TV Shows Only in Soapdom Update 2017

August 9, 2017

Thanks to tips from several different readers we have fleshed out our list. Are we still missing any? Exact names preferred, but if you can describe which characters were on it on what show that helps too.

DAYTIME

All My Children

Erica Kane hosted the talk show Cutting Edge. Todd Martin also served as producer and host.

Kane was also former producer and host of Nothing But the Truth

Another World

Felicia Gallant hosted the talk show Jam Session (formerly Breakfast with Felicia)

As the World Turns

Kim Hughes hosted a local talk show for a long time called Patterns

Katie Peretti and Brad Snyder hosted the talk show Oakdale Now

WOAK local news hosted by Molly Conlin and Katie Peretti (at different times),  produced by Henry Coleman

The Bold and the Beautiful

Pam Douglas and Donna Logan Forrester hosted the Spencer Publications produced fashion show The Catwalk.

Days of Our Lives

Jack and Jennifer Deveraux hosted the talk show In the House from their house. Jennifer had previously been a TV reporter.

General Hospital

Christina Comes for Christmas was a classic Christmas movie like Miracle on 34th Street. It also appeared on One Life to Live, it was a Ron C creation. Black & white clips were filmed and shown on screen.

Guiding Light

Chelsea Reardon and Johnny Bauer hosted the talk show One on One

Nadine Cooper hosted The Love Bug

Reva Shayne Lewis hosted the talk show The Reva Lewis Show (She was eventually fired because the owners thought she was too old, setting off a drinking spree, Josh bought the station to get her show back, but she decided she didn’t want to do it anymore.) Previously Reva had occasionally covered local news stories as a reporter.

The Law a rip off of Cops focusing on local Springfield police.

WSPR local news – Dinah Marler was the station owner and frequent on air talent

One Life to Live

Access Llanview was a tabloid type show hosted by Wendy Williams  and later Carolina Bermudez

Dorian Lord hosted The View on Llanview.

Fraternity Row was a long time soap within a soap
https://glmanny.wordpress.com/2012/01/13/oltl-gives-meaning-of-soaps

Don’t have a confirmation of this title but You Never Know Tomorrow was a rival soap to Fraternity Row

The Daisy Awards were the equivalent of the Daytime Emmys:
http://www.welovesoaps.net/2009/07/classic-clip-daisy-awards-1989.html

Christina Comes for Christmas was a classic Christmas movie like Miracle on 34th Street, also appeared on General Hospital. Black & white clips were filmed and shown on screen. See General Hospital section.

The Young and the Restless

In 2007, Jill Abbott and Gloria Baldwin Fischer Abbott served as celebrity judges on the fashion contest reality show Extreme Catwalk. See a photo and read about it in the April 17, 2017 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

GC Buzz is a local gossip show. After he didn’t like the new story Devon Hamilton purchased the show and installed his wife Hillary as the new host in 2016. Hillary got the entire show/network? in 2017 and renamed the show The Hillary Hour. However, it’s very confusing what this show actually is because it’s watched online, on TVs, and sometimes they act like it “airs” at a specific time and other times it seems like they release episodes or even single stories whenever they feel like it. It’s very confusing.

PRIMETIME

Castle

Temptation Lane was a soap that Richard Castle’s mother appeared on years ago an on whose set Caskett solved a murder. Included in the “cast” was Rebecca Budig and Corbin Bernsen.

Love Boat

Carol Channing guested as a leading lady who had been on Mercy Hospital for 6 months.

Newhart

Vermont Today was Dick Louden (Bob Newhart)’s talk show.

Psych

During the second series Gus and Shawn solve a murder on the set of the telenovela Explosion Gigantesca de Romance. Shawn goes undercover joining the cast as “Chad” the delivery boy.

Twin Peaks

Invitation To Love was a soap opera the first season.

Can you think of any more TV only shows from Daytime or Primetime?

Couple Codes Update July 2017

July 27, 2017

Here’s my latest update on creating a list of couple code aka smoosh names aka the names people create for couples by combing their names. For example Manny is Michelle Bauer Santos and Danny Santos and Marony is Marah Lewis and Tony Santos. I’ve posted the list from other soaps before, but I’ve been trying to post quarterly updates to help get suggestions who I’ve missed. I’ve added more since last time, but please check for your favorites (or even the not so favorite couples you can remember). I’m a long way from having all of them for all soaps here. I think I have finally collected most of the Guiding Light couple codes, but I’m adding those below and am now branching out to collect other soaps. The shows and the names are listed in alphabetical order. All couples are eligible to be included if they are on a daytime soap opera and have a commonly used nickname or code.  I threw a few primetime ones on at the bottom too, just for fun. This list is by no means complete at this point, but I found with my work with the Guiding Light list that people tend to respond more after they see what you have.

I also have reserved a spot on the the list for anyone with a nickname that might be confused with a couple code. For example, on the Guiding Light list I’ve included Cleva for Clone Reva. So here are the couples whose name I’ve remember or had suggested to me so far. If you spot I’m missing one from any daytime soap, please let me know on Facebook, Twitter, in the comments below or by e-mailing me at Robansuefarm@hotmail.com

Odds and Ends 46

January 11, 2016

While looking for Guiding Light information, I sometimes find things that I think are of interest relating to other soaps. This collection of Odds and Ends related to various soaps that someone may want to know some time. Look for another odds and ends post soon.

Christmas greetings from the cast and crew of General Hospital.

We Love Soaps Year End Memoriam:
http://www.welovesoaps.net/2015/12/in-memoriam-2015.html

Check out a long profile in the March 23, 2015 issue of Soap Opera Digest about the uneven SORAS-ing of soap kids across the show. The profile features the SORASed kids of General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless.

Check out the photos from the gala that was held in honor of Days of Our Lives 50th Anniversary in the November 30, 2015 issue of Soap Opera Digest. There are all sorts of cast members past and present, many of whom were on other soaps as well.

In the spring 2016 “season” of Castle an episode is going to reunite the star of the show Nathan Fillion (who got his big start as Joey on One Life to Live) with several other former OLTLers. Look for Kassie DePalva (Blair), Tuc Watkins (David), and Darlene Vogel (Melanie). Read more about it in the November 30, 2015 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Thaao Penghlis (Tony/Andre on Days of Our Lives) has released a cookbook called Seducing Celebrities One Meal at a Time. It’s stories about famous people he has known and what he would cook for them if he could. Read more about it in the November 30, 2015 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

The 2015 The Bold and the Beautiful fan meet and greet was held on the actual sets this year which seems utterly amazing. See photos and read more in the October 5, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Tom Lind (Spencer Publication’s pilot Michael, The Bold and the Beautiful) is now recurring in the role. However, his first time on the soap was as the pilot that crashed Thomas and Brooke (Boinkberry story). That pilot died, but Lind returned. He’s quoted as saying “Um, I saw the episode that had a memorial for my character. Isn’t he dead? But someone at the show told me, ‘In soap operas twins aren’t uncommon.'” Read more in the November 2, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Nicolas Bechtel (Spencer Cassadine on General Hospital) is moonlight on American Crime Story: The People Vs. OJ Simpson and Stuck in the Middle. Read more in the October 5, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Ridge Forrester and Caroline Spencer II’s wedding on The Bold and the Beautiful aired Monday, September 14, 2015. Read all about it including photos and a full text of the vows in the November 16, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Camryn Grimes (Cassie Newman now Mariah on The Young and the Restless) made her first TV appearance on the military drama JAG.  Read about in the November 2, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. Her birthday is January 7.

See photos of behind the scenes (and on screen dresses) from General Hospital‘s 2015 Nurse’s Ball in the May 25, 2015 issue of May 25, 2015 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr/Kiki, GH) confirmed on Twitter that she and Chad Duell (Michael, GH) who were a long time real life couple have split. I’m sorry that they did, but kudos to them having been such a prominent social media couple letting fans know and not just leave them hanging.
http://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/real-life-gh-couple-splits

Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan Forrester et al on The Bold and the Beautiful) shares her behind the scenes memories of shooting her famous showstopper wedding gown on a boat in Portofino, Italy. Read all about it in the Nov. 2, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Read a feature on Ian Buchanan (Duke Lavery) on his dying AGAIN (3rd time’s the charm) on General Hospital. Read about it in the May 25, 2015 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

Rick Forrester and Maya Avant spent their honeymoon in Copenhagen, Denmark. The show slipped the filming in during an international publicity tour for the show. It was The Bold and the Beautiful‘s only big location shot in 2015. Read more about it and see a photo in the November 16, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Kate Linder (Esther Valentine on The Young and the Restless) hosted her 17th annual Afternoon Tea fundraiser in Vancouver, Canada. Read more and see a great roundup of photos in the Nov. 2, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Revisit the second The Bold and the Beautiful wedding of Katie Logan and Bill Spencer on Tuesday February 18, 2015 including a photo spread and vows in the April 6, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

In a marvelous idea The Bold and the Beautiful held a real life fan event that was a “wedding reception” on the day Caroline Spencer II and Ridge Forrester’s wedding aired. Find a photo round up in the Nov. 2, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Read a feature about Days of Our Lives and its 50th Anniversary in the November 16, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Actor John Colenback  has died. On As the World Turns Colenback played Dr. Dan Stewart, one of Ellen and David’s sons who fathered both Emily and Betsy through multiple affairs. A money dispute with the show caused TPTB to write off his entire family in 1979. Dan’s character was killed, but the characters of wife Susan and daughters Betsy and Emily later returned to the show for additional runs.

Brenda Epperson (Ashley Abbott #2) gives a where are they now catch up interview in the January 26, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Jen Lilley (Theresa Donovan) and Eric Martsolf (Brady Black) attended a fan event in their honor which was a real life version of the wedding reception their characters never had from Days of Our Lives. Read more and see photos in the January 26, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

A feature on Linsey Godfrey (Caroline Spencer II on The Bold and the Beautiful) tells all about her being struck by a car and learning to walk again. Read it in the June 1, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth. After a nasty automobile-pedestrian accident and months of recovery, Godfrey  has returned to the show. Read about it in the April 20, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Check out a behind the scenes tour of The Young and the Restless set led by Daniel Goddard (Cane) and Bryton James (Devon). Find the photos in the December 29, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

The June 1, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth shares a couple of photos from the aging spa storyline on As The World Turns in the “All-Star Scrapbook.” This was a great story because it took Lily’s duplicate Rose and gave her a completely different set of relationships than what Lily had and really defined Rose as her person. It was great. Also, it was a clever way to hide multiple actresses pregnancies at once.

Barry Livingston (Ernie the 4th son in My Three Sons aka their Cousin Oliver) made a guest star visit to The Young and the Restless Thurs., April 16, 2015 as a judge. He had previously appeared in two episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful as neighbors of Katie Logan’s around her first wedding to Bill Spencer. Read more about it in the April 20, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

Frank Runyeon (Steve Andropolis, part of the amazing Meg and Steve pairing on As the World Turns) is taking a two day tour as an angel on The Young and the Restless. See a photo and read more in the June 1, 2015 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.  (You may want to do a little Internet searching on Runyeon some odd things have gone on since he was last on a soap.)

Girl Meets World does an entire episode flashback to Boy Meets World. My only complaint is that they haven’t let Corey mature enough and really the original cast is still better, but still a great return of a classic series.

One Tree Hill went on location for Nathan’s first job. It was at a pretzel place called “Hot and Twisted” and the real life counterpart was “The Pretzel Maker” kiosk inside Independence Mall in Wilmington, North Carolina. Several other exterior sets were also from Wilmington.

Checking out the World TeeVee Facebook page I found these reports on people from As the World Turns:

  • Went to Paolo Sargent’s (Damien Gramaldi – Luke’s biological father) wonderful restaurant Pergoletta in LA, Los Feliz area. Wonderful home made pasta and got to chat with Paolo who has had an amazing life. If you are in the area, you should go. And save room for dessert!
  • Tom Wiggin (Kirk Anderson – a charming sometime villain) February 6 ·”Hey everybody…published my first novel. Fun story that takes place in NYC. If you love the Thin Man movies, you’ll love this story. If you don’t know the Thin Man, you’ll still love it. I’d appreciate it if you’d take a look and share this post. I’m tagging a few people in particular who I think would enjoy the read. Thanks! http://www.amazon.com/Clients-Wife-Emma-Charl…/…/ref=sr_1_1…

Couple Codes Update April 2015

April 22, 2015

Other Soaps Couple Codes Update November 2014

November 19, 2014

I’m continuing work on creating a list of couple code aka smoosh names aka the names people create for couples by combing their names. I’ve posted the list before, but I’ve been trying to post quarterly updates to help get suggestions who I’ve missed. I’ve added more since last time, but please check for your favorites (or even the not so favorite couples you can remember). I’m a long way from having all of them for all soaps here. I think I have finally collected most of the Guiding Light couple codes (click here) and am now branching out to collect other soaps.

Odds and Ends 35

April 16, 2014

While looking for Guiding Light information, I sometimes find things that I think are of interest relating to other soaps. This collection of Odds and Ends related to various soaps that someone may want to know some time. Look for another odds and ends post soon.

Matthew Smith ‏@kyleo71  recently tweeted that he has discovered Germany has a soap opera set in the world of figure skating. It’s called “Alles was zählt” (All That Matters).

Doug Davidson (Paul Williams on The Young and the Restless) recently tweeted out a photo of Paul and Lauren from when they were couple.

A great moments clip of Paul and Lauren.
@RealMissPiggy  Mar 21  of the Muppets tweeted “Kermiggy is honored to be on the cover of Vague as the #UniversesMostTalkedAboutCouple! (But who’s surprised?)” pic.twitter.com/EtiqYO51rW
@FredBC77  Mar 20 tweeted “First day on the set of Castle shared by Terri Edda… #BTS @Stana_Katic @NathanFillion @tamalajones #socute “pic.twitter.com/GdG2zd8q7f

Soap Opera Darling Real Life Couple  Arianne Zucker (Nicole Walker) and husband Kyle Lowder (ex-Brady Black, DAYS; ex-Rick Forrester, B&B) have sadly announced their divorce. They had previously separated and then reunited and have a child.

As the World Turns couple Jon Lindstrom (Craig Montgomery) and Cady McClain (Roseanna Cabot) made it official in real life on Feb. 14, 2014. See more in the March 24, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.
Jasam – Jason Morgan and Sam McCall of General Hospital were the only soap opera couple who achieved enough write in votes to be included in People’s Choice Poll about most romantic TV couples of all time. Considering a couple on a niche, cult show, The Vampire Diaries, Klaus and Caroline one wonders on the accuracy but cheers to the GH fans who got Jasam included. Read more in the March 24, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.
According to the March 24, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth, Kari (Katie Logan and Ridge Forrester) bonded over “Love’s Philosophy” by Percy Bysshe Shelley.

The January 27, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest had an answer to an “Ask Us” question about Jill Foster Fenimore on The Young and the Restless. I’m bulleting their answer below, but find the whole answer with more details in Soap Opera Digest. The ones that are still held legal marked with an *.
  • 1975 – Brock Reynolds (Kay’s son) – remained unconsummated and ultimately annulled
  • 1975 – Phillip Chancellor II (deathbed ceremony) – Kay got their divorce reversed after his death and nullified the union
  • 1978 – *Stuart Brooks (her mother’s then boyfriend) – Ended in divorce in a few months
  • 1978 – Derek Thurston (then Kay’s widower) – Nullified when Kay returned from the dead
  • 1982 – *John Abbott – Divorced in 1985
  • 1990 – Rex Sterling (divorced from Kay) – Nullified when proved Kay hadn’t signed the papers, the woman who stole her life had
  • 1993 – *John Abbott – Divorced 1996
  • 2003 – Colin Atkinson – Nullified, already married to someone else and married under false circumstances
  • 2014 – *Colin Atkinson – Blackmailed into it, but so far not challenged legally

The Young and the Restless posted a video of the three of the actors involved watching the fashion show that aired this week.
