are you going as Ellie Mae Clampett?” Michelle doesn’t like the colonial miss (maybe Betsy Ross?) outfit Ed picked out for her. Ed is right though the Betsy Ross dress IS Michelle. Rachel Miner’s Michelle and Joie Lenz’s Michelle would totally wear that and love it. It’s only Rebecca Budig’s Michelle that’s so uncomfortable with herself that she would object. Michelle gets an idea for Abby. Reva insists she just wants to dance at the party when Josh’s restraining order arrives.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIj7kBI7mqg (Part 17)

Josh’s restraining order temporarily breaks Reva’s spirit. Alan urges her to run away with him. Annie agrees to annulling Josh and Annie’s marriage. Oh, Josh and Annie are supposed to be Katherine and Healthcliff from Wuthering Heights. Those are TERRIBLE costumes to be that, but it’s fitting because they were crazy and dysfunctional, too. A-M convinces Lucy that she needs some distance in her relationship with Marian. Marian thinks she’s outsmarted Frank, which admittedly isn’t that hard. Frank is probably the best community service-beat cop that the world has ever seen, he’s even pretty good while he’s chief of detectives, but he’s awful when it comes to actually solving a crime. Heck, he should bring even THIS version of Michelle along and she could do better than he could.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpJkXww9Elo (Part 18)

Michelle decides to help Abby win Rick. Reva decides she needs to fight Josh for the kids rather than run with Alan. Reva declares she’s going to stand up for who she is at the ball. Frank returns to the docks to see if there is something they missed as his mother’s floated to the surface body lurks nearby.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DdAUqtm8p0 (Part 19)

Ed is George Washington and Rick a generic colonial guy – I’m going with Paul Revere (both costumes WAY better than Josh and Annie’s by the way) when Abby and Michelle come down the stairs. Rick makes a going bald joke to Ed which goes over about as well as you’d expect. Rick’s wig is great though. I could get used to him in that look. This Michelle of course wears a pathetic bid for attention that didn’t really even look good in the original let alone a sad copy. I only feel sorry for the subsequent Michelles that they know photos of Michelle in THIS exist out there. She’s supposed to be Madonna. Rick supports her feelings in front of Ed, but what about how she’ll feel when she makes a spectacle of herself at the ball? I’m guessing she’s glad that Reva, Brent Lawrence, and Amanda and Blake all cause diversions. We get an extended Lady in Red version of Reva getting ready, but we don’t see her all dressed up yet. Alan can wear a suit like nobody’s business, but he doesn’t wear a tux all that well. Buzz is Napoleon (with apparently one too many of his brandies) and almost falls down the stairs in front of Eleni’s Josephine. A disguised Brent leaves under police scrutiny while they watch a dummy in the window.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvsW8aS53hA (Part 20)

Lillian appears to be a nondescript medieval woman. Matt is a southern gentleman (turns out it’s supposed to be Rhett Butler) and Bill is a Civil War Confederate solider.  Reva and Alan come in and both Josh and Annie swallow their gum.

Friday, December 29, 1995

Nick is at Susan’s bedside. Holly and Fletcher arrive to visit Susan. Frank unknowingly discovers Nadine’s corpse.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBMqIR5TeXs (Part 22)

Alan and Reva and even Josh and Annie continue to make spectacles of themselves. I think Blake is dressed as Mae West and Ross is just in a tux. Nope I’m wrong they are Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire (still think that is a FAR better Mae West costume than it is a Ginger Rogers). A-M is concerned that Reva is there. Roger and Dinah come dressed as Julius Cesar and Cleopatra. Hart and Bridget show dressed up in 1920s flapper style, my guess maybe as Daisy and the Great Gatsby.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKf7q-XQNVg (Part 23)

Vanessa, continuing her Gone with the Wind theme, is wearing Scarlet’s green curtain dress (which is by far the best and most identifiable costume we see all night, bar Gilly’s show girl which is also well done and clear) which makes Matt Rhett Butler. Matt tries again to talk sense to Bridget. Fletcher tries to talk Nick into coming back to the Journal. Nick tries to explain the concept of sticking with someone you love to Fletcher to whom it seems a foreign language. A-M asks Reva follow up questions about the strange man she saw in the lab. She agrees to work with a police sketch artist and says she can probably sketch him herself. Reva agrees to follow up tomorrow. Reva follows Josh and Annie to the Country Club terrace.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=It77ce-Qd-U (Part 24)

I really loved Matt and Dinah, I’m sorry they never went there. I think they were much more a partnership than Matt and Vanessa ever were. Reva, Josh, and Annie have a confrontation. If only Josh would have said, “Annie, I love you, but Reva is the love of my life. I may be furious with her, but that where my fate lies.” I think Annie would have been OK. But NO, he had to string her along.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3dDXknc5nQ (Part 25)

Reva flashes back to her telling Alan of her determination to go to the ball. Josh follows her into the for some reason empty bar. Alan and Rick both reach out to Annie, one a beginning, one nearing the end of their relationship. Brent flashes back to killing Nadine, in case anyone forgot. Frank pushes to get an ID on the body he found. Levy: “That is what history is FOR Frank. You learn from it.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrlog0-t3N4 (Part 26)

Beautiful close up of Lucy’s engagement ring. Lucy is approached by a disguised Brent. Back in the ballroom Holly and Roger talk. I’m going to say having watched that Fletcher is supposed to be Henry 8th and Holly one of his wives whose head he chopped off, which is rather appropriate. Marah is so upset by Reva’s visit that Josh took her to a therapist. Annie is taking Rick’s opinion as her not being good enough, when Rick really want her marriage to fail so he could swoop in.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAAfxiYu_N8 (Part 27)

The body from the lake also has “Auburn Mist” wig hair on it. Reva finally tells Josh what happened from her point of view.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nY7QhMdfbE (Part 28)

Wednesday, January 3, 1996

Frank is furious a third matching hair sample isn’t enough to get a search warrant on Marian. Lucy tells A-M she plans on confronting Marian. Annie: “I trust Josh completely.”  – while Jeva kiss.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9OmEWmn5aw (Part 29)

Reva tries to convince Josh to reunite. He’s being a jerk. Someone wearing less than Michelle! It’s a Vegas showgirl. I don’t think that looks like Gilly, but she’s wearing a similar costume, so it could be. Annie tells Rick how secure her relationship with Josh is. Amanda arrives dressed as a belly dancer and Blake is irked as she dances over to Ross. Frank and his boss discuss the case in loud voices and Marcus’s dad Griffin Williams (who is a jerk, but right about this one) wants his son released immediately.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snW9vZhmtK8 (Part 30)

Griffin’s being right status doesn’t last long as he sees it as a media opportunity and seems to suggest Marcus’s arrest was racially motivated when that wasn’t the case at all. Frank doesn’t make a strong argument, but he’s right if they tip Marian (and she wasn’t psycho) she might take off and the truth might never come to light so Marcus would always live under a shadow of suspicion. And just how did “We” beat them? Frank is coming close to truly solving a case in his whole life doing all sort of grunt work to do it and Griffin only accidentally overheard part of a conversation. Josh bursts back into the ballroom with enough force that everyone turns to look at him and many notice he’s removed part of his costume. He strides over to Annie and asks her to dance trying and failing to act like he isn’t upset. Back in the still empty bar, Alan details all the things that her relationship with Josh has driven Reva to and declares if she still goes after Josh that she and Alan are done. Reva gives him a look and sweeps out of the bar. Reva storms over and pulls Josh and Annie apart. Reva: “NO MAN…and that includes you Joshua Lewis…walks away from me, after kissing me like THAT!”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykaEVOsIy0w (Part 31)

Reva and Josh have screaming match in the middle of the dance floor. Reva: “I can read you like a book. See Bud… See Bud run away from what he’s really feeling; To Berkley, To South America, Into Telephone Poles, Or into the Arms of a Desperate Nurse.”  Josh hits her in the housekeeper’s daughter sore spot and like always Reva reacts. Buzz comforts Reva. A-M urges Lucy not to talk to Marian alone. Nick tries to get Susan to remember what happened during the attack. Finally she remembers it was Marian.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U232coiWS5Y (Part 32)

Nick calls Frank and tells him Susan remembers Marian attacking her. Marcus and Griffin have an argument. I think Griffin is totally wrong though. His efforts didn’t lead Frank to do more. I still don’t know why Marah is so upset over her mother being alive. Reva (about Roger): “Better watch this one, Dinah. He makes me look respectable.” I wish Roger had danced with Reva. Or Fletcher or Ross, but most Roger he understands being the pariah. Reva is doing the Angelina Jolie leg pushed out through slit move years before Angelina did it. Reva and Buzz are definitely not Manny quality on the dance floor. Most people are horrified at Reva’s grandstanding, but Rick is grinning and Amanda is openly laughing. I bet Phillip would be out there dancing with her again if he was in town.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktro8qBuYQU (Part 33)

Josh admits that he’s starting to understand Reva’s behavior. Josh is not really wrong what he says about their relationship, but honestly I think he’s emphasizing the negative. Alex calls for a change partners dance (which is really called a Circle 2 Step) and everyone piles out onto the floor. It’s really hard to tell because they don’t give her any close shots, but that’s Lillian in her white Medieval costume dancing with Brent. Who is Michelle dancing with? Roger to Vanessa: “It’s New Year’s Eve, Scarlett, not the Ides of March.” Susan gives details of attack to Frank.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYhhnzHVeCQ (Part 34)

Annie and Josh discuss Josh kissing Reva. Reva returns to the house Alan gave her and finds that Alan is holding to his statement that they were through if she ran after Josh. Back at the country club partners change again and Brent is dancing with Lucy. Honestly this kind of dance is a brilliant way to mix characters. Soaps ought to do this more often.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN032MpPHrQ (Part 35)

Thursday, January 4, 1996

Susan warns them that Marian was really after Lucy. Vanessa tells Roger off about his attempts to get closer to Peter. Josh admits Reva’s kiss made him feel something.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w36KcpMIwo (Part 36)

Alan insists that he’s leaving and Reva begs him to stay. Josh and Annie talk about him and Reva. Josh: “She was kissing me and all I could think about was getting back to you was being with you where it’s safe and where I’m happy and getting away from that place that was so painful and so hard.” If Annie stayed with Josh after hearing that, she kind of deserved being hurt, but not being driven crazy. Susan reaffirms that Marian meant to kill Lucy. Frank calls for a warrant for Marian.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3aWX6-hpC8 (Part 37)

(Sound not clear at beginning fixed halfway through) Lucy is trying to figure out who is dancing with her, still Brent. Poor Gilly has a pretty great costume, but so far not a single line. Hart jumps in to defend Dinah to Roger. Amanda: “So Ross, have you made your New Year’s resolutions yet?” Ross: “Of course I have, can’t break them if you don’t make them.” Amanda and Ross had a relationship before she left town years ago (when she was a different actress). Now she’s decided she wants Ross back, despite his marriage to Blake, Ross thinks she’s just being friend until she makes a pass even he couldn’t miss. That hasn’t happened yet. Vanessa talks Blake down from clobbering Amanda.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hATvIK2wdtA (Part 38)

Josh (having magically regained his costume’s coat) goes after Annie when she flees to the porch. Reva tells Alan all about Josh pushing all her inferiority buttons (which he always does and why I don’t particularly like them together and it reminds me Josh Lewis is a Jerk). Hart to Dinah: “You sure didn’t inherit the Chamberlain manners, did you?” Hart and Dinah have it out about his interference between her and Roger. Michelle and Bill are in the background today. Gilly finally gets some lines when after Alan-Michael stumped Lucy and she tried to see if anyone else knew. Lucy: “Trivia for you – what was Zorro’s horse’s name?” Gilly and her date all shout out various cowboy names. Answer: It’s Tornado. (Totally adore Guy Williams and Disney’s Zorro is an amazing show. I wonder if it means A-M was a Disney Zorro fan, too. Seriously watch the episodes if you can.) Marian starts to confess on the phone to draw A-M out of the ballroom.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqBv-u9PQ2Y (Part 39)

Frank and Nell are back in the car watching Marian’s house. A-M rushes off leaving Lucy with her father. Buzz knows the name of the horse. Josh pulls Annie back in, using her as a shield from Reva, just as Reva said. Alan points out he and Reva had this relationship before where he supports her and then she runs back to Josh. Alan is not willing to repeat that. Reva strips for Alan.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdUhXQUJWm0 (Part 40)

Josh makes love to Annie “like never before” and Annie doesn’t get that it’s because of Reva. Annie is wearing gorgeous underpinnings though. Reva is seducing Alan. Susan and Nick are ringing in the New Year. Finally having warrant in hand the cops discover Marian’s mannequin.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olxf1NhD_WQ (Part 41)

Ladies Room scene with Blake and Holly. Blake and Amanda have confrontation, always good stuff in those ladies room scenes. Oh Amanda, the place to lock people in there is the broom closet, ask Vanessa and Reva, someone is going to come in and need the facilities. Wow have we seen the room with the stalls and sink before? A-M showed up at Marian’s apartment. A-M realizes Marian set him up to get Lucy alone. A disguised Brent gets Lucy outside as the only two people wanting to see the New Year’s fireworks. And doing better than every other soap character ever, one kiss and Lucy knows this guy isn’t A-M.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bM03WgfRJxg (Part 42)

Friday, January 5, 1996

Amanda had locked Blake into the bathroom stalls part of the ladies room and Blake is struggling to get out while Amanda makes a friendly move on Ross. For some reason they have a substitute Brent Lawrence today. Brent subdues Lucy on the Country Club patio. Dinah takes a New Year’s feast to her best friend Marcus Williams in jail. Blake comes charging out to be waylaid by Matt. but we don’t get to see what must have been a terribly interesting conversation between them. Marcus: Don’t you usually get your last meal before electrocution?” Dinah: “Actually I think it’s lethal injection in this state.” Lucy has been drug off. Nick is waiting for Susan’s answer to his proposal. Nick to Susan: “I do love you and I want to be your husband. It’s as simple and as complicated as that.” Michelle and Bill grab champagne for a toast, but Vanessa spots their underage attempt and cuts them off at the pass. Blake confronts Amanda. A-M realizes Marian has Lucy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRel_fCv35g (Part 43)

Blake and Amanda’s confrontation turns into a food fight to cheers and egging on from the crowd. Matt who has spent most of the night grabbing wayward females does it again with Amanda. Marcus and Dinah laugh over their late supper. It’s great that Dinah came and visited him every day he was in jail. Marcus and Dinah had such a great friendship. It’s truly why I wish Marcus had never left town, that was an important relationship.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXjdO7VpLUk (Part 44)

Roger crashes Dinah and Marcus’s party. Roger offers to take Dinah to New York City for a two week vacation to make their fight up as a proper honeymoon. Marcus sarcastically encourages Dinah to go to New York City, but she realizes she needs to stand by Marcus until he’s out of jail. Hart and Bridget leave. Amanda confesses to Ross that she locked Blake in, coloring it in her favor. Vanessa gives Blake good advice. Great cut away interfaces where they pick up phrases and repeat it between the two conversations. Alex vainly tries to carry on as if nothing had happened. Alex asks Fletcher to edit down the piece on the party making it seem less drama filled than it was, but he refuses. They realize that it was Marian dressed up in the Cyrano (big nose) costume they saw leave Marian’s building.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqJrgTg7txc (Part 45)

Marcus stirs up Dinah against Roger. Gilly and Griffin have a friendly conversation. This is part of the buildup where Vivian finally reveals she herself had an affair with Griffin and he could be Gilly’s father. Rick had protected Marian’s cross dressing as doctor-patient privilege, but he tells now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bm1Q12MXUVY (Part 46)

Dinah says good night to Hart. Hart showed up to talk to Dinah who is leaving half her stuff she set up for Marcus behind. Matt says it’s time to go home. Brent takes Lucy to the lighthouse.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LLUM6I2TVY (Part 47)

Monday, January 8, 1996

Dinah starts to remove her costume to signal we’re leaving New Year’s Eve behind. Hart tries to tell Dinah he sees a lot in her. Vivian confronts Griffin about whether he expects to seduce Gilly. The police discover footprints, most likely Marian’s, leading to service parking lot. Alan and Jeva are in afterglow, but they aren’t exactly glowing. A-M arrives pounding on Reva’s door. Brent is a substitute again.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzs9FfofTVM (Part 48)

A-M barges in needing to talk to Reva. Alan tries to kick him out, but Reva intervenes and A-M says Lucy was kidnapped. Frank recaps what’s happened with Lucy tonight. Nice that the background noise includes radio calls about the kidnapping. Dinah: “The point is NOBODY tells me what to do.” Hart talks Dinah into going somewhere quieter with him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUr0IsuZoAs (Part 49)

The local news people descend in costume on the investigation. Frank convinces them to keep the story quiet until they find Lucy. Griffin denies that he did anything wrong with Vivian. Vivian remembers their days protesting together. A-M came to Reva to get a sketch of the man who scared Reva in the lab when he was changing Lucy’s test results and who he thinks has her now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J4FcLgcrlQ (Part 50)

Cleary suggests avenues of investigation. Buzz still can’t believe Marian was living in disguise so long. Buzz: “This person, this Marian Crane lived around us for.. what? months? She ate with us, told us her problems, I even felt sorry for her.” Buzz finds out that Marian was always a suspect before she grabbed Lucy and reacts badly. Dinah and Hart end up at the 5th Street Diner to talk. Eleni is working the diner (after all this, they didn’t just close it?). An apparent hooker comes in for coffee and Eleni wants her to move along so Marina won’t see her. Hart interferes to buy her a coffee. Gilly interrupts Vivian and Griffin, she hears part of the conversation and Vivian covers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hml99PrCboc (Part 51)

Hart’s actions and comments gets Dinah’s ire raised and she tells him about how she was raised in circus. Buzz tears into Nell wanting to know what she thought she was doing. Brent starts to record a gloating message. Does Reva show artistic talent anywhere else (besides her photography)? Because that’s a pretty impressive drawing that shows Alan-Michael and Alan that it’s a supposedly dead Brent Lawrence behind it all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypnux2H5MVs (Part 52)

Technically the day hasn’t dawned on New Year’s Day yet, but as costumes are removed we get more back into a regular day and seem to forget it’s still the small hours of the morning. So I thought this was the best place to stop this post, but since I have the dates figured out to this point, I’ll pick the story back up when I get a chance and continue to match the days with the episodes.

UPDATE 2015: Justin Deas explains why they switched Brents about halfway through this clip:
