Often Guiding Light would try out an actor in a small part and then bringing him or her back in a larger part some time later. I’m going to start a few posts showing clips of these actors before and after. My third entry is about Robert Bogue, better known to Guiding Light fans as the second A.C. Mallet.

Back in 1999 an unnamed San Cristobelian cop harasses Danny and Michelle over bearer bonds (which I still don’t understand why they are illegal in the first place). Bogue didn’t attempt to affect the semi-English accent that had been established as the San Cristobel norm, but they still liked him enough to bring him back, but it took awhile.
Harlet had been a true supercouple during their first run on the show, but Harley had returned alone because of mostly off camera reasons Mark Derwin didn’t return as Mallet. By 2005, Harley was part of the GusH supercouple with Gus Aitoro. Harley was convicted for murdering Phillip (he wasn’t dead and Alan actually was the one who shot him – again) and found Mallet was the warden of the prison as the show toyed with reuniting Harlet. Ultimately they didn’t. In 2008, Mallet was fighting his attraction for goddaughter Marina.

P.S. Mallet & Harley (Mark Derwin and Beth Ehlers) are way more popular than any of the Fake Mallets’ pairings. The proof is in the *pudding. I’m just saying.

Robert Bogue brought more layers to the role of A.C. Mallet than his predecessor (Derwin) and was a huge hit with Gina Tognoni.
This true supercouple, Mallet and Dinah, not only made the top 50 supercouples in the SID list, but were very popular in the last four years of GL’s existence and also were reunited in the finale and together, finally, at last, in Europe. Malah fans partied all over and still speak with much love for this couple. Malah Forever!
