Bauer BBQ 2014 by Robansuefarm Chapter 3

July 7, 2016

Author’s Note:  I would like to apologize. This is probably the part that most people are interested in where we see other people at the BBQ, but it’s just going to be a quick peek this year. Don’t assume if I don’t mention them your favorite isn’t attending, but I was running embarrassingly late on this so I moved along quickly to finish up my plot.  I’ll try to include more people in my next Bauer BBQ story.

Bauer BBQ 2014 by Robansuefarm Chapter 3

Michelle and Bill brought in the rest of the stuff with Hope opening the door and holding it for them. They deposited what they brought in on the kitchen table.

Hope followed them, “Uncle Bill, isn’t Sarah with you? She promised to be my partner in the three-legged race today.”

Robbie coming down stairs having deposited his package in his room, froze to listen, but no one else noticed.

Bill paused long enough to deposit Michelle’s stuff on the table and to swoop up Hope into his arms. “Sarah is with her daddy today, she’ll be along later, don’t worry, Squirt.”

“OK, Uncle Bill.” Completely reassured Hope danced off and Robbie came on down the stairs with a slight smile on his face.

Michelle put her load next to Bill’s as Rick came into the room. He was wearing a new apron this year that said “Bauer Power” IMG_0144and carrying the traditional chef’s hat as Leah hadn’t yet arrived to do the annual ceremonial crowning. “OK troops! I expect 100% devotion today. This is the 5th anniversary of the best little sister in the world moving back to town.” Rick paused to smack a noisy kiss on the top of Michelle’s head, “and we are going to celebrate.”

Rick paused to look around the kitchen as Blake came in the door and they all welcomed her, except for Rick who barked, “Blake, where is the potato salad? You did make it from Bert’s recipe didn’t you?”

“Still in the car. You can carry it in yourself after you assigned me to making it. And of course I used Bert’s recipe. What else?”

“No dissension in the ranks, we have to pull together people. A horde of people is going to be hitting that door today and we have to be ready!…Michelle, did you bring the ketchup?”

“I brought that all over last night, along with the rest of the condiments and I got the plain kind of ketchup Dad always liked.”

Phillip and Beth came in. Phillip carried a large Thermos jug and Beth pulling a cooler on wheels.

Rick made another check on his list. “Very good the lemonade and bottles of water. Bill just don’t stand there – start on the iced tea, you know where everything is.”

Frank came in pulling an oversized catering cooler. “Hot dogs and chicken breasts check! I’ll put the cooler by the grill and then go get the second cooler with the hamburger so you can start shaping the burgers.”

“Check, check, check!” Rick said. Really wishing Leah would get here so they could put on his hat. He always thought he looked more the commander of the BBQ once it was on, but he wouldn’t cheat. This was his and Leah’s special moment of the day and he won’t deprive them both of that.

“Coleslaw?” Rick asked Michelle.

“Ready and waiting in the refrigerator and so is the three-bean salad and the baked beans. The watermelon is on ice to cut later. I brought all that over last night and here are the relish trays I made last night.” She gestured to the pile Bill had carried in and abandoned on the kitchen table. “They just need the cling film pulled off and set out.”

“What about Bert’s apple pies?” he asked Michelle anxiously. “With everything else going on did you have time….”

“They are in the freezer. I’ll go pull them out now so they can thaw and we’ll rewarm them in the oven before we serve them.”

“Great!” Rick double checked his list for the fourth time. “When Buzz gets here with the last few things we should be ready to go.”

“Good,” Mindy said as she brought in a bag of ice and thunked it down on the counter. “Then you can help me bring in the last minute supplies and we can get this party going. AND next year I don’t care if it’s traditional or not, we’re having Oklahoma BBQ beside the Bauer Burgers and there are some buffalo brauts in the freezer you can just throw on the grill too.”

It had become a tradition for Bill and Lizzie to oversee the games. Zach and Jude now settled back into Springfield life had helped for the last couple of years and with HB IV having so much energy Lizzie certainly appreciated the help. Dani, Little Billy, and Frankie were all about the same age and ran around, chasing each other in between the more formal games.  They set everything up, made sure the equipment was out from everything from the horseshoe toss to the badminton net. The traditional contests and races were the ones that people waited for though. The three legged race was a big hit with Phillip and James winning this year, although Mel and Leah weren’t far behind. Hope Santos and Sarah Randall came in first in the under 12 division. Meanwhile Henry and Peyton were tearing around trying to get into everything at once.

Next on the agenda was the egg toss. Someone who didn’t know what was going on would have been surprised to notice that the crowd was shrinking. The time was getting closer to zero hour and people were needed elsewhere. You could almost hear a clock ticking like Abby once did in a church before Ray’s first service. In spite of that the egg toss was a lot of fun with Billy and Vanessa Lewis taking the honors. Emma Spencer and Natalia Aitoro came in second. Maureen Reardon and Clarissa Marler broke up their championship team from last year in order that Clarissa could team with her boyfriend Adam and Maureen could team with Clarissa’s brother Kevin that Maureen hoped would soon be her boyfriend too, although it took some fast talking from Clarissa to get him to agree to it. Another tradition was kept when Lillian and Buzz showed up brushing off their clothes coming out of the woods right in the middle of the awarding of prizes.

Michelle was distracted all day, thinking about what was to come, so she saw very little of this. She didn’t really pay attention to what anyone said to her. Only watching her kids to keep them safe, she found herself getting a little teary eyed. Having taken the last special package up to her old room earlier, she now went back in the Bauer House. She smiled as she ran her hand over the counter remembering their “celebration” there one night. Sent a scowl over to the chair in the corner where he had bled so much the night he was shot. Then she glanced back to the door and remembered Aunt Meta coming in to his welcome home party when Danny was released from the hospital following his recovery from the coma. She passed on to the short hallway that led up the backstairs and remembered running down them laughing with Danny when they came back from their second honeymoon, where unknown to them at the time they had conceived Robbie. She walked on up the stairs, ready now to open that special package. She placed it on her bed and unzipped it. She continued to stare at it when suddenly there was a knock on her door.

“Hey, look who’s here from New York!” Drew came into the room, “I’ve come to help you get ready.”

*****

The games began to close down early, everything was a little rushed this year because of what was going to happen before the fireworks started. Finally Rick appeared having ditched the hat and Bauer Power apron and invited everyone over next door to the Spaulding backyard.

Bauer BBQ 2008 UPDATE 2016

July 6, 2016
Rick and Jude Bauer, 2008

Rick and Jude Bauer, 2008

Previously I was able to post both the whole episode in one piece and in sections. However, both links have gone dead, a hazard of the grey market, so I am reposting it. I think this is missing a little bit, but it’s most of the episode. I’ll keep a look out.

If it wasn’t the intention of TPTB to zero out the central Bauer family, they did a pretty dang smash up job of doing exactly that anyway. This was the second year in a row where the Bauer BBQ wasn’t even held at the Bauer House. Maybe that’s why Rick seems so out of it in his planning in 2009? Maybe he was out of practice?

Anyway during the Bauer BBQ in 2007, Beth (who thought she was pregnant with Rick’s child via their pretty hot affair while he was married to Mel – wish they hadn’t rushed through so much of it in one “Inside the Light” episode) impulsively married Rick. Their marriage fell apart over two big problems. 1. Rick had found out that Beth’s daughter, Peyton Spaulding, wasn’t his (Cassie changed the paternity results to keep the child away from Alan, partly from revenge for Tammy and partly because she believed Alan was a danger to the child) and didn’t tell Beth. 2. Beth really never got over Phillip. Rick was never enough. Beth wanted Phillip & the closest she could get was adding Rick & Alan (which when you think about it would be pretty darn close to Phillip) so she waffles back and forth trying to have both for quite awhile. Her next attempt at romance would be with a young writer who made her feel secure, Coop Cooper (anybody else still sensing the not really over Phillip yet pattern in that?).

Lizzie’s comment to Alan about Gus is because while Gus is dead Alan thinks he’s been getting messages from him. He uses his “powers” for good and to raise capital. However, it is later revealed that it was really a medical issue that almost killed him. Alan falling down the basement steps is a further symptom of this illness.

Crash (Cassie and Josh) are tiptoeing around each other as they try to get over serious arguments about life decisions Cassie has been making. However, what she really needs is serious counseling over Tammy’s death and what she allowed to happen to Will and how her decisions impacted her sister. Lacking that their marriage never stood a chance. Ironically the true love of Cassie’s life, Richard, denied this very help to his brother Edmund which is why Edmund spent the last 10 years tormenting Springfield.

They threw us a Bauer bone though. I appreciate the call at the beginning from Ed and Rick sending his love to Danny, Michelle, and the kids. They really did do a good job implying Rick spent a lot of his time off camera in California spoiling Robbie and Hope rotten, teaching Robbie magic tricks, and using Hope as an excuse to still do childish things.

Dinah had arranged to take over Spaulding Enterprises and the Spaulding Mansion as part of an elaborate plan to get revenge on Alan and to prove that she wasn’t somebody to be pitied after she recovered from the brain damage she received taking a bullet to save Mallet’s life. She turned it all over to Bill who kicked the Spauldings out even though he was strongly drawn to Lizzie. He was ambitiously trying to run for Governor with his “perfect” family. The day before was Bava’s wedding. Lizzie told him right before the ceremony that the child Ava was carrying wasn’t his. Ava slept with Bill, Remy one time, and visited a fertility clinic. Bill chose to marry Ava anyway who he saw as the ideal partner for being a power couple and because he didn’t want to give up the child whether he was the biological father or not. Once the baby is born it is clearly Remy’s.

I don’t remember why the Spauldings are living in Harley’s house, except they were kicked out of the Spaulding Mansion by Dinah Marler and TPTB didn’t want to have to build another set. I don’t remember what the official excuse was. Harley was on the run with Rafe (Gus’s long lost son) after Rafe, in what can only be described as a fit, shot Jeffery O’Neill for blackening his father’s name (which he wasn’t doing). They are currently hiding in Greece.

Watch for a few scenes of Rick actually parenting Jude. Blink and you might miss them. After the years we spent watching Rick yearn for a child to carry on his special relationship with Bert. Did these writers ever, you know, ever actually watch the show? (Shakes head.)

Why would Gus want the Spauldings at the BAUER BBQ? Gus’s relationship with the Bauers was love-hate at best. Danny he eventually settled down to a prickly friendly-ish relationship, but Michelle didn’t like him, Rick hated him, and Meta isn’t there. Phillip would have wanted his family at the BBQ, but I think Gus would have been happier to have them at a Cubs game.

Also, listen to Mallet’s speech which is a good one although I don’t know why he’s the one who’s making it. They really thought Mallet was the person to make that annual speech. Mallet? Really? Even Josh made more sense and Rick was freaking standing RIGHT THERE!

I didn’t catch that the first time. Cassie and Marina both made cherry pies (nobody made Bert’s apple pie this year?) and Mallet totally dissed Marina saying how great Cassie’s was. That was worth watching right there! I truly despise her. I got so sick of them trying to push Mallet and his GODDAUGHTER/WIFE Marina down our throats. Next comes Bizzie-Bava tension, Rick and Beth starting to make up, and some pretty darn explicit Lillibuzz.

Previously I had both a multi-part version and a full episode to link to, but they have both been taken down. I don’t think this is quite the whole episode, but the way they were editing episodes at this point. It’s kind of hard to tell.

Part 1 – People prep for BBQ, Spauldings decide to have their own, A mixed up Bill reaches out to both Ava and Lizzie, Rick shows up to everyone’s delight

Alan falls down the stairs and decides that they should all go to the BBQ anyway because Gus would want them to. Remy realizes that Ava wanted the governors mansion much more than she wanted him and is understandably upset because they have been a slow burn romance the last year or so at least. Alan references Alan-Michael parachuting in, but misidentifies it as having happened at the Bauer house (the BBQ was held at Johnny Bauer’s hanger at the Springfield Airport that year). Alan wasn’t there though, so I guess he can be excused. This is the part where we finally get a couple of scenes of Rick actually being a parent. That’s the best part of this. Then we end with a speech and a montage of everyone playing in bouncey houses that apparently they got because the show house doesn’t have a pool.

Children of Springfield 2016

June 20, 2016

Back in 2014 before I could really dig into my Manny Bauer BBQ fanfic for the year I had to stop and figure out what children would be running around and how old they would be now. Sadly it’s been awhile now since we’ve seen any of them. I thought this might be helpful for anyone wanting to write a “present day” Springfield story. I’m especially looking for any Bauer BBQ fanfic of any couple, any era and I’m making myself a challenge to at least get the start of one done by July 1st, so I’m challenging you as well.

Manny Move Back

In the previous post I shared some of my reasoning and notes to show my work and let it stand for possible addition and corrections. I recently read a very persuasive article that said what truly made an article academic was to show your work and admit you could be wrong. So I’m admitting I was wrong. I have good reason to switch up the Marler children and switch them back to airdate birth age so I did.

Below you’ll find a list in reverse chronological order with the changes marked with an *. Please note these are often rough calculations and any of them could be subject to SORAS at any given time. Personally I like to watch kids grow up on screen, so I won’t be SORASing. See the 2015 post for discussion on how I arrived at most of the ages.

Sadly I’ve had to leave the mess age wise that is James Spaulding and Daisy/Susan LeMay/Cooper because there is just no way to leave it and no way fix it and keep any kind of continuity, so we are just swallowing it and going on. So James, Daisy, and Ashlee are all safely graduated from college now and in the young adult storyline, where no one has no idea how old anybody is.😉 But just for the heck of it going by Zach Conroy’s age, James Spaulding should be 31 and so should Ashlee Wolfe according to Caitlain VanZandt’s age. If take James’s age when we meet him fresh out of boarding school to be 18, he should be 25 instead. At the rate she was going Daisy/Susan is probably now 4.

There could be any number of other children around, for example maybe Alan-Michael and Lucy have kids, as could any number of other people that we had lost track of on screen or since 2009. These are children that are reasonable to assume are around. I’ll gladly take suggestions of others. The only children I’ve listed are those we know on screen, plus Danielle who I created in my Springfield Bound story which Michelle told Danny about shortly after Rick and Mindy’s wedding as shown in the flashforward and so would have been born in 2011 and so is now 5.

Moved de-SORASed on my list are the Marler children. Basically our post-show triangle between Robbie Santos, Sarah Randall, and Clarissa Marler required them to be closer in age so I reverted from an approximation based on SORAS when last seen back to airdate birthdays. I had previously added Rocky Cooper in just because it still ticks me off that they basically sent him off into the attic to look for skis so I like to mention him when I reasonably can. I had used the SORASed Coop’s (his older brother’s) last on screen actors age and subtracted the difference on screen, but I decided to ignore that since Coop is dead anyway and return to airdate birthday because makes Rocky more available.

So here is my list. I’m probably missing people. Let me know who else you think should be included. Whether these children would actually be around town or not is, of course, up to you and how you plot your story.

In reverse chronological order, the current children of Springfield:

Danielle “Dani” Santos, 5

H.B. Lewis IV, 6

Francesca Cooper, 6

Henry Cooper Lewis, 7

Colin O’Neill, 8

Peyton Spaulding, 8

Emma Spencer Spaulding, 10

Sarah Randall, 10

Hope Santos, 11

Leah Bauer, 14

Robbie Santos, 15

Jude Bauer, 15

Clarissa Marler, 16*

Zach Spaulding, 17

Rocky Bradshaw Cooper, 18*

Maureen Reardon, 19

Kevin Marler, 19*

Jason Marler, 19*

Christmas 2008

December 25, 2014

This year’s Christmas clips are from December 24, 2008. Depressingly this is the last Springfield we will ever see for ourselves in Springfield. This episode gives a good example of how Guiding Light worked in 2008. The pacing is incredibly fast, both with how fast plot points sprint by and within individual scenes.

Reva Shayne Lewis and Jeffery O’Neill who are currently living in Cross Creek’s cabin which has been relocated to Springfield. They are hosting the Lewis family Christmas. This is during Reva’s miracle cancer, postmenopausal pregnancy. The result will be Colin, her miracle baby.  Jeffery gets out a stocking that he has glittered penned “Miracle” on for the baby. The tradition of reading “A” Christmas story, not “the” Christmas story, which one changed every year, actually comes from the Chamberlains. There are some references to H.B. reading the Christmas story from the Bible, but that wasn’t every year. In fact, a version of the A Child’s Christmas in Wales that Natalia gives Emma was even used at least one year. H.B. Lewis and Henry Chamberlain shared the duty until after Henry Chamberlain died. Vanessa even picked it up for awhile after H.B. didn’t return to Springfield for Christmas anymore, but the reading was a Christmas tradition so I’m glad they did it this year.

Billy Lewis is also worried about Bill and Lizzie, who he has grown very close to after he hired her at Lewis. He asks his friend Buzz (who has been friends with since Billy got out of jail for shooting Roger) and who is going around dressed as Santa today for some reason, to give Bill a pep talk and it works.

The last time Dinah Marler returned to town she had a plan to prove she was not less because of her brain injury. Dinah still is having trouble and hence her trouble doing the greeting.  Her plan was to take over Spaulding Enterprises for her half-brother Bill who she felt was the only family member who hadn’t abandoned her (or died). The plan worked (it’s why Bill and Billy are living in the Spaulding Mansion), but once given the reins Bill didn’t see the need to continue to listen to Dinah’s plans anymore and she felt jealous as much of Bill’s focus turned to true love Lizzie. Frustrated Dinah unfortunately had hired Daisy’s thug boyfriend Grady to do simple tasks and he decides to kidnap Lizzie. Dinah isn’t too happy about this, but doesn’t end it at once after she finds out. Once Grady realizes he’s going to take the fall for this, he frames Bill instead. Dinah was upset, but couldn’t do anything about it without outing herself. Having made friends with a returning and equally troubled Shayne, together they decide to burn the shed (?) that houses police evidence without checking to see if anybody is inside. This destroys the evidence Grady planted and if I’m following the throw away line right, injured Ashlee’s mom Doris.

At this time Dinah is back to running WSPR, but most of the station seems to have disappeared. We get a handful of studio shots like this one and one near the end where Vanessa is in an editing booth, but most of the work of WSPR is now being done by Dinah’s assistant Ashlee Wolfe including writing and editing which apparently she does on her laptop no matter where she happens to be.

Harley and Gus’s house is finally finished, but Gus is dead and, after her actress left the show to go to AMC (where anyone who is mad she left Guiding Light should know the score was evened), Harley took off to hide and protect Rafe in what apparently is now a non-extradition country, Greece. Rafe came back and Harley didn’t. It doesn’t make much sense (and honestly why didn’t they bring Haley Barr Sparks – who provided Harley pregnancy coverage twice before – to finish the storyline up in some better, sensible way I’ll never know), but that’s what they’re stuck with. You also get the feeling that they seem a little bit resentful about her leaving. I’m surprised she even got that short of a phone call in. What you mostly get is Frank calling her “My sister” and Buzz calling her “my daughter” and only on rare occasions where plot kind of forces them too. Also, they cut her off, off screen as well as on so now Daisy, the kid Harley did all this stuff to keep in her life, wants to be in it and Harley totally blows her off and won’t let Rick see his kid either. Mallet and Marina are married now and when Harley decided to sell her house, they decided to buy it, but apparently she really gouged them because two full time professionals who would otherwise be paying rent, can’t seem to scrape up the money to make the payments (hence the budget over Christmas presents talk).

Lillian and Buzz are dating and because of Lillian wanting Beth there, Alan and Peyton (recently revealed to be Alan’s bio daughter after all – when everyone thought for a long time she was Rick’s) are there too. I’m not entirely sure what Beth was doing, maybe slipping out to see Coop? That was an awfully long bathroom break, although it’s true when you’re just holding a kid, how could you get a chance to excuse yourself?

The best bits of the episode are the nice moment of friendship between Billy and Buzz and the cute Bizzie videochat, but most of all Dinah’s Christmas speech which does turn out to be good, especially on top of Buzz’s lovely Christmas toast. Also, look at the end of part 3 where they do the 2008 production model version of the classic holiday endshot.

This first bit is a highlights reel. Below that are two parts that add up to about 20 minutes of the the 37 minute episode, some of the missing part is in this highlight reel, with some stuff repeated. The third part is from a Marina and Mallet channel (who knew?) and also should be from this episode or the one right before or after.

Reva and Jeffery are getting ready to host the Lewis family for Christmas. Most of what’s added scenes have to do with Shayne bringing Dinah to the Lewis family Christmas. After everyone arrives, Billy declares it’s time to pick up H.B.’s tradition to read the Christmas story. (Note: This situation is true to life. It sometimes happens to even large families there may be a series of years where you don’t have any young kids between generations.) Billy picks up a picture book of the Christmas story to read it. During the story is a montage of everyone around Springfield that year, including Buzz in a Santa suit. (Note: That in previous years the Lewis family would have several large trees that swept the ceiling. Apparently now they are down to one sad little box whose contents they have memorized – they can tell what ornaments aren’t on the tree.)

We come across Dinah still struggling with her post shooting trauma struggling to come up with a Christmas greeting. Olivia had wanted a designer Christmas, but Natalia set up an old fashioned Christmas at the farm. It’s the Christmas Emma has always wanted, but Otalia are still are struggling with unwanted feelings. Shayne shows up and supports Dinah, but she doesn’t want to go to the Lewis Christmas with him because Jeffery will be there and she and Jeffery share a complex past. Buzz shows up to play Santa to Bill when they run into each other at the P&G convenience store after Billy asked him. (Remember Billy and Buzz are friends since when Billy got out of prison for shooting Roger.) Natalia brought a Christmas tree to the jail where Rafe is being held for shooting Jeffery because he blamed him for Gus’s death (which was kind of stupid, Jeffery did a lot of awful stuff, but not that).  Emma goes missing sparking a confrontation between Otalia. Just then Frank calls. Emma had ended up at the police station.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z41Cke-5LjY (Part 1)

At the Lewis Christmas, Billy decides it’s time to pick up H.B.’s tradition of reading the Christmas story. There are no little ones list year, but he thinks they should still read it anyway.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-mOGyrSEsY (Part 2)

Mallet and Marina are celebrating Christmas in their house. They each get each other the same universal TV remote. They had to Company and discover Beth, Alan, and Peyton are there at Lillian’s request. Buzz gives the Christmas toast. (Out of order with the top two, but should be in same episode or one on either side of this.)

Checking In on the Children of Springfield

July 30, 2014

Before I could really dig into my Bauer BBQ fanfic for this year, I had to stop awhile and figure out what little ones would be running around and how old they are now. I thought this might be helpful for anyone wanting to write a “present day” Springfield story.  So I’m going to share some of my reasoning and notes and then a list by age. These are often rough calculations and any of them could be subject to SORAS at any given time. Personally I like to watch kids grow up on screen, so I won’t be SORASing. Sadly I’ve had to leave the mess age wise that is James Spaulding and Daisy/Susan LeMay/Cooper because there is just no way to leave it and no way fix it and keep any kind of continuity, so we are just swallowing it and going on. So James, Daisy, and Ashlee are all safely graduated from college now and in the young adult storyline, where no one has no idea how old anybody is.😉 But just for the heck of it going by Zach Conroy’s age, James Spaulding should be 29 and so should Ashlee Wolfe according to Caitlain VanZandt’s age. If take James’s age when we meet him fresh out of boarding school to be 18, he should be 23 instead. At the rate she was going Daisy/Susan is probably now 4.

In the Santos family, Robbie 13 this year, Hope is 9, and Danielle (who I created in my Springfield Bound story which Michelle told Danny about shortly after Rick and Mindy’s wedding as shown in the flashforward and so would have been born in 2011 and so is now 3).

Marcy Rylan had her baby who played as a baby bump H.B. Lewis IV (Bizzie’s son) on  Oct. 21, 2009. Since Lizzie only revealed her pregnancy in the flash forward set in September 2010, Little Billy the Fourth should have been born at least approximately Oct. 21, 2010 which would make him 4 now and a year older than Dani Santos.

Sarah Randall was born in 2006 and she is 8 this year. Peyton Spaulding (Beth’s daughter with Alan) was born in 2008 and she is 6 this year. Jude Bauer was born October 12, 2001 and is also 13 because he’s during the part of the year where he and Robbie are the same age, he’ll turn 14 in 14 months and be a year older than Robbie for the next 6 months. I’m going to pretend Leah is just a fast developer and say she’s 12 just to get her back younger than Jude like she should be in the story, but to deal with the fact we’ve already seen her as a teenager. Zach Spaulding is 15, also based on his on screen birthdate. While I was figuring ages, Rocky Bradshaw Cooper would be 26 now (that’s taking the original distance in age between him and Coop and subtracting it from Coop’s SORASed age when he died).

I asked ItsOnlySoaps and she says, “Kevin and Jason Marler the boys 17…18 in Nov Clarissa 14…15 in Dec.” without SORASing, but Mick Hazen played Jason when last seen around Ross’ funeral, going by his age Kevin and Jason are 21. Holding at the three year difference that would make Clarissa 18.

Maureen Reardon (Matt and Vanessa’s daughter, named after Michelle’s mother) was last played by Frank Dicopoulos’s daughter, Olivia Dicopoulos, based on Olivia’s age Maureen is now 17.

Colin O’Neill (Reva’s son with Jeffery O’Neil) based on show birthdate is now 6.

Emma Spencer Spaulding was born in 2006, but aged to 7 in 2007, making her birthdate 2000. That would make her older than Robbie Santos and Jude Bauer though which doesn’t work well generationally (making sure there are clusters of kids of close ages) so I’m going to stick with the 2006 birthdate. That makes her her 8.

Francesca Cooper only appeared the last day, but they gave her a November 2009 birthdate. So that means she’s 4 as well.

Henry Cooper Lewis the football that was passed around between Shayne, Dinah, Mallet, and Marina was born in late 2008. That should make him 5.

So here is my list. I’m probably missing people. Let me know who else you think should be included. Whether these children would actually be around town or not is, of course, up to you and how you plot your story.

In reverse chronological order, the current children of Springfield:

Danielle “Dani” Santos, 3

H.B. Lewis IV, 4

Francesca Cooper, 4

Henry Cooper Lewis, 5

Colin O’Neill, 6

Peyton Spaulding, 6

Emma Spencer Spaulding, 8

Sarah Randall, 8

Hope Santos, 9

Leah Bauer, 12

Chamberlain Elementary Opening This Fall

June 15, 2011

Periodically we get a report from WSPR on what’s going on in Springfield thanks to ace reporter Sharon Scott. This is the last one based on the flashforward of the Guiding Light finale. Jonathan Randall is given the job of project manager for the new elementary school. Ever since I read a young Manny fanfic where they attended Chamberlain Elementary, I’ve been enchanted with the idea that the school would be named for Henry Chamberlain, a fitting tribute. Tonight’s report is on that school mentioned in the flashforward and named by me after Henry getting ready to open.

I’m most proud that I was able to work in Henry Chamberlain, Bill Lewis, Billy Lewis, Jonathan Randall, Richard Winslow, Matt Reardon, Vanessa Chamberlain Reardon Lewis, Quint Chamberlain, Nola Reardon Chamberlain, Hope Santos and Peyton Spaulding into one story. See Jonathan get the job of project foreman below.

Mindy Tweets Christmas

December 17, 2010
Today Soap Opera 451 brought us a peek at Christmas in Springfield 2010. Follow Melinda Sue Lewis on Twitter and check out Soap Opera 451 often. (And check back here for more Christmas in Springfield). http://twitter.com/MelindaSueLewis

#GL Classic Christmas clips at: http://www.soapopera451.com/msl/ (Scroll towards the bottom) How was GL like #Glee and #Sopranos? Find out!

Melinda Sue Lewis MelindaSueLewis tweeted the following story yesterday about Christmas.

Step right up, the Bauers are trimming their tree! (With some Lewis and Santos help!) Rick dragged home the biggest evergreen he could find.

When it proved taller than our ceiling (which, let the record show, I pointed out back on the lot), he cut off the top foot and made a mini-Tree for the littlest kids. I’m trimming that one with Hudson and Alana, while Sarah, Henry, Peyton, Robbie and Hope are on “big tree” duty.

Robbie has pronounced himself in charge since he’s the oldest. “What about the rest of us?” Rick asks. “You’re just old,” Robbie explains.

Of course, this also means the big tree has yet to be decorated past the three foot high mark. But, we’re all having so much fun, who cares?

Inevitably, we Four Musketeers start reminiscing about our Christmas in New York, complete with St. Nick, sidewalk Santa – and real thing.

Robbie isn’t impressed. He reminds us of the year SF was flooded with Santas – even Edmund! (Watch clip at: http://tinyurl.com/GLSantas )

Lizzie recalls catching her parents kissing under the mistletoe when she was a little girl and knowing then that they’d get back together.

“It just took a bit longer than I expected,” she teases, while Beth and Phillip exchange awkward looks, then grin at each other and Lizzie.

Michelle invokes Maureen, especially the Christmas when they, along with Eleni and Blake danced their way (to Journey! Just like #GLEE!)…

Through cleaning the kitchen! (Clip at: http://tinyurl.com/GLJourney ) I, for one, could never derive that much joy from cleaning anything.

Springfield Bound by Robansuefarm – Chapter 8

Springfield Bound by Robansuefarm – Chapter 8

Beth and Phillip had decided to give it a little time after Alan’s death before they got married, then came Lizzie and Bill’s Thanksgiving and finishing up their house, and after that were the holidays, so they decided to be re-married on their original anniversary, February 14th. The men of the bridal party were in tuxes and Beth wore an off-white tea length sleeveless gown with a tight bodice and a very full skirt that looked like something Audrey Hepburn might have worn. Rick and James stood up for Phillip and Mindy and Lizzie stood up for Beth. The families had so many young people that they ended up with more flower girls and ring bearers than adults. Peyton, Emma, Hope, and Lizzie’s daughter Sarah were the flower girls and Robbie, Zach and Jude (who Harley had finally been prevailed on to bring back for the occasion after many phone calls from Rick, Beth, Phillip and even Olivia) were ring bearers. Danny and Michelle were official “wranglers” for the ring bearers and flower girls, respectively. To get them all properly dressed, kept clean, neat, on time, and on task, and, in the case of the boys, kept from wrestling with each other, was a full time job.

True to her word, Alex and Fletcher came back for Phillip and Beth’s wedding. At the reception, Danny was glad everything had gone well and that he was officially relieved of his duties, now only being responsible for his own children. He looked out over the room. Hope was chasing around with the rest of the flower girls. Michelle was dancing with Robbie and Danny was thinking about going to catch Hope to dance with him, but at the moment he was just watching everybody being so happy and enjoying his children being part of the community in a way he never had been growing up or for a long time after.

Fletcher Reade walked up to him. “Hello, Danny. I wanted to introduce myself, I’m Fletcher Reade.”

“Oh right, Ben’s father.”

“I’ve wanted to talk to you for a while. That is there is something I think you should know. I don’t think anyone else has probably told you.” He smiled. “Maybe nobody else in town really knows. I was a foreign correspondent around the world for years. Plus, I was married to the love of Roger Thorpe’s life. I know trouble.” Fletcher paused again.”I was in love, I thought, with Claire when Michelle was born. I even thought Michelle was mine for awhile and later she was one of Ben’s best friends growing up so I kept an eye on her. I just wanted to tell you something about her. Rick and Ed and probably everyone else around here,” Fletcher paused to gesture around the room. “has told you that all the trouble you two have gotten into is your fault, that you brought danger into her life.” He looked Danny in the eye.

Danny wondered why he was dragging all this up now. But he only said, “Well, they’re right. I did.”

“No.” Fletcher shook his head. “Michelle Bauer was in danger on a regular basis long before she became Michelle Santos since she was born, heck since she was conceived in Beirut in the middle of a war zone. No matter who she was with Michelle would have managed to put herself in danger. That’s just the kind of person she is. She doesn’t do the sensible thing. She doesn’t play it safe. She never has. She takes risks. She trusts in people other people wouldn’t take a chance on. Heck, that’s the only reason she found you in the first place. No matter who she was with Michelle would have found some way to be in just as much danger. She’s just like her mother and Maureen was married to Ed Bauer of all people and she still got in all kinds of trouble, we were assumed dead in a terrorist attack for God’s sake. Michelle would have gotten into trouble too no matter who she with and I  for one was glad when I heard you two got together because I knew you could handle whatever trouble she found. You didn’t get her into trouble, but you were always there to deal with it. Don’t let anybody else,” Fletcher stopped to gesture at the room at large again, “tell you differently.” Fletcher nodded again definitively and walked off to find Alexandra.

Danny would ponder what Fletcher had said later, but for now he went to catch his daughter. He wanted to dance with Hope and Michelle and just enjoy the day. Dark thoughts and other truths could wait to be dealt with.

Rick and Mindy’s rehearsal ran like clockwork. Mindy had designed the gowns for herself and the entire female half of the bridal party. The makeup of this second bridal party was much the same as Phillip and Beth’s bridal party had been. Beth was Mindy’s matron of honor. Phillip was Rick’s best man. Leah was added so there was an extra bridesmaid and Ed was supposed to balance the addition on the groom’s side, with Frank prepared to step up from usher and stand in if Ed and Holly got delayed. Michelle and Danny had taken Lizzie and James’s places. James had flown out to California to visit Daisy at college, so Lizzie and Bill got to be the child wranglers this time, a fact Danny and Michelle were both grateful for. Danny was also grateful that Mindy considered ease of removal when she designed a gown. He and Michelle had already had a “test run” and he thought it had come off remarkably well. Ed and Holly were due to fly back just in time for the ceremony tomorrow.

It had meant a lot to Danny that Rick had asked him to be in the wedding party. Rick had told him he was the closest thing he to a brother he had, apart from Phillip, and that he really wanted Danny to stand up for him. Danny had shaken his hand and they had hugged and he was truly proud to stand up for Rick.

Flash forward from the Sept. 18th episode

At Rick and Mindy’s wedding reception the dancing was in full force. Lizzie and Bill were dancing, so were Vanessa and Billy. Frank and Blake made quite the show. Ed and Holly were dancing with more happiness than skill, while Phillip and Beth looked like they could only see each other. The children had been dancing and running around again. Robbie’s parents, Michelle and Danny, were dancing with each other and attracting all eyes with their dancing ability (it was their second favorite physical activity after all), when Robbie Santos eased up to Sarah Randall where she was standing still for a moment watching the dancers. Suddenly overcome by an impulse brought on by her curly long hair and petite frame (like father, like son after all), Robbie reached out and kissed Sarah on the cheek. It was sweet, innocent little kiss, but it was more than that. It was a promise that life and love will continue in Springfield, just as it has for the last 72 years within sight of the Guiding Light.

Springfield Bound by Robansuefarm – Chapter 7

I’ve published this fanfic as one piece before, but I decided I wanted it in chapters. I hope you enjoy it.

Springfield Bound by Robansuefarm – Chapter 7

Mindy, Phillip, Beth, and Peyton were all over at the Bauer House again. With Phillip working with Danny and Hope Santos and Peyton Spaulding becoming fast friends, they socialized a lot more since Danny, Michelle, and Mindy had moved back to Springfield. The Four Musketeers were definitely riding again and Danny and Michelle were now basically honorary Musketeers. The talk was all about Phillip and Beth’s upcoming wedding. Phillip was saying how they wanted something simple. There had been so much chaos in the last few months and Beth had said that she’d already done the Princess thing when they were married the first time, so they had been talking about following Christina and Remy’s example and having a Justice of the Peace ceremony. Danny had been waiting his chance and during a lull he signaled Phillip to follow him and slipped out the kitchen door himself.

“What’s up Danny? Something happening I should know about at Spaulding?” Phillip asked with concern, looking at the younger man who he now considered a close friend.

“No, this is definitely personal.” Danny began, a little uncertain of how to put this. “I’ve been listening to the wedding talk and I want to give you some heartfelt advice.” Danny broke off.

“Yes,” Phillip prompted.

“The last time Michelle and I got divorced, while you were, uh, gone. It really wasn’t something we wanted, we sort of let ourselves be talked into that it was what we ought to do.” Danny looked to Phillip for some understanding. And he got it, Phillip had gotten married and divorced before based on what he ought to do and he didn’t recommend it. He nodded and Danny continued. “So when we got back together, it had only been a couple of months since the divorce went through and we still felt married, so it was more like an un-divorce than a wedding, if you understand. We were undoing a legal mistake, not making a new commitment THAT had always been there. We’d just lost sight of it for a little while.” Danny ran his fingers through his hair as he always did when he felt unsure about something. “So I just arranged an un-divorce. I had Ray re-marry us right there in the kitchen.”

“The kitchen?! You couldn’t at least have it in the living room?” Phillip had clearly not heard this story before.

“Well, we spent so much of our lives in that kitchen. Michelle saved my life in there. She went into labor with Robbie in there. We, uh, celebrated my being cleared from the murder charges right there on the countertop.”

Phillip interrupted, “Too much information. Michelle may be your wife, but I still think of her as my little sister.”

Danny looked a little sheepish, he wouldn’t want to know that about Pilar either. He nodded and continued. “I gave her back my wedding ring and we almost quit on each other before we even started right over there. It just seemed right. Michelle said so too.” It had seemed to make so much sense at the time.

Phillip looked at him questioningly.

Danny went on. “So even though at the time she said how great it was and how right I was that it was just what she wanted, NOW we can be arguing about something else completely and she’ll bring up the kitchen wedding. For the rest of my life, I’m going to be hearing about it. So my advice my friend, is even if Beth says she wants something simple, small, and plain, DO NOT believe her. I’m not saying it has to be a princess fairy tale wedding, but do something nice with more than 6 guests and with you in a tux. Trust me, it will be worth it in the long run.” Danny looked relieved he had found the words to explain what he meant to his friend to head him off from a potential mistake.

Phillip nodded and took the advice to heart and in the end Phillip and Beth’s wedding was just enough grander than what Beth actually said she wanted that they were both happy.

Bauer BBQ 2008

July 7, 2010

Rick and Jude Bauer, BBQ 2008

1. Rick had found out that Beth’s daughter, the future Peyton Spaulding, wasn’t his (Cassie changed the paternity results to keep the child away from Alan, partly from revenge for Tammy and partly because she believed Alan was a danger to it) and didn’t tell Beth.

Cash are tiptoeing around each other as they try to get over serious arguments about life decisions Cassie has been making.

I got so sick of them trying to push Mallet and his GODDAUGHTER/WIFE Marina down our throats. Next comes Bizzie-Bava tension, Rick and Beth starting to make up, and some pretty darn explicit Lillibuzz.

The complete episode link below is much clearer and has some additional scenes (and includes the phone call from Ed, with a Manny reference), but I left the multi-part version I found first in case the shorter clumps were easier for anyone to watch.
