Bauers 1956

August 2, 2017

I found this photo in a 1956 issue of TV Radio Mirror. I don’t have the complete date, but on the page it says Guiding Light was a gold medal winner. I couldn’t resist sharing this photo, especially because it not only has a beaming Bert and Papa Bauer, but also Awesome Sauce Mike Bauer as a kid.

The fat label reads:

Portrait of a three-time gold medal winner – a tense, true-to-life situation, and a fine cast. James Lipton plays Dr. Dick Grant (ed. note who was involved with Kathy White – Meta Bauer’s step-daughter) Theo Goetz is “Papa” Bauer, and Charita Bauer is Bertha (ed. note aka Bert) Bauer. Lynn Rogers plays the artist Maria Wallace (ed. note who becomes Dick’s second wife) and young Glenn Walken is the troubled Michael.

I’m a bit puzzled by the troubled Michael bit. This is the area of Guiding Light history where I am the weakest and I don’t know of anything happening bad to Mike. I’ve got to follow up on this.

This is the forty-ninth in an irregular feature where we will report updates on what cast members of Guiding Light are doing now. I’m playing catch up on some soap magazine news. So as a reminder you can buy back issues:

Recently put on Facebook: “As the second week of Terrell Tilford‘s (David Grant #3, brother to Gilly, son of hospital administrator Charles, friend to Bridget, coupled with Vicky Spaulding) I stage run in “Elmina’s Kitchen” comes to a close and the last two episodes of @vh1’s #SingleLadies sets to appear, we just want to thank everyone for their support!”

@itsonlythesoaps reminded us that Maeve Kinkead (Vanessa Chamberlain Reardon Lewis) ” wasn’t available the day filmed last episode scenes scheduled a vacation ahead of time.” Which is why we don’t see Vanessa again after the wedding, although we do see Billy.

Judi Evans (Beth Raines Spaulding #1) and Vincent Irizarry (Lujack/Nick McHenry) were photographed together June 14, 2012. Beth and Lujack were a popular couple until his death in an explosion.
Irizarry is also going to be in a Lifetime movie called Left to Die.

There was a round up of “Tales of Survival” on life threatening situations they survived by soap actors. It included Larkin Malloy (Kyle Sampson, an ex-fiancee of Reva’s and Billy’s half brother on his mother’s side) who survived a hit and run accident on Park Avenue.

And she posted a blog post about what she’s been up to.

Jeff Branson (Shayne Lewis #7, the last one) is returning to his role of Ronan on The Young and the Restless. Ronan has become something of a revolving door role as Branson continues to leave and then return for limited engagements. There is some speculation that John Driscoll (Coop Cooper #4) will follow him back in the role of Ronan’s half-brother, but that remains speculation at this point.

Nicole Forester (Cassie Layne #2) has moved to Michigan, is now the mother of two, and is starring in a cable show Boss.
