Bethany Joy Lenz (our dearly beloved Michelle Bauer Santos #4) guest starred on Grey’s Anatomy. The episode is called “1-800-799-7233.” It’s the winter premiere of the second half of the season (Season 14, Episode 9) and originally aired January 18, 2018. Her character’s name is Jenny. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt7043736/

Morgan Englund (Dylan Lewis, Billy and Reva’s son who ended up with Bridget) is the subject of a where are they now feature in the July 3, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest. After GL, Englund wanted to go into music, but he was a single father so he decided he needed something more regular. Following in Dylan’s shoes he became a first responder and then part of the fire department. Then in 2017 he decided to try to get into music again. About his connections to the Guiding Light cast he says “I just talked to Melissa Hayden [Bridget Reardon Lewis] yesterday because she’s hopefully going to be involved in some way with the video. We connect every couple of years and want to do something together. And every time I see Kim [Zimmer, Reva Shayne Lewis], we’re right back to where we were before, so there’s a lot of love there. I loved working with her and Jordan [Clarke, Billy Lewis]. Maureen Garrett [Holly Reade] and I also exchanged messages recently….GL didn’t hire just any people; [they cast] mostly theater actors, like [the late] Michael Zaslow [Roger Thorpe]. They were amazing actors to work with. I feel very fortunate.”

In the May 14, 2018 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth Sharon Newman’s Crimson Lights gets a shout out because – unlike Company in the last couple of years – people actually pay for what they eat. Go Sharon!

Joseph Campanella (a criminal named Joe Turino) died May 16, 2018. Campanella was an incredibly busy actor appearing on many shows on daytime, primetime, film, and the stage over the decades until his retirement in 2009. Guiding Light was his second regular series role and we was on between 1959-1960. I have to idea who this character was. I’m glad we got the name, but if anyone has more details, please share.

During the heighth of the Annie-Reva feud around when Annie faked Reva pushing her down the stairs, Suzanne Schwarzer (GL’s then costume designer) found a company called Annie Reva (in a total coincidence). She bought several of their pieces for the cast. Read more about it Soap Opera Weekly issue May 13, 1997. The article also spells out the complicated shooting of the actual fall. It mentions stunt woman Janet Paparazzo, director Bruce Barry, and stunt coordinator Peter Hock. It also looks as if Reva could actually be charged (it hasn’t happened, but hypothetically it could).

The May 27, 1997 issue of Soap Opera Weekly did a Where Are They Now? feature on Val Dufour. He left acting right after he left his role of attorney John Wyatt on Search for Tomorrow in 1980. He gave this great quote. “But the real challenge is the development of the characters and the day to day movability of it, because the writers change. I once told Mary Stuart (the last Meta Bauer on Guiding Light) that we should have been given an award for rewriting.”

Pratt was a soap jumper and covers a lot of ground, but offers this answer to how she got on Guiding Light “[EP] John Whitesell hired me. I went straight to a screen test because they knew I had that body of work with General Hospital. Working with Jay Hammer [Fletcher Reade] was awesome. We had such chemistry. I recently came across a picture with Jay where he’s hugging me and I had the most genuine smile. I was just so happy. I wish they had developed our storyline further, but there was a change in producers and writers, and Claire gave birth to Michelle and gave the baby to Ed and Maureen, and the next thing I knew I was off the show. A few months later I showed up in Pine Valley.” She’s right they had killer chemistry.

“The actresses did not overlap on GL, where Wright played Cassie from 1997-2005 and Rylan portrayed Lizzie from 2006-2009. Their characters were not related by blood, but Lizzie did have a child, Sarah, with Cassie’s nephew, Jonathan.”

Darnell Williams(Griggs, who shot Dinah and help Harley and Cyrus captive in St. Michael’s church tower) was featured in an ask us in the July 25, 1995 issue of Soap Opera Weekly. However, this is a catch-up of his roles since leaving AMC up to 1995. Williams had a short run on As the World Turns as Jack Devere, and now plays Jacob Johnson on Loving. After leaving AMC in 1988, the actor appeared in the TV-movie Stompin’ at the Savoy, and was a standby in the Broadway production of Angels in America.

From the Ask Us section of the October 27, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest. “Q: My sister and I were reminiscing about Guiding Light (we do that a lot!) and can’t remember all of the women who Josh Lewis was married to other than Reva. I would love a list. Thanks! Carolyn D. Buffalo, NY. — A: Josh’s first marriage, in 1987, was to the psychologically troubled Sonni Carrera. They split and he wed Reva in 1989. After her presumed death in 1990, Josh got engaged to Harley, but they never made it down the aisle. He tied the knot with nurse Annie Dutton in 1995, but the union was invalidated when Reva returned from the dead. Josh and Annie made it legal in 1996, but divorced in 1997 to a combination of her trickery and his ongoing love for Reva. When his 1999 marriage to Reva failed, Josh fell for Olivia; they wed in 2001, only to divorce that same year. After another stab at matrimony with Reva (2002-2007). Josh slipped a ring on her sister Cassie’s finger in 2007, but they called it quits the following year.”

Kim Zimmer Interview 2012

October 8, 2014

Egg Toss Winners, 1998

Egg Toss Winners, 1998

This video is an interview that was shown on a Texas PBS Station in 2012. It’s 27 minutes long.  It’s called Kim Zimmer on InnerVIEWS with Ernie Manouse (Season 10 Ep 8). It was uploaded in 2012 by the station that aired it so it probably was recorded close to that.  They go back to her first soap job and cover her career from there. Manouse apparently did A LOT of research, he asks very thorough and deep digging questions of all parts of her professional life.

Zimmer also talks about her love for theater and talks about how many soap people were theater people that wanted to spend their time there, but it didn’t play the bills. She talks about how she replaced Kathleen Turner and decided to come back and they kept Zimmer. Zimmer talks about her relationship with Pam Long. Long wrote really long story Bibles for 6 months out like it was a novel. Zimmer talks about how Michelle Forbes broke down on a scene with a bridge. At the end she talks about what went wrong with the new format. Those are just part of the highlights of this wide ranging interview.

Frank Grillo (Hart Jessup #5, the final Hart that was torn between Dinah and Cassie) appeared at the cinema Society and Gucci Guilty’s screening of Captain America: The Winter Solider. Find an awesome photo of him there in the May 19, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. If you want some classic Grillo look for a Christmas 1998 J. Crew catalog. He had a two page spread.

Did you know Anthony Addabbo (Jim LeMay, Susan/Daisy’s adoptive father) was the same guy who played Jonny Carrera/Rush (the guy who held Lauren Fenmore and Eric Forrester hostage after their plane crash back in 1998 on The Bold and the Beautiful)?
