Odds and Ends Musical

I’ve been collecting musical references for awhile for soaps other than Guiding Light. I think I’ve got enough to make it worth sharing. I’ll start on a follow up.

On the July 13, 2011 episode of The Bold and the Beautiful Stephanie Forrester sang “You Always Hurt the One You Love” to Brooke Logan as an apology for pressuring and bribing Thomas into lying that he and Brooke had held sex while under the influence of the Boink Berries. Read about it in the Oct. 10, 2011 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

On the July 22, 2013 episode of The Bold and the Beautiful, there was a montage of Hope and Liam after their engagement. The song is “Wildfire” is by Bianca Moon and it is available for sale on iTunes, according to Sept. 9, 2013 issue of CBS soaps in Depth.

When Rick Forrester saw Maya for the first time at Dayzee’s Coffee Shop she was singing a song Karla Mosley wrote herself called “Time Travel” according to the June 17, 2013 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

When Wyatt Fuller and Hope Forrester made love for the first time in 2014 it was to the song “Melting” by Emily Jaye available at http://www.emilyjaye.com according to the March 24, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

AJ Quartermine went to heaven in the April 1, 2014 episode of General Hospital to the song “The Lovely Years” preformed by Fisher according to the May 12, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest.

During April 2014 Maya and Carter on The Bold and the Beautiful had a steam room tryst to “Morning, Noon, and Night” by soul singer Ryan Shaw. According to the April 21, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth, you can find it on the singer’s Real Love album or buy it on iTunes.

The 2014 special wedding collector’s issue gave this list of wedding songs for couples:

  • John Black when he thought he was Roman Brady and Marlena, Days of Our Lives, “Up Where We Belong” sung by Marlena’s friend, Tamara Price (Marilyn McCoo) – 1986

  • Danny Romalotti and Christine Blair, The Young and the Restless, “Starting Here, Starting Now” sung by the groom’s sister Gina Roma (Patty Weaver) – 1990
  • Karen and Jagger, General Hospital, “Weak for Love,” “I Wish It Would Rain,” and “Woman To Man” all sung by Daniel Lavoie – 1994
  • Thorne Forrester and Macy Alexander, The Bold and the Beautiful, “Always” by Atlantic Star – 1995

In the A. J. Gundell book Love is in the Air it lists the specially written, dates are as given in the book:

  • Eleni Andros and Alan-Michael Spaulding, Guiding Light, “I Knew That I’d Fall”  – 1992
  • Sam and Amanda, Another World, “Fool’s Gold” – 1993
  • “Together” – A song he originally wrote for his family, but reworked for the happy Jeva family montage in Florida right before Reva drove off the bridge.
  • “Threshold of My Heart” – Written for Eleni Andros and Frank Cooper theme. First used when they returned home having discovered Marina was Frank’s. 100s of people contacted him wanting to use it for their wedding. – 1993
  • “Honestly (I Do)” – Written for Johnny Bauer and Chelsea Reardon to sing as a duet at Rick Bauer and Meredith Reade’s wedding. Gundell ended up using in his own real life wedding also.- 1988
  • “You Make Loving You Feel So Right” – Emmy Award Nominee, 1990 – Originally written for Texas and then used on As The World Turns by a character named Heather. Gundell had given Kim Zimmer a tape of his songs for her to consider for her cabaret act. She was really taken by his recording of “You Make Loving You Feel So Right” and took it to Pam Long who wrote the romantic field romp when Jeva chose the field they have their wedding in at Cross Creek.
  • “One Too Many Tears” – Written for Chelsea Reardon when she was at the end of her emotional rope when she decided it was over with Phillip Spaulding. – 1993
  • “This is Love” – Written for Mindy Lewis and Kurt Corday’s wedding. Another one that he got long term interest in from people wanting to use it at their own wedding. – 1985
  • “Fool’s Gold” Sam and Amanda’s theme from Another World, Emmy Award Winner, 1993.
  • “You’re a Star”, Beau and Pam’s theme from As the World Turns, 1987.

Steve Burton (Dylan on The Young and the Restless) wrote a song with Jonathan Jackson (Lucky on General Hospital). The song is “You Killed Romeo” and was featured on the Sept. 23, 2013 episode of The Young and the Restless. It’s available on iTunes. The song playing on The Bold and the Beautiful when Hope Forrester received a text message from Liam Spencer saying ‘Never Mind’ after he changed his mind about accusing Wyatt Foster of stealing the Hope for the Future Diamond was “What You Feel” by Chris Levy according to the April 7, 2014 issue of CBS Soaps in Depth.

The song Casey Moss (JJ Deveraux) played on the guitar at Will Horton and Sonny Kirkaris’s wedding in early 2014 was “The River is Wide” according to the June 9, 2014 issue of Soap Opera Digest.
