Danny’s Meeting with Alan is a Bust Aug 22 2001

March 28, 2017

Check out my latest episode guide post.

I just want to say again that I don’t get why this whole part of the story is played on fast forward. Not only couldn’t Claire wait until Alan gets back to even ask him, Danny has done virtually NOTHING to find a job other than expect someone will give him one. It’s WAY too early to be discouraged. I mean I know usually on soaps someone just hands you a job, but he hasn’t even given them a chance to do it yet.

Wed., Aug. 22, 2001 – At the Bauer House: Danny is dressed in a nice suit for his interview at Spaulding. Michelle thinks Alan will hire Danny on the spot. Rick thinks it is great that Danny is striking out into the legit world. Danny goes to Towers for his meeting. Gus comes in and sees Danny. Gus asks Danny what is he is dressed as, Danny tells him that he is dressed as a success, the complete opposite of Gus. Danny heads over to Tobias. Gus meets with a woman who slips him his FBI badge he left in DC. He tells her that no one in Springfield knows he is really still FBI and very much on the case. The woman tells him he can’t play the private investigator forever and get away with it. Gus tells her that he could play Santa Claus in this town and the people would buy it. Gus tells the woman that Carmen Santos is alive and he will take her down along with all the other Santoses. Gus tells her that he blew the first case but now he can bring all the mob families in Springfield down at once. Danny is talking to Tobias about his qualifications when Alan calls. Tobias tells Alan that he is with Danny and things are going well. Danny steps away and  goes to the bar to see Michelle and Claire while Alan tells Tobias that the meeting is unauthorized. When Danny returns to Tobias, the man is mean to him and tells him that he is trying to scam him just as any Santos would. He leaves and Danny glares at Claire. He goes over to Michelle and Claire and tells Michelle that Claire set him up. Now he will be bad mouthed to every legit business in town. Michelle asks Claire why she would lie to them. Claire thought it would work out.

[Ed. Note: I’m not sure this could still be part of the 22nd or it could be on to the 23rd. I think it’s probably the 22nd] Danny takes Michelle to Infierno. He watches Tony giving orders and tells Michelle that he misses be the one running things. It’s HIS club. He built it up.

My Comments:
I think the Bauers should get a restraining order against Gus. Change passwords every month? I love you Danny, but I think the writers needed a bit more research on what this job would do. I still don’t think what Claire actually thought was going to happen here and it’s unfortunate because Danny hadn’t asked for any of this. I understand that this guy was caught out to, but for someone who is used to working with Spaulding, this attitude, I hope Danny gets him fired later. This isn’t a favorite scene because I don’t like things going wrong for Danny and that Michelle doesn’t already know this, but I do love that Danny tells her and that the show takes time to SHOW him telling her. I get that Danny feels entitled, but really he hasn’t actually spoken to a head hunter yet, filled out an application, or created an updated resume. It’s a bit early to be giving up.

Celebration and Chair Slide Aug 21 2001

January 24, 2017

Check out my latest episode guide post.

chair-slide

Tues., Aug. 21, 2001 – At the Bauer House: Everyone is celebrating Danny’s release, drinking champagne and toasting each other.

Danny: “Well, Ross, no offense you did a great job, but I think the real hero of my trial is Michelle. So to my amazing wife if not for your incredible stubborness….and determination I wouldn’t be here right now. I love you.”

Frank tells them that they still have to protect Michelle until Carmen is caught. Claire demands the police keep eyes on Manny until Carmen is caught, but Frank says he doesn’t have the budget for it. Danny pulls Frank to the side and asks him why he is acting angry towards him. Frank is upset that he punched him and escaped. Danny tells him he had to get to Michelle and he’d only decked him to cover him with his higher ups. Frank tells him if he wants to go straight he should concentrate on “following the law, not bending it.” Frank punches Danny and Tony comes in ready to hurt him. Danny laughs and tells Tony is it alright and Frank tells him they are even. Catalina tells Tony that the system works and she hopes he sees that. (As much as I dislike Catalina – calling her Cat is cute.) Tony tells her Michelle and Blake got Danny off, not the system. Just then Gus pokes his head in to greet the family. Gus comes in and tells everyone that there are so many cops on their side, it isn’t any wonder that Danny beat the rap. Tony doesn’t take Gus’s snide comments very well.

Danny: “Tony, Tony. It’s OK EX-Agent Aitoro is just yanking your chain. He knows full well that the videotape was real that Carmen is alive. He just can’t admit that because it means he lost.”

Michelle: “I think you may have to say that a little LOUDER because I think EX-Agent Aitoro has a problem hearing.”

Danny: “Oh, he heard me. Everyone in this room knows he lost, so please, please stay. Have a little champagne. Nothing will make this celebration sweeter than having you witness our happiness. A toast to EX-Agent Gus Aitoro I’m a free man today because of your blind vengance and your total incompetence. By all means keep up the good work.”

Gus leaves and everyone claps. Manny are estastic. Outside, Gus makes a call. Meanwhile, Blake tells Ross how brilliant he was. Ross tells Blake that he has lost his edge and that he feels he is growing old. He tells Blake that she, Danny and Michelle won the case, not him. Claire congratulates Michelle and Danny but tells Michelle how nuts she was to go after Carmen. Michelle tells Claire that she wouldn’t have had to if she hadn’t helped the prosecution. Danny tells Michelle how Claire helped him locate her at the airport. Claire tells her that she had to tell him to protect her. Michelle thinks they are very alike when it comes to protecting those they love. Claire offers to go ahead and set up that meeting with him and Alan. Danny is reluctant but Michelle thinks he can do a lot of things for Spaulding. Claire goes to call Alan. Michelle tells Danny she thinks it is a good thing and may turn into something. Claire calls and asks his assistant Sally to put her through to Alan. Sally tells Claire that Alan doesn’t have her on the list of people he wants to talk to. Claire is ticked. She goes back to Danny and Michelle and tells them that everything is fine and Danny has an interview first thing in the morning. Claire walks away and calls the Spaulding head of security. Everyone has FINALLY left leaving Michelle and Danny alone. Danny takes Michelle in his arms, spooning her and nibbling on her ear, neck, and shoulder. Michelle: “It’s over and you are free and we are going to start a whole new life together!” Danny is worried about Tony and where his head is. Michelle just wants to focus on the positive and getting on with their lives.

Cue couple theme song – Michelle sits down on Danny on the chair.

Danny: “I’m so lucky to have you. You stuck by me, worked so hard and saved my neck.”

Michelle: “You did the same for me, although I do have ONE request.”

Danny: “What?””

Michelle: “I don’t ever, EVER set foot on those docks again.”

Danny: “You’re telling me. Thank God you’re OK. Thank God you’re OK.”

Michelle: “Hey! What’s going on? You’re supposed to be happy there.”

Danny: “I am. I am. I just didn’t think this day would ever come.”

Michelle: “OH I did.”

Danny: “How do you do that? You always keep the faith, all the time.”

Michelle: “It’s, uh, it’s called love.”

Danny: “Do you know how much I love you? How much I love our little boy? How just the idea of being apart from you maybe forever was…..”

Michelle: “Don’t!”

Danny: “I almost lost you.”

Michelle: “Danny…”

Danny: “I almost lost Robbie.”

Michelle: “You’re never going to lose us, not now, not ever.”

Danny: “It’s so hard to believe that. We’ve just been living like this for so long. Always waiting for us to be able to live our lives.”

Michelle: “And it’s finally happened. It HAS happened and I just want to celebrate with you, you know.”

Michelle tells Danny it’s too bad everyone else is gone so…

Michelle: “We have the whole house to ourselves, ALL afternoon. What are we going to do?”

Danny: “What if I take you upstairs and show you how much I love you?”

Michelle slides over on top of Danny up his chest and between his legs….the chair slide.

My Comments: Now I love Buzz and Frank I truly do, but honestly it gets a little ridiculous how they start taking over all the Bauer parties. Honestly I’d much rather have had Meta there and Robbie than Frank. And we have to have Greek music when a Cuban somba, an Irish jig, or a German polka would be more fitting for the family that actually lives in the house. Nice line unnaturally put there for real life, but deftly explains why neither Meta nor Robbie are at the party before anybody asks. It’s kind of nice they did include Claire. But GOOD GRIEF do we have to have Catalina contaminating every single storyline group shot? Whether it’s Santos, Bauer, Lewis, or even Cooper – BAM! – there she is. Loving Claire’s beautiful pantsuit. I realize it must be hard on Frank to be Danny’s friend – I mean honestly he is always a better friend to Danny than Danny is to him – but in this case if Danny had listened to Frank Michelle would have been dead no ifs ands or buts so take a chill pill. That said I think Danny owed Frank that punch, but he COULD have waited until after the party. I mean WHAT is it with Gus and just constantly tresspassing on the Bauers? They don’t like him and for good reason. I can get him baiting them in public and MAYBE even if he knocked first or even walked in a standing open door, but he’s always entering without the owner’s position. Claire keeps pushing Danny to set up a meeting with Alan. I know how she feels I’ve pushed someone to let me do something and then realized I couldn’t do it when they finally said OK.

I don’t understand though WHY did they push it quite this quick. They could have taken a week or so off the front burner. Why did Claire tell Danny she actually had an appointment immediately when she didn’t? She couldn’t say next week?

Anthony Addabbo (Jim LeMay – Daisy’s adoptive dad, Beth’s husband who died in a house fire caused by a Christmas tree, James Spaulding was named for) has passed away. His other big daytime role was as the scary guy Tony “Rush” Carrera on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Ellen Dolan (Maureen Reardon Bauer #1, Michelle’s adopted mom) is featured in an interview in the November 28, 2016 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. She’s been doing some independent films including some filmed in her home state of Iowa. The latest is His Neighbor Phil. Dolan is better known for her longer run as Margo Hughes on As the World Turns. She has recently returned to New York and she hopes to appear in more mainstream productions too.

Susan Pratt (Claire Ramsey, Michelle’s biological mom) is a featured interview in the October 10, 2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest. Pratt was a soap jumper and covers a lot of ground, but offers this answer to how she got on Guiding Light “[EP] John Whitesell hired me. I went straight to a screen test because they knew I had that body of work with General Hospital. Working with Jay Hammer [Fletcher Reade] was awesome. We had such chemistry. I recently came across a picture with Jay where he’s hugging me and I had the most genuine smile. I was just so happy. I wish they had developed our storyline further, but there was a change in producers and writers, and Claire gave birth to Michelle and gave the baby to Ed and Maureen, and the next thing I knew I was off the show. A few months later I showed up in Pine Valley.” She’s right they had killer chemistry.

Jordi Vilasuso (Tony Santos #1)  and Roger Howarth (Jory Andros, Eleni’s brother in 1992) have a great photos as part of the question roundup in the September 12, 2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest. The same issue also has Vilasuso answering questions about him in high school as part of a roundup.

In the September 26, 2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest, they recap what was going on in the soap world in 1987. Here is the Guiding Light summary. “The Cooper family hit Springfield in the form of Harley and Frank. Sarah Shayne was introduced. Joe Willmore was the show’s new EP, replacing Gail Kobe, Pamela K. Long returned as head writer… Guiding Light celebrated its 50th anniversary. Reva gave birth to Marah her daughter with Josh, but believed the baby was sired by Kyle – and Alan kept the truth underwraps. Josh was floored by the arrival of his presumed-dead wife, troubled Sonni. Harley gave up newborn daughter Daisy for adoption. Billy and Vanessa split. Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne Lewis) won her second Daytime Emmy as Lead Actress.”

In the October 27, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest they recap the soap world in 2003. Here is the Guiding Light summary. “Guiding Light rehired Bradley Cole, this time as Jeffery a Richard look-alike; Stephen Martines (as Coltin Scott renamed himself) replaced Jordi Vilasuso as Tony: Jean Carol (Nadine Cooper) and Signy Coleman (Annie Dutton); Maureen Garrett (Holly Lindsey Reade), Elizabeth Keifer (Blake Marler), and Beth Chamberlain (Beth Raines Spaulding) were dropped to recurring….Ross and Blake remarried on GL, as did Danny and Michelle….GL serial killer Ben Reade committed suicide…GL’s Gus learned that he is Alan’s son; Olivia secretly gave birth to Phillip’s daughter, Emma; Marah’s crush, Sandy, turned out to be Jonathan (her half brother)….Reva became telepathic on FL; Beth paired up with Jeffery…Jordi Vilasuso won the Younger Actor Daytime Emmy…. John Conboy took over as GL’s EP; when Millee Taggart quit as head writer, she was succeeded by Ellen Weston who was soon joined by Donna Swajeski…”

Kassie DePaiva (Chelsea Reardon, Maureen and Nola’s little sister) reports she’s been battling Myeloid Leukemia. http://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/dayss-depaiva-battling-leukemia/ DePaiva was the focus of the Take 5 in the October 27, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Daniel Cosgrove (Bill Lewis #4, part of the wonderful Bizzie pairing) has returned to Days of Our Lives in his role as Aiden – turns out the one who tried to kill Hope was an evil twin courtesy of surgery. He talks dressing rooms in the May 23,2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest. Cosgrove is once again leaving Days and has a new project Project Dad, A Chicken Soup for the Soul Original with Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus Aitoro) as an executive producer.

Emme Rylan (Lizzie Spaulding Lewis #6, part of the wonderful Bizzie pairing) broke her nose will playing with her sons. Read more in the September 12, 2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest. They attended middle school and high school together according to the April 4, 2016 issue of CBS Soaps in DepthMosley gets a resume run down in the Ask Us section of the September 12, 2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Mackenzie Mauzy (Lizzie Spaulding #3, the one after she had cancer) has a feature interview as part of a round up in the March 28, 2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest. Mauzy also played Phoebe Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Emme Rylan (Lizzie Spaulding Lewis #6, part of the wonderful Bizzie pairing) and Laura Wright (Cassie Layne Winslow) are featured in a “Ask Us” question in the March 28, 2016 issue of Soap Opera Digest. The reader wants to know if they were on Guiding Light at the same time and if their characters are related.
“The actresses did not overlap on GL, where Wright played Cassie from 1997-2005 and Rylan portrayed Lizzie from 2006-2009. Their characters were not related by blood, but Lizzie did have a child, Sarah, with Cassie’s nephew, Jonathan.”

Darnell Williams(Griggs, who shot Dinah and help Harley and Cyrus captive in St. Michael’s church tower) was featured in an ask us in the July 25, 1995 issue of Soap Opera Weekly. Previously Williams had created the iconic soap role of Jesse Hubbard on All My Children…a role he would eventually return to in the waning days of the soap. However, this is a catch-up of his roles since leaving AMC up to 1995. Williams had a short run on As the World Turns as Jack Devere, and now plays Jacob Johnson on Loving. After leaving AMC in 1988, the actor appeared in the TV-movie Stompin’ at the Savoy, and was a standby in the Broadway production of Angels in America.

From the Ask Us section of the October 27, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest. “Q: My sister and I were reminiscing about Guiding Light (we do that a lot!) and can’t remember all of the women who Josh Lewis was married to other than Reva. I would love a list. Thanks! Carolyn D. Buffalo, NY. — A: Josh’s first marriage, in 1987, was to the psychologically troubled Sonni Carrera. They split and he wed Reva in 1989. After her presumed death in 1990, Josh got engaged to Harley, but they never made it down the aisle. He tied the knot with nurse Annie Dutton in 1995, but the union was invalidated when Reva returned from the dead. Josh and Annie made it legal in 1996, but divorced in 1997 to a combination of her trickery and his ongoing love for Reva. When his 1999 marriage to Reva failed, Josh fell for Olivia; they wed in 2001, only to divorce that same year. After another stab at matrimony with Reva (2002-2007). Josh slipped a ring on her sister Cassie’s finger in 2007, but they called it quits the following year.”

Dreama Walker (Janie Walker, she appeared in 2 episodes that IMDB puts in 2007) will be on a mid-season CBS replacement On Doubt. Read more in the September 26, 2016 episode of Soap Opera Digest.

Claire Ramsey Turning Point 2001

September 22, 2016

Claire Ramsey circa 2001I have mentioned before that back when Claire Ramsey was with Fletcher Reade I loved her to death. I was excited when I heard Claire was coming back, but I must admit I was disappointed. Claire came back with all of her negative traits in place and not much in the way of what had once made her great as a person, although she remained a great doctor.

Claire’s storyline of wanting to be a respectable and connected Bauer was a good one, except they never explained why Claire suddenly became so obsessed with it. Claire trying to connect with Michelle, but expecting Michelle to do things her way was in character, but didn’t really explain why all she suddenly wanted was Rick. Also, a reason why Claire wanted to get out of Chicago, the loss of a major grant or something wouldn’t have gone amiss.

Then they gave her an independent story away from Manny and the Bauers which was a great thing. They paired her with Alan Spaulding who was also getting a cold shoulder from his kids at the time so with that and their scheming, manipulative ways and similar intelligence and culture they were a great couple. I mean it wasn’t the romance of the century, but it put Alan with someone he considered an equal and they supported each other and connected to most storylines across the canvas encouraging their involvement likely in any of them that the writers currently wanted. They were a fun couple who were soap rich splashy, and could equally be compelling trying to do right by their kids or doing something selfish and horrible.

Sadly TPTB didn’t see things the same way. They had temporarily resolved the Reva-Josh-Olivia Spencer triangle in Jolivia’s favor and needed a new spoiler. So for reasons that were never clear to me Alan got obsessed with Olivia. I’m not overstating the case. He eventually even blackmails Olivia into sleeping with him. Alan was so better than that I can only describe this entire storyline as mental illness on his part. Alan slowly became more and more obsessed with Olivia to the point of turning his back to his family. With that as the writer’s game plan, Claire was surplus to requirements. So Alan refused to even have a meeting with Danny about the job like Claire asked which I’d have thought he’d done as a courtesy to people he knew far more than Claire, but the whole point was to show Claire and Alan were over and to have Danny create his own opportunity for a new chance.

Claire doesn’t disappear immediately, but after this it was a steady downhill stride. Her last appearance is still about a year out August 16, 2002, but never again would she really be a focus of story.

Mindy is the Sampson Girl March 10 1986

September 8, 2016

We have a short run of episodes available after the Bert Bauer Memorial Service. This should be the following Monday. Happily these are mostly important to Michelle’s history. This one is the exception. However, it continues the day of the memorial service and we learn a lot about where Rick’s life is right now just as he’s getting close to becoming a doctor. We get some great stuff today of seeing Mindy Lewis as the Sampson Girl including Dick Cavett’s second appearance on the show. If you wonder what happened to Kurt and Mindy after having the most beautiful soap wedding ever. Here you go — and see I TOLD you about their obsession with this house. There is a lot of Jessie and Simon today for people who enjoy them. In the next few episodes we’ll see the fight for custody of Michelle start to move to center stage. I’m sorry they don’t keep going longer, but really this is a nice little run.

March 10 1986

Mindy on Dick Cavett

Mindy on Dick Cavett

Mindy as the Sampson Girl is being interviewed by Dick Cavett (a real TV interview star). Cavett served as Master of Ceremonies for the  Sampson Girl Contest. Beth traveled with Mindy to help her. Jackson also came as part of the series of show biz stories they ran through back then. Back when talk shows were as big as judge shows are now and actually featured interesting topics and conversations, Dick Cavett was one of the best.

Simon and Jessie are still in jail. Ironically Simon was a criminal, but IS innocent this time. A count of the cash register shows it $50 short which backs Simon’s story.

Rick shows up with his study buddy friend Amber and Roxie tries to get him to tell her about what went on with Amber, but he covers not wanting her to know the part about his drug.

Not sure who these day players are taking screen time with a lame pick-up.  There are a lot of slight line gaffes today. Kurt implies both that he’s going to call the police and go down there.

Simon continues to try to protect Jessie and work Alexandra.

Mindy says she spent a lot of time on H.B.’s ranch growing  up and learned to “ride and shoot with the best of them.” Mindy: “Springfield is part big city and part small town.”

Jackson intercepts Kurt’s message. Jackson is currently working on breaking up Mindy and Kurt. I don’t approve of why he’s doing it, but I approve of the aim.

When Roxie had amnesia she ended up in Alaska which is what brought Kurt to town in the first place. Reva has forgiven Hawk for frequently and finally abandoning them as children. Roxie has taken a firmer stance as the younger sibling remembering less of the father and more of the hurt. Hawk does get a job there and works at Company for the next few years.

Mindy and Dick get publicity shots. Dick again encourages Mindy to be a guest again soon. Calla (Jessie’s mother, Lillian’s sister) shows up and is furious. Her whole plan for coming to town was to marry Jessie off to someone rich and socially connected (hopefully Phillip Spaulding) as Calla’s own ticket to wealth and prominence. Simon pushes the con by telling Alex she has to accept him right now or he’s leaving town.

Somehow Fletcher and Reva who is working for the newspaper have become best friends. Reva’s sick stranger violently refuses medical aid.

Rick’s “friend” takes the torn pieces of the illegal amphetamines (speed) prescription from Rick’s table and says to himself he’ll give them to Claire for a reward. They’ll be ammunition for the custody case for Michelle.

This was during the time when the continued one of the scenes under the credits. It’s my favorite credit style because it really makes you feel like life goes on in Springfield when the cameras aren’t rolling. They did it on As the World Turns also.

Michelle and Danny Search For Carmen Aug 9 10 2001

September 2, 2016

Check out our latest episode guide post.

Charter Fragment

Thurs., Aug. 9, 2001 – At Company: Frank and Buzz are talking when Michelle comes in. She asks to speak to Frank. She tells Frank that she found out some more on her theory of Carmen. She tells him about the intern, Jennifer Tarver, that disappeared from the ER the night Carmen died and she never came back. Frank still doubts the theory. Michelle asks him to follow up on the intern. Michelle is sure about this. Frank tells her that he has a bad feeling about this. She begs him to help her prove it. Michelle tells Frank to think of Robbie and help them. He finally agrees to help. He is going to try to find the intern. Michelle asks him not to say anything to Danny and Frank agrees. He leaves and Michelle looks at the paper she found in the interns belongings and leaves. Danny and Tony meet outside. Tony tells Danny he has been looking into things and he has Romeo on Lucas. Danny tells him that they have to hurry for Michelle’s sake. Romeo comes in with Lucas Carmichael, a former flunky of Carmen’s who was paid to purger himself testifying against Danny, with a serious gambling problem. Romeo leaves and Danny asks Lucas who paid him off. Lucas tries to leave and Tony reminds him of the $80,000 he owes Infierno. Lucas tells him he has money coming. They offer to pick up his marker at the club if he answers some questions. The guy tells them that he got a message shortly after Carmen’s death that told him to go to a shack in Laurel Falls. He tells them he got there and someone put a blindfold on him. They took him inside and told him to go down to the docks and throw something in the water. It was a canvas bag that was heavy that had metal clanging inside. He dumped the bag and stripped the car. He also remembers he smelled roses at the shack. Lucas leaves and Danny tells Tony that Carmen always wore “Royal Rose” perfume. He knows Carmen is alive but for now they should keep it to themselves. Danny comes inside Company and tells Frank he needs his help. At Laurel Falls: Michelle comes upon the shack while thinking back to the night Carmen died. She goes into the shack and looks around. She doesn’t find anything and starts to leave when a bat flies through and scares her. She runs outside and thinks she didn’t find anything. She remembers the woodstove inside and goes back to search it. Michelle finds a piece of paper that says Springfield Airport. It’s part of a logo from an invoice or a piece of letterhead and it says “and Sons Air Charter” at the Springfield Airport.

Fri., Aug. 10, 2001 – At Company: Danny asks for Frank’s help. David sticks his nose in the conversation and tells Danny that if it is official he can talk to him as well. Danny tells them that he thinks Michelle may be in trouble, he believes Carmen is still alive. Claire calls Michelle on the phone: “Ever get a feeling that you can’t shake, like someone you love is about to jump off a high rise?”  David accuses Danny of trying to play them to save his own hide. Frank tells Danny that Michelle is thinking the same thing and investigating herself. Danny is getting upset and tells Frank that if Carmen is alive, Michelle is in danger and he needs his help. Frank doesn’t really believe the theory of Carmen being alive, but knows that if she were Danny would be right to worry about Michelle’s safety. Frank tells Danny about the intern Michelle wants him to find. David thinks the whole thing is bunk and thinks Frank is crazy to listen to it. Danny tells Frank that all this time they haven’t had a trace of Carmen and now all of the sudden there are clues popping up all over about her being alive. He knows his mother and tells Frank that she covers her tracks unless she wants to be found. He thinks she is setting Michelle up. Frank tells him he will look into the intern thing but that is all he can do. He leaves and David goes to make some calls while watching Danny. Danny tries over and over to get Michelle on her cell but there is no answer. Claire comes over and tells Danny that she has talked to Michelle and she thinks she is after Carmen. She also tells him that while she was on the phone she heard an announcement for a plane to Montreal. Danny leaves. At the Airport: Michelle tries to get an airport employee to tell her about a chartered airline. She showed them the paper she located at Laurel Falls with the letterhead of the airline and asks to speak to the man in charge. While she is waiting, Claire calls and begs her to let her help. Michelle tells her she will talk to her later and ends the call. Shortly after, the head of the airline comes over and she asks him if he can tell her who chartered their plane on a certain date last year. He tells her he can’t help her with his private clients. Michelle pretends to start crying and then spins a story about looking for her birth mother because she is dying and needs a transplant. The man tells her he will check his records for her. He brings out the record book and verifies that an injured woman traveled on the dates she was talking about from Springfield to Bear Lake, Canada. Michelle asks him how fast he can get her there. He goes to check and brings back a ticket on a commercial airline that will take Michelle to Montreal and from there his man will meet with her and take her on to Bear Lake. Michelle thinks it’s a little odd he’s suddenly so helpful, but thanks him and goes to board the plane. She passes one of Carmen’s thugs and seems to recognize him. She goes on to the plane. The thug calls someone and tells him or her that Michelle is on her way. Danny arrives at the airport and begs them to get his wife off the plane. They tell him he can’t go on the plane without a ticket and he throws a credit card at the stewardess telling her to sell him one. David has followed him and goes over and arrests Danny. Danny yells out for Michelle to get off the plane. Meanwhile, at the shed in Laurel Falls, Carmen is happy that Michelle is on her way to Canada. Just then Michelle burst in the shack and tells Carmen she didn’t take the bait.

My Comments: I tell you whenever Danny and Michelle hide things from each other bad stuff happens, even when it’s to protect each other. This is a great example of that. I love Michelle working Frank – upset he didn’t think of it first (Frank never solves anything), that Robbie would be growing up without a father like Frank did. I love it when they key into history in conversations between characters who’ve known each other a long time. I’m sorry Frank didn’t tell Danny right away though. He knows the trouble these two can get into when they aren’t together. Claire is acting like she might have if she and Fletcher had stayed together and raised Michelle. I’m so sorry this is it. I’m a little surprised Claire doesn’t follow Michelle’s train of thought faster though. Claire can be a good detective in her own right. I’m glad they brought up Lucas Carmichael again. It’s nice to use a loose end. I truly hate that they dump all this bad stuff on Laurel Falls. Laurel Falls deserves better than this. I’m sorry that David picked this moment to swing back obsessed with getting the Santos family. He could at least have checked the plane. This cliffhanger is really great because this is the first time that viewers find out for sure that it IS Carmen and she’s alive.

Typical Evening With Claire and Michelle

August 11, 2016

Ed Takes Michelle from Claire 1986One of the things that comes up a lot having to do with Michelle’s history is was Michelle a bad mother? Before all this happened when Claire Ramsey was with Fletcher Reade before he broke her – and broke my heart I never forgave him – Claire was smart, funny, strong, but vulnerable. You wouldn’t know any of that from this.

In this clip from March 11, 1986 Claire, who has just overheard Maureen and Ed want full custody of Michelle is scheming to keep her. However, she really doesn’t want to take care of her. Claire seems to think of Michelle as a doll. Claire wants to play with Michelle at Claire’s convenience and be able to stick her in back in the box when Claire has other things to do. Claire doesn’t want to take care of her.

Claire has been conspiring to get the goods on Rick and is “rewarding” one of her students for helping with her plan on the couch. Michelle starts crying and Claire said she’s going to ignore her. Her crying is so strong that Ed hears it across the courtyard at the Bauer House, comes over to the garage apartment, and in a move FAR more typical of his awesome brother Mike, bursts open the door, goes and gets Michelle and strides out completely ignoring Claire. In fact Ed strides so fast this blur is the best screen shot I could get of it.

That’s not the end of this story. Claire intends to fight for Michelle and she plans to fight dirty. I’ve got more of this story coming, but I wanted to give anyone a heads up on what a typical Michelle and Claire evening at home was like.

Peek at Baby Michelle

July 25, 2016

Michelle’s babyhood was contentious. She was the product of grief sex between Claire Ramsey and Ed Bauer when they thought Fletcher Reade and Maureen Bauer had been killed in a terrorist attack. Luckily they were wrong, but they covered up their mistake for the sake of their relationships. Eventually everyone figured out what happened. Fletcher dumped Claire and broke Claire and my heart. Maureen was hurt, but stood with Ed and took on a lot of the childcare of Michelle right from the beginning.

I had adored Claire when she was with Fletcher, but honestly she was broken and frankly Michelle was not safe in her care. That said this particular clip shows a nice bit when Claire is taking care of Michelle on her own. Michelle is a happy baby on a rocking horse and I thought everyone here would enjoy it.

The scene takes place in the garage apartment at the Bauer House. Claire lived there at the time and had moved in again in 2001 until she moved in with Alan.

I was a Michelle fan from the very beginning so I was delighted to find this happy little peek at Baby Michelle.

Will There Be a Mistrial August 2 2001

July 22, 2016

Thurs., Aug. 2, 2001 – At the Bauer House: Danny and Michelle are still celebrating. We start with a just terriffic walk through of the Bauer kitchen. You want to see the Bauer kitchen in the early 2000s this is probably your best bet. Danny is singing he’s so happy as they work together to make breakfast. They discuss the case and that it’s likely Aitoro will be fired.

Danny: “…I feel like I can breathe again. Like I don’t have a million fingers pointing at me. Like I can make love to my wife.[breaks off kissing her]…I even slept last night.”

Michelle: Laughs “No you didn’t.” Kisses and laughter continue.

Danny: “I LOVE this counter.”

Michelle is pleased Danny is in a happy and optimistic mood. They read the newspaper together and the headlines say that the feds are embarrassed by tainted evidence in the Santos case. The article goes on to say that the feds will not retry the case if it there is a mistrial. It also states that they will not pursue any charges against Michelle. Danny is happy that Michelle is cleared at least. Michelle thinks after it is all over they should take Robbie on his first vacation to celebrate. Danny thinks Robbie wouldn’t remember the vacation, so they should take the vacation themselves, alone. Danny: “We can rent a boat and sail the Caribbean. We could go to Hawaii. You always wanted to go to Hawaii.” Michelle wonders who would tend to Robbie. Danny thinks Meta would do it. Just then Meta and Claire come in and Claire tells them that she would love to watch Robbie. Michelle tells Claire to go home. Claire understands that Michelle is still angry but she insists the only reason she talked to the feds was because she wanted to protect Michelle. She congratulate them exposing Gus. Claire says if the judge rules it a mistrial Danny will be free too. Michelle didn’t believe her sincerity but Claire insists she wants Danny to be free. She tells Michelle that Gus was on a mission and no one could stand in his way. Meta isn’t impressed. Claire asks Michelle for a chance to make things right. She wants to babysit for Robbie. Michelle isn’t ready for that and Danny tells her they are trying to start over. Claire thinks that Danny might want to try a new career and offers to set up a meeting with him and Alan. Meta tells Claire that Danny doesn’t need her or Alan and Danny says he doesn’t want to talk to Alan. Michelle says they will pass on the offer. Claire says the truth is she wants to be part of Michelle’s life. She has made horrible mistakes and seems to keep making them. Nothing has been right since she gave her up as a baby but that shouldn’t stop Danny from at least talk to Alan. Claire thinks Danny could start a new life for his wife and son. She wonders if someone else made the offer would they not consider it? She offers again to set up a meeting with Danny and Alan and Danny finally agrees to meet with him. Michelle is humming their theme song when Danny comes back down. Danny kisses her and tells her he is glad she’s happy. He tells Michelle that he told Claire he would meet with Alan to get rid of her but he thinks he will really meet with him and see what he says. Ross arrives and Michelle asks him if he saw the newspaper. Ross says the judge ruled against a mistrial and now the jury has to decide if what Danny did was justifiable. Michelle and Danny are disappointed.

My Comments: I truly enjoy this episode the morning after the counter encounter is almost as good as it is. Danny is just SO dang happy it makes you smile. The fact that he’s actually singing. Michelle is humming with happiness. I think that this is how their everyday life would be. There’s a Springfield Journal. I’m still on a quest to get one of those. This one would be perfect if only it had a photo of them. It would still be close to perfect. In Claire’s defense, while I think Michelle is right I think Claire actually BELIEVES she did it for Michelle. This is a beginning of a turning point both for Claire and the Manny storyline.

Claire Wants Custody of Robbie June 28 2001

September 15, 2015

Note: Another really important beat I don’t have any footage for yet. The part with the dream was already in previous highlight clips, but none of the stuff with Claire has shown up.

Thurs., June 28, 2001 – At the Bauer House: Danny and Michelle are trying to keep busy so they won’t think of the grand jury. Danny doesn’t want to imagine being away from her; neither does Michelle. Danny had a dream about her and the baby being chased while he was in jail and couldn’t help them. Michelle says when you don’t deal with problems your subconscious does. Claire comes in and tells them that the grand jury was terrible and they shouldn’t be optimistic. She tells them that however bad they think the hearing was they should multiply it by ten. She says she tried to help Danny but they tricked her and got exactly what they wanted. Michelle is angry and accused Claire of giving them up. Claire says the prosecutor was relentless and had the prison logs and knew she visited Carmen. Claire had to admit to signing the death certificate so Carmen could avoid the witness protection program. Michelle and Danny are angry that Claire told the truth and accuse her of saving herself. Claire says she begged Michelle to make a deal too. Michelle says she couldn’t do that even if it means losing her freedom. Claire says that is still a possibility and they need to make plans. They ask what she means and she tells them she wants to know who will take care of Robbie if they are both gone? Michelle asks if Claire is suggesting she get custody. She thinks Claire has some nerve. Claire says she doesn’t want them to go to prison but they have to think of Robbie. Meta is getting older and Rick is single. Michelle asks if Claire even held her before she gave her up. She tells her that she doesn’t belong in Robbie’s life and she will make sure that she isn’t. Michelle tells Claire she would rather see Robbie in the state’s custody then with her. She goes on to tell Claire that she tried to let Claire into her life but she kept stabbing her in the back. She tells Claire she thanks God she gave her up as a baby. Michelle tells Claire to get out. Claire is shaken and wants to stay. Ross walks in and says discussing grand jury evidence is a felony and she should leave. She does. Michelle walks over to Danny, who holds her and rubs her back. Ross tells them not to expect anything good from the grand jury. Michelle tells Ross about Claire wanting custody. She asks him if they both go to prison, he has to make sure Claire doesn’t get their child. She suggests Meta, Rick or even Ray be guardian. Ross tells them not to give up hope right now. When the grand jury is finished, he will be in on the evidence and will destroy it piece by piece. He takes them out to Company to talk things over.

My Comments: I’m really not sure why they set up the grand jury like they did. While it might be a bit repetitive to have it for the trial so soon after, it would have to be better than just hearing people describe testimony after testimony. Claire is hard for me. I loved her so much when she was with Fletcher. She was just so great and they were a great couple. But after Fletcher broke Claire she just spun out of control and is now this. While Claire is I think trying to do what she thinks is best when she offers to take Robbie, I’m truly disappointed that she’s so willing to toss Danny overboard when truly it was Claire’s actions that caused this mess in the first place. She could have turned on Carmen and reported it or even killed Carmen herself and how much better would the world be if she had? So to push it off on being Danny’s fault they are in trouble is outrageous.
