Guiding Light Cast Roundup 81

May 24, 2018

This is the eighty-first in an irregular feature where we will report updates on what cast members of Guiding Light are doing now. I’m playing catch up on some soap magazine news. So as a reminder you can buy back issues:

Bethany Joy Lenz (our dearly beloved Michelle Bauer Santos #4) guest starred on Grey’s Anatomy. The episode is called “1-800-799-7233.” It’s the winter premiere of the second half of the season (Season 14, Episode 9) and originally aired January 18, 2018. Her character’s name is Jenny. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt7043736/

Morgan Englund (Dylan Lewis, Billy and Reva’s son who ended up with Bridget) is the subject of a where are they now feature in the July 3, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest. After GL, Englund wanted to go into music, but he was a single father so he decided he needed something more regular. Following in Dylan’s shoes he became a first responder and then part of the fire department. Then in 2017 he decided to try to get into music again. About his connections to the Guiding Light cast he says “I just talked to Melissa Hayden [Bridget Reardon Lewis] yesterday because she’s hopefully going to be involved in some way with the video. We connect every couple of years and want to do something together. And every time I see Kim [Zimmer, Reva Shayne Lewis], we’re right back to where we were before, so there’s a lot of love there. I loved working with her and Jordan [Clarke, Billy Lewis]. Maureen Garrett [Holly Reade] and I also exchanged messages recently….GL didn’t hire just any people; [they cast] mostly theater actors, like [the late] Michael Zaslow [Roger Thorpe]. They were amazing actors to work with. I feel very fortunate.”

In the May 14, 2018 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth Sharon Newman’s Crimson Lights gets a shout out because – unlike Company in the last couple of years – people actually pay for what they eat. Go Sharon!

Joseph Campanella (a criminal named Joe Turino) died May 16, 2018. Campanella was an incredibly busy actor appearing on many shows on daytime, primetime, film, and the stage over the decades until his retirement in 2009. Guiding Light was his second regular series role and we was on between 1959-1960. I have to idea who this character was. I’m glad we got the name, but if anyone has more details, please share.

Brian Mertes, who was my director on Guiding Light, taught me that I can justify absolutely anything as an actor. He wouldn’t let the stay in the no and he taught me to just go for it. He’d say, “We have to do this. So why would your character do it? I’m not the actor who would say, “That doesn’t make sense to me,” or put in changes or complaints, ever, because I sill justify anything you hand to me.” Read about it in the February 26, 2018 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

A spooky story round up in the October 30, 2017 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth includes the end of the Cleva (Reva’s clone) story complete with photo. It also has photos of David Kimball (Killer carved in his forehead) from The Young and the Restless and from As the World Turns the James-Barbara-Gunnar time travel story and Shannon O’Hara return from the dead despite her shrunken head storylines.

In the July 24, 2017 issue of Soap Opera Digest has a close up photo of Vincent Irizarry (Lujack/Nick McHenry) in his disguise he wore for the end of his role on Deimos Kiriakis on Days of Our Lives. Ellen Parker who played Maureen Reardon Bauer #2 announced she was in the independent film called Ties to Rachel that was then seeking a distributor in the May 27, 1997 issue of Soap Opera Weekly.

During the heighth of the Annie-Reva feud around when Annie faked Reva pushing her down the stairs, Suzanne Schwarzer (GL’s then costume designer) found a company called Annie Reva (in a total coincidence). She bought several of their pieces for the cast. Read more about it Soap Opera Weekly issue May 13, 1997. The article also spells out the complicated shooting of the actual fall. It mentions stunt woman Janet Paparazzo, director Bruce Barry, and stunt coordinator Peter Hock. It also looks as if Reva could actually be charged (it hasn’t happened, but hypothetically it could).

The May 27, 1997 issue of Soap Opera Weekly did a Where Are They Now? feature on Val Dufour. He left acting right after he left his role of attorney John Wyatt on Search for Tomorrow in 1980. He gave this great quote. “But the real challenge is the development of the characters and the day to day movability of it, because the writers change. I once told Mary Stuart (the last Meta Bauer on Guiding Light) that we should have been given an award for rewriting.”

Bauer BBQ 2017 by Robansuefarm Part 3

July 7, 2017

Author’s Note: We continue with the Bauer BBQ. There are more people around than I’ve specifically named. Fell free to mentally insert any favorite I’ve skipped. Feel free to write in what your fav is doing.

Bauer BBQ 2017 by Robansuefarm Part 3

Scene 12

Back in the kitchen, a commotion sounded at the door. Rusty Shayne and Wanda Hite arrived bearing the necessities for Oklahoma BBQ. Rusty had made the trip up from his ranch near Tulsa. He barely got his load down on the kitchen table before Mindy threw her arms around his neck.

“Melinda Sue,” he said happily. “Are you doing as well as you look?”

“As fine as an Oklahoma sunrise. How are you doing?”

“Oklahoma is still less fun without you, but the ranch is doing fine.”

Rick came in a pulled a grimace. Most of Mindy’s ex-es he didn’t much mind. In fact his best friend Phillip was one of them, but Rusty was the one whose relationship went back with Mindy longer than Rick’s. They had grown up together as kids. It was her one relationship that he felt might be as strong as theirs. Rusty and Mindy had grown up together as kids. Rick was happier when he stayed down in Oklahoma where he belonged.

Rick swallowed and walked over with his hand extended. “Rusty,” he said. “Thanks for bringing the Oklahoma BBQ. I know it makes Mindy happy and people have come to expect it now.”

“Don’t mind me and Earl. We make no never mind.”

Mindy jumped in. “Wanda, now you know we see you and Earl a lot more often than we do Rusty.”

Wanda helped balance her load on the back of a chair as she paused. “Where do you want us to set up?”

Billy came in. “Rusty, what are you doing by letting Wanda stand there with a heavy load. I’ll take that.”

During this exchange and the ribbing, a woman with long, black hair pulled into a tight bun. She was dressed too formally for the party in a black suit. She quietly worked her way behind the happy group and edged into a dark corner of the patio.

Scene 12B

The Indian motorcycle continue to drive south. He passed a green highway sign saying, “Springfield 172 miles.” He gunned it around a black suburban and hurried on.

Scene 13

Beth and Phillip had the art auction entries each set up on their own easel along the edge of the patio. Each had a number that matched a description in the glossy printed guide.

Clarissa Marler and Maureen Reardon had the children’s art station all set up. They grabbed kids who arrived early and set them to work on the mural.

Mindy had come out to make sure her fashion drawing she’d donated for the auction looked right, but she had been caught by the sight of the kids playing. It yanked at her heart reminding her of the baby she’d lost and the children she and Rick never had.

Rick had caught Mindy’s expression across the patio and came up behind her. “It looks like they could use some help. Why don’t you dig in there?”

“You think so?”

“I know so. No one spreads sunshine like you do.”

Looking cheered up, Mindy dived into the kids. She started helping a girl make a dog she was painting look a little less like park bench.

The woman with the tight bun had reached the artwork going straight to the painting from the Spaulding attic. She looked the painting over very carefully. She moved back into the shadows and pulled out her cell phone. She pressed a saved number. “It’s definitely THE painting…..No, not yet. I will try to get it before the auction starts. She abruptly ended the call.

Scene 14

Molly Spaulding came rushing into the Bauer kitchen nearly running into Blake and then Buzz in the process. Her dad, Alan-Michael Spaulding, was hot on her heels. “God Dad, stop hovering. I go to college for heaven’s sake. I don’t need you looking over my shoulder all the time.”

“Princess, will you wait up. I wasn’t hovering I was….”

Both continued through the kitchen and out the back door to the patio.

Lucy came in a troubled expression on her face. Frank intercepted her with a hug. “What’s going on, Sis?”

Waving towards the door, “You heard. Molly thinks Alan-Michael has been overly protective and it’s smothering. You know he always was protective, but lately…”

“Did something happen?”

“Well, he went to visit Hope earlier this month…I’m afraid she’s not doing well. Alan-Michael can’t do anything to help her so he’s determined to keep up safe. He knows I can take care of myself, but he’s even been a bit hover-y with me and he’s way overboard with Molly. Then there was her boyfriend.”

“What about him?”

“Tom got a little aggressive with her, enough so she filed a police report.”

“Oh, what did you say his last name is? Does he go to Springfield U with Molly?”

“Yes, he goes to Springfield U, but don’t worry about putting the fear of God into him. Besides making it clear that him that putting hands on a woman like that was NOT acceptable, he also specifically made him aware at the might the Spauldings could bring down on his head. After Brent, Alan-Michael isn’t taking any chances.”

“None of us do,” Frank said pulling Lucy in for a big brotherly hug. He silently gave a prayer of Thanksgiving that it had turned out as well as it had. “I’m glad he’s watching out for both of you.”

“He’s watching over us all right, but it’s driving Molly nuts. When I was her age I was conning people out of jobs and almost ready to decide who I was going to marry. He’s got to give her some space before she does something crazy to assert her independence, and if there’s one thing Alan-Michael and I know about acting out and doing extreme things to get our way….I hope Molly can avoid learning about it.”

Lucy bit her lip and looked out the door in the direction that Alan-Michael and Molly had gone.

Scene 15

Bridget hurried through the Bauer living room towards the front door. Lillian and Buzz were sitting on the couch talking. “Is she here yet? Kat just texted she was almost here.”

Bridget through open the door and there stood Kat looking stark and formal. Bridget paused, and then both women broke into laughter as they hugged each other. Bridget wrapped her arm around Kat’s shoulders. “You’re looking great, Kat. It’s been way too long. What’s it been since we saw each other? Oh, at least a year since you came to visit us in Oakdale.”

“It’s been even longer since I’ve been back to Springfield.” Kat looked back at the open door. “Paul, Hamp, get in here.” Kat shared an exasperated look with her best friend. “You keep thinking it will get easier as they get older — it doesn’t.”

“Tell me about it. Peter’s out of college now and I still worry about him….and he still doesn’t pick up after himself.”

Both women were laughing together when Paul and Hamp walked in, Hamp pulling the door shut behind them.

Hamp looked rebellious. “I still don’t see why we had to come here to celebrate the fourth. The guys and I had pitched in on some fireworks and now I’m going to miss them setting them off.”

Kat walked over to Hamp. “Because the Bauer BBQ is the best time to visit Springfield. It’s the one time when the whole town is together and I want you to meet some of your Grandpa Hamp’s friends. You never got to meet him and I want them to help you get an idea of what he was like. I want you to see his club. Plus this is where I finished growing up. You’ll just have to put up with it. Besides here’s Bridget. You like Bridget don’t you?”

“Ya, Bridget is fun.”

“Thanks…I think.”

“Plus your Uncle Billy is here. He was Grandpa Hamp’s best friends. He can tell you about when they played football together.”

Paul broke in with a smile. “Billy’s here? Where?”

Bridget answered, “Right before you got here he was out watching them set up the grill. I’ll walk you back there….Oh before we do that I want you to meet Lillian and Buzz. Kat, you remember them.”

“Of course…. Boys, Buzz here makes the best non-Bauer burger in town. When I was your age, I used to hang out at his restaurant, the Fifth Street diner, all the time. And this is Lillian she’s the best nurse anywhere.”

Buzz shrugged one shoulder, “Not the greatest….”

Lillian interrupted. “That’s nice of you to say, Sweetie.”

“These are my boys Paul and Hamp.”

Lillian added, “Oh, I see their resemblance to Hamp. Now I think Bridget told me that you were married to Paul Frasier’s son. Ed Bauer has told all about your grandfather. He was one of Ed’s mentors and a great surgeon before he got promoted to administration, but you want to talk about Hamp. Have fun today.”

New Years 1990

January 1, 2016

Warning the sound on this is clear but VERY low. Crank your speakers all the way up.

Capture1

This year the place to celebrate New Years is Lakeland Country Club. Sadly I don’t have a lot of this, but I’ll look for more and in the meantime enjoy this clip.

Alexandra and Roger are still together. Roger is cheating with Mindy, but Alex doesn’t know. I always thought Alex being THIS concerned with Mindy rang false, but it of course was part of the build up to make the betrayal worse.

Alan-Micheal found out that Blake had lied and she wasn’t really pregnant which was the main reason he had married her when he did. He still feels rather protective to Blake and that’s why he offers to be the one to leave his family home.

Holly is mad at Alex because Alex had a plan to use Holly to check Roger’s fidelity. I can’t remember why he didn’t. I’m not sure if this was before Roger’s love turned to resentment for being constantly emasculated or if Roger was already with Mindy or if he knew it was a trap. Anyone else remember? Ross broke up with Holly when he found out. Wow! Blake sure looks awful. The turban doesn’t really suit Holly either.

Christmas 1995 Updated 2014

December 24, 2014

I had previously done 1995, but I only had the actual Christmas day episode and the quality of clips weren’t as good as these. Find that post here:

1995 – Memories of Christmas Past – A clip show of highlights Christmas and not
https://glmanny.wordpress.com/2010/12/26/memories-of-christmas-past-1995

However, Bandstand Mike’s channel is offering better quality clips and a few extra days, so here we go again. Bauer Living Room Xmas 1995

The highlight of Christmas 1995 was that the episode that actually aired on Christmas day was really a clips show with just a little new story thrown in. This is probably the most complete Christmas I have, but I hope that I can change that. Keep checking back for both new years and updates.

The first story we run into is Holly and Fletcher. During Christmas 1994, Alex had set up Roger so Holly thought he had been lying to her and cheating (for probably the first time in his life Roger was doing neither and was truly heart and soul committed to her). Holly dumped him that day and Roger failed to win her back and she is now married to Fletcher and they have just discovered they are pregnant and their baby has Downs Syndrome, the future Meg Reade. Holly, of course, still has a connection to Roger, but has convinced herself how evil he is. Fletcher, Holly, and Holly’s mother Barbara (the same actress from the 1970s) are back in town struggling over what to do about it.

Hart Jesup is back in town. He left town in a bad place. He was the unknowing father of Peter Jesup whose identity has now been established and whose custody is being shared between his biological mother Bridget Reardon and his sort of adopted mom Vanessa Chamberlain. Now Hart is taking an interest in Peter and David Grant, who has been hoping his good friendship with Bridget might turn into more, isn’t too happy about it. Hart also has a score to settle with his father and has decided that Roger’s hot young wife Dinah is the best tool in his kit. Roger doesn’t care beans about Dinah, but he’s talked her into handing over her inheritance. Usually streetwise Dinah feels so rebellious and blown away by Roger’s attention that she’s not thinking.

Rick Bauer hadn’t made it back to Springfield for Christmas last year still being in Chicago. While in Chicago he’d married fellow addict, enabler, and nurse Annie Dutton, not told his family about it, and divorced her again. When she wanted to leave Chicago, he got her a job at Springfield. Ever since he came back he wanted Annie back, but she was already moving on with Josh Lewis when he came back to Springfield. He’s still mopping about her. In the meantime, he’d fought Eve’s final illness and her stubbornness and lost to both. Rick had also taken over as head of the trauma unit and met Abigail Blume when he helicoptered in to save a local injured farmer. He and Reva were both instrumental in getting Abby to stay and learn how to communicate with others. Abby has been nursing a crush on Rick, but he hasn’t figured this out or that he has feelings for her in return yet. Under the mistletoe is Rabby’s first kiss. Abby’s mother Charlotte leaves her in the care of the Bauers early in this run of episodes.

Annie and Josh were about to be married and go live in the Land of Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams. Alan had been encouraging Reva to let well enough alone and leave Springfield with him. After a series of near misses with various people, Alex found out for sure that she was alive and interrupted Josh and Annie’s wedding to tell him. He found her and Alan drinking champagne on his private jet and has reacted badly. Annie who had already fought off Ghost Reva, barely, did not take this new challenge well. The kids, especially Marah, are also really upset by Reva’s return.

Meanwhile Alan-Michael and Lucy Cooper are in the middle of the Brent Lawrence/Marian Crane storyline. Marian is determined to make Lucy pay for “leading him on and then crying rape.” Really he did rape her. Brent had already been discovered by Nadine who he killed and dropped into the lake without letting her family know. That she was missing hasn’t been discovered for months because she was just getting ready to leave town on an open-ended trip. Her body has not been recovered or identified, but both those things will be happening soon. The Spauldings as a whole seem to be moving towards peace, except Alan is beyond furious at Alex and Alan-Michael is getting fed up with dealing with his family.

Santa Nick, who we first met in New York City with the Four Musketeers and seems to be the real Santa, has stopped by to throw a little magic to Alan-Michael and Lucy and to Nick McHenry and Susan. Susan is in the hospital because Brent attacked her thinking she was Lucy.

Wednesday, December 20, 1995

We start off with a missing Holly who is hanging out at a Christmas tree lot (that actually looks like a Christmas tree lot – unlike some in later years) after her Dr. Sedwick appointment when she discovers Meg has Downs Syndrome. See that touch between Roger and Holly, that’s what I mean when I talk about Rolly. Meanwhile back at the Reardon Boarding House, Bridget comes in upset. Vanessa takes Peter Jessup (whose custody is split between Vanessa and Bridget) to do something Christmasy. Good news, Hart is back in town, bad news he’s the kind of player scummy Hart.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hemamJXjR4M (Part 1)

Warning: A shot of the Twin Towers appears as part of the channel ad at the beginning of this one. Holly’s mother (played by the same person) is back. Fletcher seems to realize that Holly’s turning away from him now shows how weak a couple they are. Roger really does care for Holly and the baby. I’m sorry they didn’t leave both of them around (the real one). The Meg-Roger outcasts relationship would have been a great one to play. Back at the Bauers they are decorating the tree with the heirloom ornaments. Rick you had a near miss with Annie who turns crazy over Jeva, reach for the best thing that has ever happened to you instead. Abby’s right there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psFqVythjuU (Part 2)

Annie jumps from Rick’s dreams to showing up with presents, this is pre-crazy Annie when she was great. Frustrated that Annie is still with Josh, Rick doesn’t watch what he’s doing and breaks Maureen’s favorite Xmas ornament. Over at the Land of Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams, an angry and confused Marah is punishing her doll. Josh comes in and tries to help her feel better. An almost naked Dinah continues her confrontation with Hart. Holly confides in Roger who thinks this means she’ll have an abortion.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onyCwmt3Zb0 (Part 3)

Abigail’s mother Charlotte Blume decides it’s safe to leave Abby with the Bauers and decides she needs to return home to Goshen for Christmas. Ed promises to keep Abby safe. While wrapping presents, Michelle announces she’s gotten an invitation to attend a party at the University Campus. Dinah tells Hart that she just signed her money over to Roger in a joint account. Roger argues a case for why Holly should abort the baby. (Not sure if he’s serious or pushing her to the other direction.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOBa_GOTFmk (Part 4)

Rick and Annie run into each other again. Rick reaches out to Annie and she reacts badly. Josh tries to help Marah through her reaction that Reva hid the fact that she was alive. Holly and Fletcher tell Roger to mind his own business about the baby. Holly about Roger: “Nobody makes me as mad as he does.” (Yes, because you still twistedly love him Holly and heck, he’s better longterm than Fletcher. Fletcher doesn’t do long term.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPooifRc49U (Part 5)

Holly and Fletcher discuss their options about the baby. The future Dart spar and even crackle with the creepy Hart. Michelle and Ed argue about whether she needs to be at the Bauer Christmas. (Michelle is being a brat.) Ed apparently not sure how Amish work with phones. Charlotte leaves Abby and goes home via cab. Ed to Abby: “We have to go. I’ve got your little black hat here.” Michelle continues to be a brat. Bill commiserates with her while she insists she wants to go to this party to “hang” even though she doesn’t want to drink (the main activity there) or know a single sole. (Also, they apparently don’t know that the majority of college kids aren’t at college on Christmas day. – I live in a college town, I know these things.) Marah tells Josh what she remembers about Reva. Annie comes in at end of conversation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCekdd0WG0Y (Part 6)

Marah wants Josh to take her to Reva Shayne Lewis Park. Fletcher and Holly talk about whether to have child. Fletcher wants to get more information, but says it’s Holly’s decision to make. Hart tells Roger he’s planning on staying in Springfield.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hg5FN37pgcQ (Part 7)

Dinah doesn’t tell Roger that Hart saw her naked, but does try to warn Roger ,Hart isn’t being genuine. He doesn’t believe her and asks for a truce. Fletcher and Barbara (Holly’s mother) talk about what happened. Barbara goes to find Holly. Abby’s ASL class preforms “Silent Night” with Abby and Rick. Josh, Annie, and Marah end up in Reva Shayne Lewis Park. Marah scratches up the way too cheap plaque Josh had put on the storm (seriously if it was that bendy it wouldn’t have lasted this long.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1LLRuS41gc (Part 8)

Thursday, December 21, 1995

Marian Crane (Brent Lawrence in disguise) arrives at the Spaulding Christmas office party just as Alan-Michael is giving out the gifts. Marian corners Lucy and asks her about Susan (Nick McHenry’s AIDs positive girlfriend) who Marian had attacked mistakenly thinking she was Lucy. They don’t know this and Susan is in the hospital from the attack. Alex has brought a Christmas tree into the hospital for Nick and Susan. Annie attends an AA meetings. Nice set with the 10 steps. Alan and Reva arrive at the Reva Shayne Park. Alan and Reva are currently together. Alan wants to marry her, Reva was willing when she thought it would protect her kids, now she’s seen Josh, she’s less willing. Josh runs into them buying a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A4DmGHeRCQ (Part 9)

Reva looks great! Josh and Reva argue about when she can’t see Marah and Shayne. Susan opens her eyes, but doesn’t respond. Nick and Alex decorate the tree in Susan’s room and Nick bought Susan an engagement ring. Marian gives Lucy a gift and insists she open it. It’s tickets to a retreat Marian wants them to go to together.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlDjotVUUf8 (Part 10)

Amanda shows up at Spaulding party. She didn’t find out until this morning and Alan-Michael apologizes for not telling her himself, he assumed she knew. A-M confirms Amanda is welcome and offers her a real job at the company with responsibilities (which she didn’t have under the old regime). Lucy looks great in that outfit. Marian tries to explain her odd behavior on the rape she told Lucy she suffered.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlDjotVUUf8 (Part 11)

Annie finally opens up about her difficulties at the AA meeting. Reva begs Josh to let her see the kids. Josh actually is making a good point about Reva, at this point, is all about herself and not the kids, although she had made a sacrifice for them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpPzEh-BxCs (Part 12)

Reva reacts to Marah scratching the stone. Reva takes it out on Alan which is unfair. He might have unduly influenced her to leave town, but he truly does care about her. Alan-Micheal starts handing out the company executive awards. Marian wins the best dressed award (which she actually deserves, she puts together nice professional looking outfits with style) and that makes everyone look for her and they discover her with Lucy. I understand why Marian might ignore the chanting, but why doesn’t Lucy hear it? So they only have 2 awards? Funniest and Best Dressed? They should have made up a couple more. Marian is giving LAM the most predatory look. In Susan’s hospital room, Alex urges her to wake up to see the ring. Nick talks to Susan and Santa Nick arrives.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxuWiLt-v00 (Part 13)

CBS Daytime Holiday Ad. Nick meets Santa Nick in Susan’s hospital room. At the Spaulding party, A-M announces Amanda’s new job while Marian sets up funniest guy for a fall.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgZ6FpjJNrI (Part 14)

Santa Nick talks about Lujack with Nick. Lucy takes Marian home. Alan shows up at the company party. Alex takes pleasure in telling A-M that Alan’s friend was Reva. Reva breaks into the Land of Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams and we get a good look around.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fif8YSKPcss (Part 15)

Marah discovers Reva in the house. A-M is mad that Alan didn’t let him talk to Reva directly about what she knew about the man who switched Lucy’s AIDS test to positive. Why they are arguing Santa Nick arrives to warn A-M that Lucy is in danger.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwEqj2i5hL8 (Part 16)

Friday, December 22, 1995

Alan prevents A-M from leaving until A-M accepts his reason. Marah confronts Reva. Marah: “It was better when you were dead.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCzhswIIcX4 (Part 17)

This Marah always had the most gorgeous French braids. Reva doesn’t make much distance in trying to convince Marah to give her a chance. Really nice shot through multiple sets making it look like a real building. Marian makes Lucy uncomfortable with a predatory look.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK_rQ3uMUNc (Part 18)

Fletcher arranges to talk with a family who kept a child with Downs Syndrome. After Marian collapses, Lucy comforts her and Marian starts to tell Lucy the truth, but A-M arrives. Alan is furious Alex foiled his plan by telling Josh Reva was alive and where to find her. Alex claims it’s for Alan’s own good, Alan thinks it’s to prevent him being happy. Alan: “I don’t use the word forever often, but when I do I mean it. I’m done with you forever.” Marah points out that Reva was trying to leave when they found her. Annie and Josh come home.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJSJRJVIvFw (Part 19)

Reva seems surprised at Marah’s bad reaction. Josh is being harsh, but he has a point. Josh: “You have to go at their [the kids’s] pace, NOT yours.” Amanda and Alan used to be close this stuff is not true, after the psychotic locked in the attic part. However, this is the Amanda attitude during this actress’ run. Holly and Fletcher talk to mother of Downs Syndrome daughter. Their daughter Samantha comes in and Fletcher is WAY over familiar and assumes the drawing a child he never laid eyes on before made was for him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we6FEH6XRz4 (Part 20)

Alex unloaded on Nick and Susan and Nick calls her on it. Amanda and Alan have an honest, caring conversation. Alan: “This is the way I was brought up. It’s what I was taught to value.” Some very true words from Alan showing self-awareness for once. Lucy, A-M, and Marian discuss the fundraising ball to benefit Cedars they are having New Year’s Eve. Brent reasserts himself.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMKA8-ANsLo (Part 21)

Josh takes out his frustration on the Christmas tree. When Marah says something about it, Josh calms down and talks to Marah, but makes promises he can’t keep. Holly wrongly berates where she was in her life last year (actually I think she was in a better place mentally, but others may disagree). Holly and Fletcher start their final decision about whether or not to carry Meg to term.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9t-SrYpBVHI (Part 22)

Shayne is having a great Christmas and Annie and Josh are trying as they decorate the tree, but Marah is miserable. A-M and Lucy still are shaken, but stop by Cedars to bring some cheer to Nick and Susan. A-M and Nick discuss their visits from Santa Nick. Santa Nick shows up and winks at the camera.

Thanksgiving 1991

November 28, 2014

The clips we have for this year focus on Alexandra Spaulding. I hope eventually to find more.

They say: “Alex spends Thanksgiving visiting Lujack’s grave and getting into verbal throw downs with pretty much everyone she encounters.”

In general Springfield was in pretty good shape in 1991, but these clips are following Alexandra who isn’t. Alex’s long lost and fairly recently reunited son was killed in an explosion back in 1985. After Mindy approached Lujack’s look alike and brought him back to Springfield. Alexandra was convinced he was her son, but having had a great relationship with his now dead parents, refused to even consider the possibility. Alex is also really hurting her nephew Alan-Michael because being estranged from his parents, Alan-Michael had seen Alex as a substitute parent. Now Alex has lost almost all interest in Alan-Micheal becoming obsessed with Nick McHenry instead. Ultimately Alex will be proven right that Nick is her child and they will develop a closer relationship although his adoptive parents remain a point of contention. Alex will also continue to strongly favor Nick over Alan-Michael until he leaves town with Lucy. Alexandra has also caused conflict with longtime friend Vanessa by continuing to attack her step-daughter Mindy and with long time paramour Fletcher who she dumped for Roger Thorpe and then as he says kept expecting him to come running when she called. Fletcher was running the Towers Restaurant. You know, I honestly don’t think Alex ever figured out just what happened during her marriage to Roger and WHY he did what he did. I’ve included both parts as they were uploaded, but hopefully they fell on different days because otherwise Thanksgiving fell on December 2nd in Springfield that year.

Alexandra has given Vera the day off and she and Alan-Michael have gone over the Bauer House for Thanksgiving. They brought pumpkin pie. Alexandra isn’t too happy that Blake (Ed’s step-daughter) is there too. Lillian arrives, looking gorgeous, and Lillian and Alexandra share a moment over  the anniversary of Lujack’s death. Phillip and Beth had been forced to move to Arizona as part of a plea deal with a newborn Baby Lizzie. They called both Lillian and Alexandra and all three talked to them over the phone (off screen). Alexandra talks about Nick with Lillian.

 (Part 1)

Nick finds Alex at Lujack’s grave in the Spaulding Mausoleum (which tends to move around over the years). Vanessa confronts Alexandra over her mistreatment of Mindy who she wants revenge against since she had an affair with Alexandra’s then husband Roger Thorpe. Fletcher normally gives you one mistake and out, but he actually allowed Alex a couple of them. This is about the second, but he’s not going to comfort her this time. A further run in with Roger drives Alexandra back to the Spaulding Mausoleum where she finds Nick and Mindy.
