Preview Danny’s Betrayal Rocks Michelle May 25 1999

April 27, 2017

Republished from “The Rustle of the Sheets”

Republisher’s Note: This is the full text of the article as it appeared on the website excluding photos. I have not yet double checked the text. I corrected a couple of obvious typos. I believe the editorial remarks are from the editor of the website, not the author. The website credits it to the May 25, 1999 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. As the note at the bottom says this only extremely loosely matches what happened on screen.

Find the episodes they describe.

Danny and Michelle coming out of shower soaking wet

“Danny’s Betrayal Rocks Michelle!” 5/25/99

Danny and Drew had hoped that they could keep Michelle from learning about their one-night stand. But after Carmen lets the truth slip this week, Michelle’s trust in Drew and Danny is shattered!

The In Depth Preview: As the week begins, Danny – in the presence of Carmen and Michelle – recalls the reason that he crashed his car: He was racing home after learning that Carmen had ordered Michelle’s death! Carmen denies the accusation, but a furious Danny informs his mother that he never wants to see her again. Carmen responds with her trump card: She reveals that Danny slept with Drew.

Michelle hardly can believe her ears. Danny insists that tryst was meaningless, but that does nothing to ease her pain. Later, Michelle heads to Millennium to drown her sorrows. Determined to explain himself, Danny tracks her down and drags her home. In the heat of the moment, Danny kisses her. Furious, Michelle claims that she no use for someone who murders for a living. As a result, Danny offers to walk away from her for good. But before Michelle replies, Danny gets word that an attempt has been made on his mother’s life!

Editor’s Note: Where they got their information, I have no clue. Michelle kissed Danny and she was furious, because Danny wouldn’t sleep with her. The “has no use for someone who murders for a living” is such a complete joke, I have no idea where that came from. Geez. Read the Soap Opera Digest Cover Story to find out what really happened if you missed those episodes. I only include this because it is an article on Manny – however incorrect it may be. Geesh!

Buy the April 6 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth

April 3, 2015

The April 6, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth (April 6th is the pull date so grab one off the shelf before that) has a feature article about soap operas that should come back. The feature Capitol (that was a family favorite so that my cousin named her son after Jordie Clegg – also the only reason I can tell between capitol/capital), As the World Turns, and Guiding Light.  But not only do they feature our favorite soap, but their two-page spread is very Manny/Bauer-centric. The article includes nice photos of Rick and Ed, plus my favorite Manny photo ever. Then a Reva one. So let’s support this shout out to Manny and Guiding Light by buying this issue.

Find one in grocery stores or your local magazine stand or bookstore until the 6th. Afterwards you can get it as a back issue. Find out more here:

Since he’s good now, new viewers often don’t realize Michael Baldwin on The Young and the Restless had a dark phase and older viewers often confuse stories and think thank Michael raped Christine Cricket Blair. Manny in May 21, 2012 issue of Soaps in Depth

May 13, 2012

CBS Soaps in Depth is celebrating its 15th Anniversary. As part of that, they’ve asked actors and actresses and former and current employees to share their best memories of the soap. All Manny fans should run right out and get the latest issue. It’s dated May 21, 2o12. Sadly it has Victor and Sharon from The Young and the Restless on the cover and who wants to see that? But what it has inside is a glorious photo and photo of a handwritten note of congratulations from Paul Anthony Stewart. The drawing he made on the note includes a tree with “D+M 4ever” carved in it. Enough to melt any Manny fans heart.  Also in this issue is an interview with Tammy Blanchard (Drew Jacobs) from the early Manny story. So run right out and get it today. I’m considering buying a second copy to frame.

Online Soap Fan

January 21, 2012

Every Friday I try to post a definition of a term of soap opera jargon. Find more on the Soap Opera Jargon page on this site.

Online Soap Fan aka Online Fan –  I didn’t realize this until the last few years, but there is a big division among soap opera fans. I’m not talking about over which show is the best or which pair should be together in a triangle or who is getting too much or too little screen time (although these are all other big points of division). The biggest divide in soap fandom is between on and off line fans. An offline fan can be just as big a fan as an online fan, but their experience and knowledge base is much different. An online fan still has all the resources and activities open to them as offline fans, but there is also so much more. Online fans soon discover groups of other people who are just as big of fans as they are. This can be on discussion boards, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Having a large group of friends to discuss your stories only increases your enjoyment of them. It also pulls you in deeper. Suddenly you find yourself writing detailed blog or discussion board posts, you may feel a need to make a video and you certainly feel the need to watch other people’s videos. Twitter and Facebook especially have created spaces where you can chat back and forth with a star. Tina Sloan and Michael O’Leary have both mailed me things, me personally. That never would have even been in the realm of possibility if I was still an offline fan. You also find out things a lot faster. I’m sure everyone in my online groups found out about the ATWT DVD set well before any of my offline fan friends did. I told most of my offline fan friends and relatives myself.  Also, I regularly chat with editors from CBS Soaps in Depth and the We Love Soaps site that wouldn’t have happened if I was offline and I learn a lot for the conversations and enjoy stretching my mind for other viewpoints.

Unfortunately on the other side, there is a lot of negativity in online soap fandom if you don’t watch yourself. Many discussion boards are avoided by sane people, as are some couple focused podcasts. There are people, supposedly mature people, who will go through YouTube searching for videos made in honor of a couple they don’t care for, just to vote dislike and make nasty comments. (If anyone has time enough to do this, please contact me, I’d be glad to come up with a list of far more useful endeavors.) Perceptions of online and offline fans can be very different and polls show these differences of opinion on characters, storylines, when and how soaps are watched, etc. However, I encourage offline people to test the waters of coming online. On Twitter especially I’ve found a group of people who I enjoy watching soaps with. I don’t have neighbors who watch soaps and I’m not usually home when they are on (although sometimes I am), but whether I’m actually watching live or not I always enjoy the show more when I can discuss it with fellow fans. I think Twitter has given us back talking soaps over the backfence and I for one am very grateful. I hesitated a long time before I signed up for Twitter and now I’m sorry that I hesitated. I’m especially sorry I that I missed the part that was Manny online fandom at its height, from what remains online it was a heck of a party. Learn from my mistake and join the current soap party.

UPDATED Nov. 6, 2015: I read through this and all I thought it needed was adding my signature block.

Robansuefarm is the handle of one of Manny and Guiding Light‘s biggest fans following in her family’s footsteps of Guiding Light fandom since 1939. This blog is an effort to make it easy to find Guiding Light and especially Manny online. Check back here for her blog, find fanfic previews and fake WSPR newscasts on her YouTube, find podcasts that look back to old shows and audios of her fanfics on Blog Talk Radio, and finally follow her on Twitter and Facebook.

Aug 1 2011 Soaps in Depth

For the second time this year, the wonderful people over at CBS Soaps in Depth, have featured Manny in an article. This time it’s “Here We Go Again” about repeated stories. (They say the Michelle going back to Danny was repeat, I say writers sending them back to mob instead of letting them move on was repeat.) There are FOUR –  count them FOUR –  Manny photos. Two are Stenz Manny and two are Stalban Manny important story points. So buy a copy, buy an extra copy and let them know that Manny coverage equals sales. So buy the August 1, 2011 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

OK there’s other good stuff in there too. Lots of As the World Turns stuff, Maura West stuff, Beth Chamberlain and of course, Villy. If you love any CBS Soap, buy it today! Tell them Manny is why https://twitter.com/soapsindepthcbs
