Check out “The Guiding Light” pp 42-44 in Daytime TV Yearbook, no. 5 1974. It includes the cast at the time with individual photos and bios.

The November 4, 1986 issue of Soap Opera Digest featured an article on the effect of chaos and switching TPTB behind the scenes. They tell about what’s going on behind the scenes on Guiding Light in the mid-1980s.

I’m sure I mentioned this when this first came out, but I just came across the August 1, 2011 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. In a feature on characters who get back together to characters after they really should know better, Manny get a page and a half and several photos.

The quote was originally from 2002, but was quoted again in the April 15, 2013 issue of Soap Opera Digest about how nice TPTB were about letting her out of her contract.

recently tweeted a Soap Opera Digest classic cover featuring the Stenz Manny from May 18, 1999.
https://twitter.com/kyleo71/status/479824756188139520/photo/1

The 10 years ago story in the April 7, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth was about Michelle forgiving Ed for his role in Maryanne Carruther’s death and his actions to cover it up see it with a nice father daughter photo in the issue.

The flashback year of 1998 was featured in the June 9, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest. “After Joie Lenz made a Guiding Light splash as teen Clone Reva, she was tapped to replace Rebecca Budig as Michlle Bauer. Marj Dusay (Alexandra Spaulding) and Mary Kay Adams (India von Halkein) were rehired; Cynthia Watros (Annie Dutton) quit and was replaced by Signy Coleman: Paul Anthony Stewart (Danny Santos) and Brittany Snow (Susan LeMay Cooper) joined the cast.”

Ruby Dee (Martha Frazier, part of the groundbreaking first African-American core family) has passed away.
http://www.welovesoaps.net/2014/06/ruby-dee-dead-at-91.html

Karla Mosley (Christina Boudreau, with Remy, one of the last really good new couples in the final years of Guiding Light) shared her school memories with photos as part of a round up in the Sept. 9, 2013 issue of Soap Opera Digest. Mosley also told her the story of her first day on The Bold and the Beautiful where a miscommunication only gave her a half hour to get hair and make up done before she had to be on set. Read the whole story in the Feb. 10, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest. Mosley will appear in at least a total of 8 episodes of Hart of Dixie this season. Read more about it in the April 7, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. https://twitter.com/karlamosley/status/480508615850074113/photo/1

Lawrence Saint-Victor (Remy Boudreau) answered a round up question in the Oct. 21, 2013 issue of Soap Opera Digest about his first love scene. This was the Inside the Light episode where Alan Spaulding had supposedly come up with a magic, temporary memory eraser based on a novel by Henry “Coop” Cooper. There were several unlikely new couples of various kinds chemistry tested during the episode. My favorite was that Alan and Beth assumed they were father and daughter, this was when Alan wanted her to marry him. Then afterward it never happened.
“My [first] love scene on camera might be one of the most uncomfortable love scenes in daytime history. It was [on Guiding Light] in an episode where it was our first time experimenting heavily with the single-camera thing. It was a stand-alone episode where a lot of people lose their memory, and Remy and Lizzie, played by Emme Rylan [Lizzie Spaulding], wake up and they don’t know who each other is, but they’re in the bathroom and she wakes up with her head on his leg while his pants are down. There were no covers, no beds. I’m not going to tell who said this, but a producer on set that day was like, ‘This isn’t lovemaking, you’re *******’ and we’re like, ‘Oh, snap [laughs].’ And then, my grandma and little cousins were watching [when the episode aired]! They didn’t know what was coming up, and then it was like – BOOM!”

Terrell Tilford (David Grant #3, brother to Gilly, son of hospital administrator Charles, friend to Bridget, coupled with Vicky Spaulding) read a feature about his new role on The Young and the Restless in the June 9, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Jane Elliot (Carrie Marler, Ross’ beloved wife who went crazy) got a wardrobe revamp by former Guiding Light and current General Hospital costume designer Shawn Reeves. He said that in New York there is a whole range of clothing stores for a range of types and styles, but not so in LA. “In LA, it’s a little more specific. Obviously, the weather is more conducive to wearing lighter clothes. It’s a different look. So when it comes to a character like Tracy, that kind of person doesn’t really exist in Los Angeles anymore, so buying clothes for her is a little more challenging because the stores just don’t really carry her type of stuff, and if they do, it’s just prohibitively expensive and I can’t afford it in my budget. So it’s easier for me to go to one of the wonderful fabric stores in LA, buy the appropriate fabric and havee Maki, my stiticher, make these beautiful clothes for me. She made some wonderful new jackets for Tracy and other new pieces for her closet.” Read the rest of the story in the Oct. 14, 2013 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Daniel Cosgrove (Bill Lewis #4, part of the wonderful Bizzie pairing) was the subject of a feature article about his new role on Days of Our Lives in the March 3, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Crystal Hunt (Lizzie Spaulding Lewis #5 brought in Roxie the dog and romanced Coop) is going to be in “23 Blast” coming to theaters October 2014.
https://twitter.com/23Blast/status/477978804292710400/photo/1

Hunt (Lizzie Spaulding Lewis #5 brought in Roxie the dog and romanced Coop) has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon over an incident in December 2013 at a LA bar.

Kassie DePaiva (Chelsea Reardon, Maureen and Nola’s little sister) has just been cast as Eve Donovan on Days of Our Lives. They recently showed “Eve’s” high school yearbook and it included a high school photo of DePaiva. This detail was tweeted by

Frank Grillo (Hart Jessup #5, the final Hart that was torn between Dinah and Cassie) costarred as ubervillain Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Solider. He’s now a logo figurine.

Grillo will also be part of the new movie “” releasing on July 18, 2014.
https://twitter.com/FrankGrillo/status/481903796239364097/photo/1

Grant Aleksander (Phillip Spaulding #2, the one we knew most of the time) was featured in the classic quotes section of the Oct. 14, 2013 issue of Soap Opera Digest.
If I’m being honest, I took the part mainly because of the money. If the character hadn’t been as interesting. I would have done it anyway. You’ve got to put bread on the table.” – Aleksander on joining Capitol as DJ originally printed in the March 10, 1987 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Brody Hutzler (Zachary Smith, Michelle and Vanessa’s Angel) was the subject of a feature interview in the Oct. 14, 2013 issue of Soap Opera Digest. He reflects on his acting career both soap and non-soap, focusing on his latest role in the movie Wonderland that was released last year.

The Feb. 10, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest included a round up of soap stars and their pets including Karla Mosley (Christina Boudreau, with Remy, one of the last really good new couples in the final years of Guiding Light) and her two cats, Scooby and Scrappy and Kassie DePavia (Chelsea Reardon, the youngest Reardon daughter) and her dog Mochi. Daytime Emmy Nominations 2014

May 4, 2014

Since it’s no longer in production, Guiding Light fans haven’t had a lot to cheer from the Daytime Emmys since its last nomination in 2010. However, we do have a couple of reasons to be pleased with the just released nominations. Jane Elliot (Carrie Marler, Ross Marler’s true love before Blake, for which she deserves every acting award ever conceived) is the sole alumni to get any of the acting nods. Elliot is among five nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her iconic role of Tracy Quatermaine on General Hospital. Additionally Rebecca Budig (Michelle Bauer #3, part of the Messe pairing) also got a nomination for Outstanding Host in a Lifestyle/Travel Program as one of three co-hosts for syndicated The Better Show.

Read a complete list of the nominations direct from the Emmys website here:

Or find the soap opera related nominations from We Love Soaps.

NOTE: I’m better at spotting actors by name than crew so if I missed anybody please let me know so I can post a correction with or without credit as you prefer.

Soap Dude also pointed out that Rachel Miner (Michelle Bauer #2 – as the pre-teen Michelle she totally rocked which Joie Lenz really recaptured when she took over the role) appeared as Meg the demon in 3 episodes in Supernatural in 2009-2010. They talk about her role as Michelle here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001540
