This is the forty-sixth in an irregular feature where we will report updates on what cast members of Guiding Light are doing now. I’m playing catch up on some soap magazine news. So as a reminder you can buy back issues:

Sadly after 30 years, first run episodes of Guiding Light have stopped airing in Italy Wed., March 7, 2012. The last episode aired was #15084 (US original broadcast date January 11, 2007).

Find all sorts of classic Guiding Light photos from the 1970s in a 2 page layout within a story on 1970s fashions in the April 10, 2012 issue of Soap Opera Digest, especially look for the photo of the Bauer clan in 1972.

Michael O’Leary (Rick Bauer #5) is interviewed in the March 12, 2012 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. Not a lot of what he’s doing now will be unfamiliar to those who regularly read these round ups, but it’s a nice article with photos and the best news is it sounds like we haven’t seen the last of Steamboat after all. He’s also excited about the Soap Classics release, so hopefully he will join a tweet along soon.

Ellen Parker (Maureen Reardon Bauer #2) was on the Blue Bloods that originally aired March 9, 2012, “Reagan vs. Reagan.”

Jordi Vilasuso (Tony Santos #1) is having a fan event, Sun., April 15, 2012 7:30 pm. Butterfield 8 Restaurant and Lounge in Stamford, CT. For tickets call (203) 268-5857. There’s also an event in NYC on Sat., April 14, 2012 see information at link below:

Tammy Blanchard (Drew Jacobs) has just booked an arc on The Big C on Showtime.

Marcy Rylan (Lizzie Spaulding Lewis #6, part of the wonderful Bizzie pairing) was asked in the April 28, 2009 issue of Soap Opera Digest who her friends and family wanted to meet. She replied: “Ron Raines (Alan Spaulding #3) because he really is like a parent to me at Guiding Light. My family members have heard so much about him because he’s always supportive and normal and real and always gives me wonderful advice. They all know that I think he’s awesome and I don’t think they believe me because Alan is such a jerk on the show! People are always shocked when I tell them how sweet he is.”

In their feature on doomed weddings, CBS Soaps in Depth April 9, 2012 featured Ron Raines (Alan Spaulding #3) and Beth Chamberlain (Beth Raines #2) with a full 2 page layout.

Laura Bell Bundy (Marah Lewis #5) is featured in “Why They Really Left” in the April 9, 2012 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. She depicts her departure as much more mutual and less sudden than it was presented at the time. Basically she had some theater productions in the works and TPTB wanted to make Marah sexier. Get the whole story in CBS Soaps in Depth.

Ellen Dolan (Maureen Reardon Bauer #1) starred in the movie, The Southside.

Todd Manning (Roger Howarth‘s One Life to Live character) was trending on March 12, 2012 when he took on Sonny on General Hospital.

Also, included in a roundup of protest plots on soaps, is a photo of Guiding Light protesting the demolition of 5th Street in 1996. Bomer will be guest starring as Blaine’s big brother on Glee. See details in the March 26, 2012 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus Aitoro) was featured in the March 13, 2012 issue of Soap Opera Digest‘s “You Heard it Here.” He was originally quoted in the February 5, 1991 issue. “Until I was 6 or 7, I had an Irish accent. Till I was 11 or 12, I had an English accent. Still, a lot of my friends razz me about the way I pronounce certain words.”

Diggs was nominated for his role on Private Practice. His wife is Glee‘s Idina Menzel. See their photo in the April 9, 2012 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

As part of the celebration of the 15th Anniversary of CBS Soaps in Depth, staffers are recalling their favorite events. Michelle Moro Parkerton who used to be their Guiding Light editor told about giving Beth Ehlers (Harley Cooper) a ride home after a photo shoot. Parkeron relates “….it was so normal! Toys were scattered across the floor, her young sons were playing with the family dogs..it was truly a home…” See the rest of the story in April 9, 2012 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.
