Often Guiding Light would try out an actor in a small part and then bringing him or her back in a larger part some time later. I’m going to start a few posts showing clips of these actors before and after. First up is the man who played Mick Santos. He was played by Juan Carlos Hernandez. However, Hernandez actually never worked with any other member of the Santos family (not even to fake a family photo). Although Hernandez has kept working steadily, it’s not enough so there are a lot of images of him out there on the web.

A few months later, he returned as Mick, clearly a very different role. In this clip, Drew and Mick argue, but continue to work together.

I am curious who you have on your list and how you define this as there are some people who have been on GL in smaller roles and then come back years later and it was unrelated. Like for example Fiona Hutchison was on GL for a short time when Quint and Nola were together, and then was Jenna in the 90s.

I didn’t know that about Fiona. I’ll have to look for a clip. That’s exactly the type of thing I mean. In addition to “Mick”, I have drafts started for “Salerno” (who was the prison guard Abby took on), “Mallet” (who was a cop in San Cristobel), and “Shayne” (who was a cop who gives Michelle a hard time when she’s up for Ben Warren’s murder). Now I’ll have to add one for Fiona. Thanks!

Some other potentials (for small role to bigger role)
Cynthia Watros was an unnamed hook up of Matt Reardon’s less than a year before she started as Annie Dutton.
Wasn’t the actor who played Shayne (Jeff Branson) also one of the flashback guys during the Maryanne story? I thought he was Alan…
I think this is a fun project. PS I have some soap opera books, that you don’t mention I can look through and post a list for the GL related ones in the entry you have when I get a chance.
