Guiding Light Celebrates Kwanzaa With the Speakes Family

Around this time of year you mostly hear about three big holidays, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa was a holiday created to help celebrate African-American culture (although some other countries in the western hemisphere have picked it up). This year is the 50th Anniversary of when it was created. It apparently isn’t as popular as it used to be, but it is still celebrated.

Back in 1994, one of the best years for showing diverse holiday traditions – which is saying a lot because Guiding Light was one of the best shows daytime or primetime to retain ethnic traditions within their on screen community including religion – Hampton Speakes led a celebration that firmly brought Kwanzaa in the Springfield holiday tradition.

Robansuefarm is the handle of one of Manny and Guiding Light‘s biggest fans following in her family’s footsteps of Guiding Light fandom since 1939. This blog is an effort to make it easy to find Guiding Light and especially Manny online. Check back here for her blog, find fanfic previews and fake WSPR newscasts on her YouTube, find podcasts that look back to old shows and audios of her fanfics on Blog Talk Radio, and finally follow her on Twitter and Facebook.
